  • Petit jardinage .

    Small gardening .

During her recent stay at our home in Amiens our granddaughter Sarah wanted strongly to help her grand father at the gardening such digging out the bulbs of tulips , planting dahlias , weeding and so on …On the picture you see her taking the compost off the wheelbarrow with her naked hands to fill a bowl where impatientes will be planted . Grand Pa is happy and tells himself " we always need a smaller than us " ( french saying )

Afterwards Granpa has said  : " After the effort the comfort comes " ( other french saying ) .

  • What a great way to spend the day - working with the earth and then enjoying the beauty it brings!!

  • I like the French sayings.  What a great way to spend the day.

I bet, thanks to grandfather, that your Sarah will turn out to love gardening. I started real young and still love to get my hands in that soil.  Wish I had a little helper like you do though. It would make it much more enjoyable.  Have a great week!!!

    Love,

    Edie Rose

  • What a good helper!!  She is so darling, you must be very proud and for her to share in your love of gardening, a chip off the old block...(an American saying).  I agree, she will probably love to garden and her memories of gardening with Grandpa will stay with her the rest of her life, cherished memories!!

  • "après l'effort, le réconfort"

  • Nice picture of you and Janine I hope I have got her name right, also your little grandaughter. Thanks for your comments to me. It must be hard for you to put it in French and English. It is a pity we can't hear our voices to one another as we read the posts .I love the French accent and can't stand the gutteral German one. I still speak with a london Accent but not Cockney but definitely not queenly. Cheers and good luck with all that gardening.Marjie

  • i shall adopt that saying as my own. thank you! your grandaughter is precious.

  • Thanks for giving us a peek into your wonderful life! I hope everyday for you is just as awesome!

  • Brave petite Sarah.

  • You have reason to be proud, I think she did a wonderful job!

  • You are at the stage in your life where you have the time to spend doing lovely things with your grandchildren, and enjoy the company of the woman you love. What a great treasure that is! Your back yard is enchanting...

  • Ah. A day well spent! It seems only moments ago when my daughters were such little ones!

  • Awww - what a cute little helper you have there! I think it is wonderful when children want to help their elders as they leran by doing.

I really like the "After the effort the comfort comes" French saying. You should do a blog about French sayings or customs sometime! I would love ot know more!

    Take care my friend!

  • I've just realised that I didn't  "Michel " properly the other day - I worked hard cleaning and weeding but the wine was missing. I 'll remember next time that to do the job the French way wine is essential, then I can truly say I've " Micheled " Marie

  • In years to come your grandaughter will have many happy memories of her grandfather and treasure the moments they shared. How precious. I never knew my grandfathers - both died before I was born - and I an slightly envious of people who have the privilege of knowing their grandfathers The impatiens will be so colourful in that planter

  • If only it weren't raining so much here, I'd spend more time outside.

  • Hehehe you are getting to know me. You wrote a lovely comment on my blog and then reckoned I would probably misinterpret it and clarified it.  Thank you, you are very sweet-natured and generous
