  • Un village vosgien en France .

A village in the Vosges  ( Eastern France )

A day during our vacation we went for a walk to a village no far from the  place where we were staying , to St Jean d ' Ormont . This village keep many of traditionnal features .

The village of Saint Jean d ' Ormont in the mountains Vosges                          Photo : Michel Fauquet 2003

Here is a part of the village . Note that the houses are huddled together but they are large .The children are playing in the steet . The village is surrounded by meadows ,woods and mounts .

Une vieille maison vosgienne                                  An old vosgian House                      photo : Michel Fauquet 2003

Here is an old vosgian house and its barn at the side opening with a wide arched door . This type of house is characteristic of the province Lorraine . We are on the Lorraine side of the Mountains Vosges

Another house of the village        Une autre maison du village              photo Michell Fauquet 2003

This other house pleased us especially . We liked the sculptures at the top of the door made in the pink sandstone ( typical rock of the region ) . And we see also the fountain . The water comes directly from the well and it is good to drink for the thirsty walker .

L ' église et le cimetière                  The church and the cemetery        photo: Michel Fauquet 2003

The church is at the top of the village . Its clock tower is bearing a bulb . And its  is surrounded by the cemetery yet  as in the past time . This is become unfrequent in France .

And at the end of our visit we went down to the large pond crossed by a stream . We tasted the freshness and the calm , the loving games of the dragonflies , the jumps of the truts and the flight of the herons . Our sight was wandering far towards the Mount Ormont . We think of to share this visit with you .

  • What a beautiful old village, it looks so peaceful there, thank you Michel for taking me there. The pond with the mountain in the background could very easily be found here in Maine, so I can feel the spirit of it.

  • What a lovely place to thrive! It is as though traveling back in time! Very peaceful!

  • I want to live in the   An old vosgian House  Please!!

  • So beautiful!! Make me calm and peaceful, which I'm usually not..

  • I don't have to visit France.  I feel like I have already been there with a good friend.  Thank you.   Guy

  • I'm so happy that you had a wonderful time on vacation! Those pictures are absolutely beautiful and only make me want to visit France even more.
    Welcome back :)
    Much love,
    ~Savannah~

  • The mountain reminds me of the mountains we have here in North Carolina..simply beautiful

  • This looks so absolutely beautiful.

  • my dream place to live would be

    1. an exotic island

    2. this town you visited! a villa for my entire family, grand-parents, great-grandparents, everyone.

    BEAUTIFUL!

  • How incredibly beautiful!!  I'm sighing at the pictures, wishing that I could experience something like that first-hand.  I can really appreciate beautiful photos but each place has its own feeling, smell, vibration, doesn't it??

Thank you for your encouragement on my site...I am indeed feeling so much better!!

    Hugs,

    Lisa

  • Michael,

Thanks to your excellent photographs and good descriptions, I feel that I have just had a very short, but enjoyable, vacation in France.  How refreshed you must feel from enjoying such beautiful sights.

    Your friend, Carol

  • Ah once again Michel you have favored us with the wonders of France. Beautiful old friend.

  • what a lovely place :)

    i would love to visit!!

  • I did not know that place like this still are as they are ....Beautiful. Looks like a painting!!!  @-}-}-

You know how tho enjoy life!  @-}-}--

  • Lovely photos!  The church reminds me of ones in the Franche-Comté, with a bulbous or helmet-shaped roof.  I have not seen one where the clock is in the roof, however.  One must walk through the cemetery to enter the church?

The pond looks very similar to a lake that we visited near Samoens.  It is in a reserve for butterflies and beavers.  Surrounded by mountains, also.  And quite peaceful and calm, like yours!

  • How absolutely beautiful this village is Michel . Thanks so very much for sharing this with us! .

  • So beautiful, Michel! So beautiful! Glad you are back!

    and {{{hugs}}}

  • those pictures are so nice!  the village looks so lovely!     i wish there were places like that nearby where i live!   :)

  • What charming cottages and scenery I would love to live in an house like those, I think they are more interersting with odd corners, than todays modern constructions. Poor Michel ,you are a busy man. I hope you Children and Grandchildren remember all you do for them when they get older, because mine certainly have bad memories, much to their parents disgust. Love Marjie

    Love Angela

  • sigh. that is so beautiful. dragonflies..they're beautiful insects, don't u agree? kind of random, but butterflies in captivity are the most beautiful of any butterfly i had ever seen. i wonder if there are green or blue butterflies there.

  • I just finished reading all your entries of the past month and enjoyed everyone of them. Sorry that I have not been around to comment, but sometimes things happen that is beyond our control..

Happy that you had such a nice vacation. What a beautiful country that you live in.

    Love,

    Edie Rose

  • Sounds like a lovely trip!  I love seeing your photographs of the villages and surrounds; we have nothing like that here...but then we have different things which are also interesting and beautiful.

