  •   Châteaux en Picardie

Castles in Picardy . (English version between the pictures )

Picardy is a region of the northen France . The capital is Amiens .

Recently a Xangan asked me if there were many castles in Picardy . There are a lot in spite of many of them have been destroyed in the past . There are huge castles such the ones of Chantilly , Compiègne , Pierrefonds in southern Picardy . I will speak of them another time . Let me rather speak of these more modest castles that one finds in the small villages of Picardy .

On the Sunday of the last father Day we went to visit my wife Janine ' s father in the small town of RUE ( 3000 inhabitants ) situated in the north of Picardy . This is a middle Age town with an old belfrey . And , there , I thought of the queston about the castles and we pictured two castles situated in two tiny villages at the side of Rue : Régnières - Ecluses ( 122 inhabitants ) and Arry ( 164 inhabitants ) .

When I were young in 1957 and I was going to meet my fiancee ( Janine ) at her parents ' home in Rue , I always passed in front of these two castles . Their sight pleased me . For many reasons . They had part in the charm . And later being married we went along this same road yet from Arras with the children until 1986 , when we moved in Amiens .Most of these castles are surrounded with trees and it is not easy to see them from the road . We have to enter the property when it is allowed . They are discret but always very beautiful with the well definite style of their time . Most of these castles always are lived in ..

And to complete the variety of the styles remember the Rambures Middle Age  fortified castle that I have posted last year . Rambures is a village located in the Western Picardy where 365 inhabitants are living in .

  • Joe et les 3 petits cochons

Joe and the 3 little pigs .

On the last Sunday of May there was around the town hall of Amiens an exhibition of farm animals and natural agrucultural produce such jam , jelly , honey …bread . Amiens is the capitale of the Picardy , an area of the north of France . This is an important agricultural region .

We had at home at this time , Sarah that anyone knows and her little brother Joe . I drove them to the exhibition .. I thought it was good the children living in a town know the biological reality .

It was a frank success . Joe was fascinated with the little pigs . I didn' t succeed to get him off his amazement . It ' s true this little pigs were wonderfully pink and looked at him with a mischievous  eye !

A l ' enclos à moutons c ' était pire encore .

At the sheeps " paddock " it was worse yet ! He wanted absolutly to touch the sheep and I believe strongly he would be entered the enclosure !

But nothing to do , what most passionates him is getting in the Grandma ' s car and holding the wheel ! Already addicted by the car ! The education is not simple nowadays !!

  • Petit jardinage .

    Small gardening .

During her recent stay at our home in Amiens our granddaughter Sarah wanted strongly to help her grand father at the gardening such digging out the bulbs of tulips , planting dahlias , weeding and so on …On the picture you see her taking the compost off the wheelbarrow with her naked hands to fill a bowl where impatientes will be planted . Grand Pa is happy and tells himself " we always need a smaller than us " ( french saying )

Afterwards Granpa has said  : " After the effort the comfort comes " ( other french saying ) .

  • La pensée

    The pansy

Yesterday I walked in my garden and stopped in front the pansies . I don' t know why I love these simple flowers . They always seem like a face which looks at you and tells you " think of me " . The picture shows one of these pansies that make me dream . This flower has been named pensée ( = thought in English ) in France in 1460 because it was hold as a symbol of the remembrance . A short while ago one slips easily a pansy into a letter to express to the recipient how much tenderly one tought of her . It is moving to find again some old letters containing a dried panssy having been crossing the time .

It is strange to notice in English this flower is called pansy , a name near of pensée . However pansy does not suggest to think of someone . The word pansy is totaly different from think, thought , remind or remember . I wonder where the word pansy come from in English . Would it be derived from the French ? It is not impossible .
