Castles in Picardy . (English version between the pictures )
The town of RUE , Middle Age town with the old belfrey and the the chapel of the ancient hospice ©photo taken by Michel Fauquet 2002Picardy is a region of the northen France . The capital is Amiens .
Recently a Xangan asked me if there were many castles in Picardy . There are a lot in spite of many of them have been destroyed in the past . There are huge castles such the ones of Chantilly , Compiègne , Pierrefonds in southern Picardy . I will speak of them another time . Let me rather speak of these more modest castles that one finds in the small villages of Picardy .
On the Sunday of the last father Day we went to visit my wife Janine ' s father in the small town of RUE ( 3000 inhabitants ) situated in the north of Picardy . This is a middle Age town with an old belfrey . And , there , I thought of the queston about the castles and we pictured two castles situated in two tiny villages at the side of Rue : Régnières - Ecluses ( 122 inhabitants ) and Arry ( 164 inhabitants ) .
Regnières - Ecluse Castle XVIth century . Renaissance style . A wing of the castle is hiden by a huge tree .Picture taken from the road © photo taken by Michel Fauquet 2003When I were young in 1957 and I was going to meet my fiancee ( Janine ) at her parents ' home in Rue , I always passed in front of these two castles . Their sight pleased me . For many reasons . They had part in the charm . And later being married we went along this same road yet from Arras with the children until 1986 , when we moved in Amiens .Most of these castles are surrounded with trees and it is not easy to see them from the road . We have to enter the property when it is allowed . They are discret but always very beautiful with the well definite style of their time . Most of these castles always are lived in ..
Arry castle . XVIII th century . Bricks and white stones . Wonderful roof .
And to complete the variety of the styles remember the Rambures Middle Age fortified castle that I have posted last year . Rambures is a village located in the Western Picardy where 365 inhabitants are living in .

La beauté magique de votre pays me laisse(me quitte) toujours sentant un peu dans la crainte. Merci pour nous le partager.
Votre ami, Cat
Quelles beautés grandioses en la doulce France !
Merci's Michel
Oh my, these castles are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I am thankful that fellow xangaroo asked you about them.
Wow. I really should visit France someday. It's so beautiful there with all the castles and gardens. It reminds me of a fairy tale.
ah, merci Michel!
Kelly

Michel, We have castles in Illinois too. They're called White Castles and they sell hamburgers. They're not as splended as those castles in France! Guy
WOw! The photos are so beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing. Especially for me, I have been holed up for a while and your photos and comments really take me away from here. Much needed respite!
Merci Michel!
Clementine
Those are sooooo beautiful!! I can't imagine seeing something like that just walking down the street every day!
I have French ancestory and so I love seeing the beautiful buildings you have in France - it reminds me of home and all the castles there. Remember that Scotland and France have an 'entente cordiale'.
WOW that great castles Michel , I am sorry I missed them when I was in Amiens , at least it means I need to go back again
I am looking forward to the Tour of France I love watching the cycling and the French Countryside
wow! GORGEOUS!