And yes, I did meet Heather for the first time in London a few months ago.  It was wonderful to see her again so soon.

  • amazing!

some of this architecture style got carried to India too..when the french ruled...

  • What a lovely place.  I love the architecture.

  • Wow. What timeless beauty in these pictures.

  • oh, i LOVE the pictures!

  • Thanks for sharing your pictures and giving me these lovely views of France. Your country is really beautiful!

  • I love the old vosgian house. Absolutely beautiful!

  • These photos bring back wonderful memories of our own holiday in Alsace several years ago when we stayed near Wissembourg. We visited Strasbourg ... the fabulous Schlumpf Brothers car museum at Mulhouse .... the gorgeous mountain lakeside town of Gerardmer ... Haut Koenigsbourg castle .... oh, and the Route des Vins Alsaciennes

It is a truly wonderful region for a holiday and it is obvious that you had a great time! But welcome back to Xanga

  • seeing the picture of that lake/pond makes me want to get out and go fishing

  • The village is just what I think of as typically French, it is really lovely. The church seems very unusual, more Russian some how. We had a cemetery at our church which was closed some years ago and now it has been made into a garden. Marie

  • Very beautiful. Looks like a wonderful place to visit.

  • What a beautiful visit you had.  Wonderful photography.  True art you have made.  I feel that I can smell the air and taste the texture.  Thank you

  • ...beautiful and enchanting, Michel. You took wonderful photos - vibrant and alive. Love seeing the villagers and cars and such, makes the place real. So hopeful knowing such villages still exist. The house with the pink sandstone fresco is my favorite also. How do they manage the headstones so close together? Hugs, MuSe

  • You are very kind my friend. Your photos are very beautiful. You have a good eye for photography.

  • You're an artist with a camera. Those houses would be beautiful in watercolor paintings.
    I love the window boxes.

  • Nice to see that there are still nices places to go .

And you were lucky to find sunny days too.

    Ciao

    Carlo

  • Very interesting photographs Michel.  It is good to see a village in close up like that and to see the localy styles of architecture.  I am already planning my next trip to France.  My friend Colin and I are visiting Brittany this time and will be sailing to Caen in October.  Tom

  • J' adore votre Xanga! =P I like it because other than the wonderful photos, you write in both English and French! I'm learning French now, so I think it's really good for reading~!!=)

Keep it up... I will certainly visit your site very often! =)

  • With Yakatori, if I am going to serve a white wine with the meal, I use that wine in the cooking. Typical wines that I use are Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Pouilly Fuisse, or Wan Fu, which is a wine meant to be served with oriental food. If you want to cook with white wine but serve red for drinking, Bordeaux would be good, or I am partial to Cabernet. Bon Appetite!

  • Lovely Michel - I'm enjoying your vacation!

  • Michel, thank you for sharing the beautiful photos with us! I enjoyed them so very much..

  • My French is a little rough, but I've always understood everything you have said. Please, continue to write to me in French, because I'm very drawn to the French language and it always brightens my day :)
    France is definitely breathtaking.
    Much love,
    ~Savannah~

  • Thanks for your very nice compliment on my photos Michel . You know....the photographer at our wedding was a Frenchman! You can see him in our photo with the dark jacket on talking with two of our guests on the right of the picture .

  • I agree with you Michel, Love does pull us through.  Your photographs are very special.  I love them.  Great photo taking.  Thanks for visiting ......

  • Michel! Feel free to correct me anytime :)   hehe!  Les photos sont merveilleuses!  Quand je suis triste et stresse, tes photos me plait et me fait sourire.  Merci pour ca.

    Passez un bon weekend!

About the yellow flowers, July 21st: You are correct, they are California Poppies (Eschscholzia californica)

  • Welcome home and thank you for the lovely pictures Michel.  I love seeing the sites others see when they vacation by looking at the pictures they take on the trip.

I will have more cottage pictures when I retrieve them on Monday.  My digital camera is not functioning so I am still having the film processed at a store.  I will have granddaughter birthday pics too! (it is very nice to be here with the little ones for their special days).

    See you again soon...

                  Hugs,

                   Deb

  • The countryside looks a bit like the wilds of Tennesse but we have a tendency to commercialize everything in the USA..(too bad for us) I love the old world charm. It's like traveling back in time. How wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing your photographs with us all.

    Love,

    Brenda

  • I've always said that France is a beautiful country and your photographs prove it.  What wonderful architecture!  I always wonder if the people who live there truly appreciate its beauty as much as someone visiting there for the first time.  Thank you for taking me along on this tour!  Cheers, Neil

  • I always like visiting your site to learn more about France!

  • Beautiful photos Michel. We hope to go on vacation next week...

    a bientot
