    The stone vessel

Somedays ago my wife and I walked on the old towpath along the river Somme in Amiens ( Picardy , north of France ) . We needed this walk to appease some worries caused by a sad event in our big family .

Suddenly after a meander of the river we saw the high Gothic cathedral rising up in the mist far over the houses . It reflected in the water giving the same image but inverse looking like a 700 years old stone vessel built by faith .

This almost mystical image gave peace to my tormented soul .

  • Your words are very inspirational and the picture is very soothing to the soul.
I hope the worries are soon in the past for you and your family.

  • God is good to give us restful places here to soothe our tired souls. Thank you for sharing your grief AND your place of peace! May God heal the wounds of hurt and loss.

  • I hope this was a positive sign for your wonderful family.

  • I wish peace to your souls, my friend. May god give you all that you need. Nice landscapes, good comments, and whatever you need. Have a great day, michel. And hug to your wife

  • ah, a peaceful setting

  • Another beautiful photograph, Michel.  Much ~ I hope everything is all right.

  • That is a beautiful picture!  I will be praying that you and your family get through this hard time.

  • lovely hope all works out happily for you all

  • What a beautiful way to deal with grief.  How fitting that the Church steeple was there when you needed it.

  • I hope everything is going better for you and your family today. A walk does seem to help get us through some of the bad times. That is a beautiful picture of the Gothic cathedral and the mist makes it appear almost surrealistic.{{{{hugs}}}}

  • Yes I agree with Mels a very soothing photo. I have vistied that Catherial when we went to Amiens a few years . I hope all is well with your family

  • That is a very beautiful picture and I pray all is well with your family

  • What a spectacular view, water helps me heal, too.  I hope and pray for all to be well with your family. (I hope I wrote that correctly!)

  • Sorry to hear you have a worry. Hope you can continue to get comfort from that photo. Knowing our creator is concerned about us is truly a comfort. Take care.

  • Paix à toi et aux tiens, Michel.

    Bises, Lise

  • It brings much sadness to my heart to hear that your family has suffered something to bring torment to your soul.  I pray God will give you comfort and great peace.

I found great rest for my soul in the churches that are very old.  In Denmark I sat in the small church my family worshipped in for many generations.  It was orginally built in the eleventh century.  I felt as if all of their prayers surrounded me.

    In friendship,

    Carol

  • Ahhhh...... It's reflection in the water verify's that it in fact exists.  Wonderful picture.

  • ...Michel, so sorry for the sadness that darkened you and your family. Immediately upon seeing the photo, your postcard was brought to mind. Ah, the cathedral rising high above all else sends it message to you. Beautiful photo. Love, MuSe

  • I pray your worries will soon fade away. Such a beautiful picture.

  • I am glad that you and your wife help to ease each other's burdens.  That is special; family, faith, a good wife-- you are truly blessed!

Beau!

  • This image is lovely Michel. I'm glad it gave you peace.

It's always been the beauty of nature or water that is the well-spring of hope and peace for me. A raggedy looking orchid plant right now sitting on my window sill has fifty white blooms the size of silver dollars. It's incredible, When things like this happen I always think it's God's way of telling me to hang in there.

  • That is a beautiful picture.... I hope that all is well with you and your family and send warm wishes your way.

  • based on what I've read, your soul is all but tormented

  • Glad the rustique image of the cathedral and the river brought some rest in your heart. The image is wonderful

  • C'est tres jolie.  You're in my prayers...

  • Très beau, Michel.

  • Beautiful Picture!

  • michel,

  • You have someone to walk with and beautiful place to walk when your soul is tormented. I hope things are better.

  • What a beautiful peaceful and inspiring picture and writing.  I wish you peace and love and the calming of the worries and troubles.  May God take the troubles away and put them far out of the mind.  Have a great day and a wonderful tomorrow! ! !   I thank you for your kind and wonderful comments and your thoughts of me.  Much love and hugs to you all! ! !