It is always a joy to be able to see beautiful objects. These palaces and castles are most lovely. I have hope that someday I will be able to come to France and see the county in person. Until then your photographs are wonderful.
Carol
Beautiful castles, Michel....since I live in Southern California, were nothing is over 100 years old...this is a wonderful change of scenery. It is amazing that these buildings are still in such wonderful shape and still being taken care of so well. What a wonderful site to see every day.
Thank you for sharing.
They are beautiful castles. I think it would be fun to live in one.
Wonderful pics Michel, we both share countries with such historical treasures, it was great to see some of yours.
I can't imagine it. Living in one of those. The heating bill alone would kill me.
Oh, Michel! They are beautiful. To this American they seem like something from a fairy tale.
les châteaux sont ravissant!
Such beautiful castles. I wish we had more scenery like that in the US. I'd like to visit Europe someday, I hope I can.
WonDerFul CasTlE!!!
I agree with what Carlo said
And of course I'm moving into the castle as soon as he says it's ok to do so!
Very interesting post Michel
. Castles, have always fascinated me
. Wonderful pictures you've posted here...I'd love to visit there someday
.
My breath is taken away by the beauty of this region, and your photos give a real connected feeling for me. I cannot even imagine how I would feel there! I guess one word to describe it would be spellbound!
beautiful photos Michel!
I love castles and old buildings, they have to much character and they are so beautiful, hopefully one day i will be able to visit them, but until then, i will enjoy the the lovely photos that you take of them
I look forward to seeing castles in France! And the Chateaus, as well. So much of France I still have not seen--but I am hopeful!
The castles are beautiful. My home is not that big but it is my castle and enough to keep clean. I could not imagine keeping one of those clean.
Dear Grandpa Michel, I thank you for sharing so many pictures with us, not only the castles, but all the glimpses of life in your homeland.
Sometimes I feel a tug at my heartstrings, and I wish I could live somewhere so rich in heritage, with places built with such fine craftsmanship, trees and gardens that reach back into antiquity. There is great beauty and culture in those lands our American ancestors left... and it seems we left more than land behind; we seem to have left much wisdom behind as well.
But you know, I live now in a wild place that has known freedom from mankind's hand for ages, and there is something very special about this too. I cannot take photos of the tall wild grasses as the wind blows over them, how they move in waves, as waves upon the sea, as far as I can see. The eagle soars above, the pines whisper their ancient secrets, and this great dome overhead is my new-found castle.
There is beauty in all, if only we have eyes to see.
In peace, ~Paloma
Beautiful, Michel. I love castles and of course we have plenty here too. Frank and I used to holiday near the sea and old castles/churches so we always had plenty to see and learn about. Paloma seems to live in a very beautiful place doesn't she ? I'm jealous.
Marie
Those are wonderful Michel! I'd love to live on one, but not have to clean it.
Thanks for sharing those wonderful photos.
DG
Beautiful pictures! Seeing the pictures that you and Englishjuls have been posting makes me want to travel so badly! Hopefully some day I will get to see these places in person. Until then your pictures and stories are wonderful.
Wow... beautiful pics and great information... thanks for sharing... always great to visit your site
About the research I will be doing in Sweden, I will be working on improving the design of computer processors.
So many wonderful castles. But where are the noble knights anymore to defend them?
That was very interesting. I love the different styles. In Wales we have a lot of castles and churches with Norman influence: the squared-off towers and battlements. Here in the West Indies, there a couple of fortresses in Puerto Rico, but its very short on historic architecture (short nothing, there isn't any at all!)
Wow.. what beautiful Pictures ((((MICHEL))))) I love to come here and see what you have for us. Always so refreshing and interesting. Educational even!!!
Have a wonderful week Michel. My best to the family!
Those pictures are absolutely beautiful..
what a most magical place that is...Its so lovely..I think i would love it there, seems so very peacefull..
missed you..
rubymoon
Thank you for the castles, Michel. We have mansions here, but no castles. They are beautiful!
awesome! real castles
Your castle pictures are very beautiful. They make me want to visit France. I speak only English, so I have been afraid to travel where English is not spoken, but maybe I will have to try.
Those castles are very beautiful!!!!! I would love to live some where where there are those many castles. I wanted to thank-you for your kind words to me over these past few weeks. I really appreciate it. God Bless You and your family.
mike
Merci Michel !! Merveilleux Michel !!
Love.. Rose
Michel how kind of you to share such wonders. I loved the French countryside but had no idea that there were such wonderful castles still standing. We only traveled a bit outside of Paris the one time we visited France. The history those castles must have seen. If only they could talk! Merci beaucoup.
C'est incroyable. Magnifique.
I can see that you have more castles in your region of France than we do in South East England. They are very elegant buildings aren't they. Lovely photographs, Tom
J'admire !
Beautiful castle pictures
very lovely
I bet Roses were flowering in Picardy when you and Janine went there after your wedding. I feel mad I missed all the best spots, when we went through France. It was a time when there was animosity between Frannce and Aus. over the sinking of some ship and bombs being let offf in our area. The people we met were not very friendly and would not or could not understand out English, and you know what the English are like, they rhink everyone should speak their language. I think you are the only one on here who understands when I write even when I complain, that I often have my tongue in cheek. I am seldom really sad or mad but most take me literally. I get sympathy I certainly don't deserve, perhaps I do and don't realise it, you are one of my biggest fans and I appreciate it. I am now writing for Wild child Publishing not that they pay but it is somewhere else to air my mind. I shall send you an e.mail saying I am 58th I have been out too much lately to keep tabs on everyone. Cheers and Love Marjie

!!!
oh my goodness..that looks like such a beautiful place.
i absolutely ADORE castles. thanks for sharing pictures of castles to us. i will be going to europe tomorrow. i hope to come across some of them when i get there
Such wonderful pictures. I enjoy pictures of castles so very much. Romantic at heart and always think of the best instead of the dafts, heating problems...and what about the plumbing
Makes my house just an unborn infant in time
Those are beautiful castles! I would love to be able to walk thru them and just look at everything. Very fasinating!

Ahhhh These castles are gorgeous, we don't have anything like that around here!! I suppose there are some gracious buildings somewhere in Canada, but not around here
Happy Gardening!!
Thank you Geri for your wishes of happy gardening . Indeed with the wet and hot weather we have the vegetables are growing very well but the weeds and mushrooms ( mildew )too !!!
Thank you so much for the castle tour; they are so beautiful and I enjoy the history of each one.
Hi Michael,
Thank you for a quick tour of the castles - its great to so see such beautiful pics early in the morning; I want to go see the castles!!
I love middle age, things. From reading about it to actually doing some of the fighting (broadsword twice) never tried lancing or jousting (dependant on horse) but they have always captured my mind... Then I read Timeline by Michael Crichton (can't remember his last name right now.) and it drew me closer.
How beautiful. I would so love to see inside. I wonder if they are full of antiques?
Condolences on the rugby, but, considering the top french players who were not able to play, the french sure put up a good fight!!!
castles; there beautiful! One day i would like to visit France. Have a good weekend, hugs fancy
that was beautiful and thank you ten thousand times for the history and the pictures. wonderful!
Beautiful pictures!! Merci beaucoup!!
These pictures are amazing, Michel! I would so love to visit France one day! Of course, only if you'll be my personal tour guide!

Michel!!! That was the best Xanga blog ever!!! I LOVE the pictures!!! It makes me want to see these castles even more now!! You are the luckiest person!
Wow...stunning. I wish that we had that kind of history and beautiful architecture in America! That's what I love about Europe..everything is old and has history...if the walls could speak, what amazing stories they would tell.
I am so fascinated by castles!!! It might have something to do with us not having any in our country! So every time I travel to Europe I simply HAVE to see a castle or two (or more!).
Hello Michel
Thanks for visiting. I love your photography. What a beautiful place to visit.
it seems we are both talking of castles today! the french castles seem so much more sophisticated than the brute english castles! they are very beautiful indeed, fauquet! thank you for sharing them!
What beautiful castles. How I would love to explore them. I try to imagine all the history that is hidden behind their doors. Whenever I see pictures of castles, I think of fairy tales that were read to me when I was a child.
I also love the picture of the chapel in Rue, what a pretty little town. Thanks for sharing your pictures with us, Michel.
