  • Un village vosgien en France .

A village in the Vosges  ( Eastern France )

A day during our vacation we went for a walk to a village no far from the  place where we were staying , to St Jean d ' Ormont . This village keep many of traditionnal features .

Here is a part of the village . Note that the houses are huddled together but they are large .The children are playing in the steet . The village is surrounded by meadows ,woods and mounts .

This other house pleased us especially . We liked the sculptures at the top of the door made in the pink sandstone ( typical rock of the region ) . And we see also the fountain . The water comes directly from the well and it is good to drink for the thirsty walker .

The church is at the top of the village . Its clock tower is bearing a bulb . And its  is surrounded by the cemetery yet  as in the past time . This is become unfrequent in France .

And at the end of our visit we went down to the large pond crossed by a stream . We tasted the freshness and the calm , the loving games of the dragonflies , the jumps of the truts and the flight of the herons . Our sight was wandering far towards the Mount Ormont . We think of to share this visit with you .

  • Retour de vacances

Coming back from holidays  ( english version after the picture )

    Le moulin    The mill

Yes the last week we had excellent time in vacation . We stayed in a old mill renoved situated in a " hole " of the mountain Vosges , in the village called Ban de Sapt near the town of St Dié . The mill and 3 others houses formed a hamlet of the village . There were several flats in the mill and the owners were also stimulating people . So we fraternized quickly with the others and the ambiance was funny . We did some walks and excursions , these last principally in Alsace for the wine . I will relate more later when the photos will be developed . This one on this blog is picked from the advertising folder .

But coming back home in Amiens I heard cries in the vegetable garden . Onions , shallots , potatoes were shouting :" Michel come here , we need of you " . So since our coming back I am in the garden . Now the main is almost made but tomorow I have to plant 600 leeks yet .And these darn hedges to clip . But , at last , I can say hello to my friends of Xanga .

Dear friends , This morning we are going on holidays for a week in the Vosges ( eastern France mountains ) for a week . I will think of you . See you soon .

  • Que gardes - tu encore , vieux fort ?

What do you guard yet , old fort ?English version after the picture

This fort is located at the estuary of the river Slack in a small village called Ambleteuse no far from my birthplace between Boulogne and Calais in France in front of England ( Kent ) . It has been built by Vauban a famous engineer of the French King Louis XIV , the Sun King . in about 1680

For centuries there was there a well known harbour owned by the comte of Boulogne and also during a time by the Englishes ( Henry VIII for instance ) .

Louis XIV improved the harbour for his war vessels having from 30 to 40 guns . And the fort had to protect against who ?…the English sailors , of course !!! Then Napoleon enlarged the port to put a fleet of 320 vessels ( 1805 ) . At this time it was in his mind to envade…. England !!!  What a weird  idea !

The fort saw all of these warrior activities . Nowadays the harbour has completely disappeared filled by the sand . Only the fort remains . . It is the witness of a long history . How many boats , sailors , soldiers , horse men , workers , enginers , kings and emperor did it see ? It has resisted to the sand , the sea , the age and also the war II bombing ( the German atlantic wall was there ) .

I like this fort alone near the shore but surrounded by the sea at the rising tide . It is standing proud but peaceful ,so loaded of history .

What do you guard yet old Fort ? The remembrance of the past .