  • I'm sorry that you are having such an unhappy time but you will feel better in time I know this to be true. Time doesn't heal, nothing can but in time the hurt is less. My prayers are with you

  • Of course, the bigger the family, the more likely a sad event now and then. And so a big family is a blessing, but the sad moments arrive more often. Hoping that the rest of the family can gather around and heal the hurt.

  • I'm sorry to read about you and your family going through a sad event, and I can see why you chose to walk along that old towpath. What a beautiful and peaceful setting.

  • Merci pour cette photo géniale!

Avez-vous jamais entendu "La Cathédrale Engloutie" de Claude Debussy?  C'est magnifique.

J'ai mes reservations pour Paris!  Je quitte les E-U le 14 janvier!

  • You and you're family are in my prayers..

    my deepest sympathys

  • I m very Sorry about the sad happening in your family.

The picture of the Church gives in a very good way the contrast with the heaviness of the stone building and the lightness and the fluidity of his reflection in the river.

To look at great buildings, mostly churches ,has the power to calm the spirit, the language of stones brings back the relativity of time.

When I was in Strasbourg I used to go to the look at the Cathedral and just have a chat with the building.(there was not yet the chat room in internet hehe).

    Bien à toi , Michel.

    Carlo

  • Beautiful Michel. Gives peace to any soul that looks at it I think.

  • I'm glad you were able to find that peaceful place to help with the pain. I wish you and your family peace.

    Ben's in Saudi Arabia now.

  • wow! it's soooo beautiful fauquet! i can see why  it made you feel that way!!!!

  • The faith of the ages can help our souls as the faith resides in hidden corners and pops out at times needed

  • I hope the worries are beginning to disappear.  Family life is full of challenges isn't it?  I seem to go up and then down again.  Best wishes.  Tom

  • Beautiful picture!!  Problems with the family can hurt the deepest- wishing you and family comfort.

  • that was beautiful to look at and to read.

  • Tres bien. Very nice!

  • What a wonderful photograph!  Built on faith, indeed!  France has a wonderful history!

  • mmmmm... "old stone vessel built by faith"  I think that is very symbolic... but to go into a full length opinion now would just be the caffeine talking.  I hope that your troubles pass, and may they make the good things sweeter.

    ~andro

  • I'm so sorry to hear that there are disturbing things in your life.

I hope things get settled soon.

Nature and the beauties like this can give rest..... the balance you talked about some days ago....

Have a good weekend, and enjoy the work you have sone in your garden. Oh how wonderful the pictures will be next spring!!!

  • RELECTIONS... life is made up of reflections. We are all reflections of our past. We can often find peace and love there. @-}-}--  Karolyn

  • I hope that you are feeling more at peace with the world now. Christmas Fayres are really only money making things, there are craft stalls, raffles and tombolas+ Father Christmas and of course refreshments. We use the money for parish events like days out for the " oldies " the Mass for the sick and the sweets we give the children at Christmas and Easter. We have special things in church during Nov. a bbok of Remembrance and the pious list is put up in the porch

  • like a apperition from the past...

    outstanding work.

  • Michel - I am praying for peace to your family and comfort to you.  May God's Grace sustain you and May His right Hand enfold you, May you know that you stand upon solid ground, in the Shadow of no less than the Almighty Rock.  The photo is lovely, and brought tears to my eyes.

  • Michel and Janine... I am hoping that the torment has already eased for you and your family and wishing you the love and strength to carry the burden you speak of.

This ghostly image is outstanding--I'm surprised and somehow pleased that you can find comfort in the simple beauty which surrounds us.

    With much love,
    Linda

  • I sincerely hope you are feeling better now.  The soul needs nourishment at all times and I am sure that your walks are a good way of feeding it.  Tom

  • I  FOUND PEACE TO MICHEL , I KNOW MANY MUST HAVE PRAYED FOR ME . THANK YOU FOR YOUR VISIT. LOVE FANCY

  • Walking in a peaceful place always helps me.  I can see the vessel in the water as a boat built by faith...one that travels the river and never wears away.

Thank you for your encouragement in your comments on my site, Michel.  I always look forward to your visit.

    Lisa
