L' ambiguïté de la nature humaine .
Voici une vue partielle du centre d ' une petite ville de Picardie : RUE ( environ 3000 habitants ) dans le nord de la France près de la mer ..Ma femme Janine a grandi là .On voit côte à côte le beffroi , l ' hospice et sa chapelle . Ces derniers ont été construits à partir du XII e siècle et reconstruits au XV ème siècle avec le beffroi .
L ' hospice nous dit : sois charitable
La petite église nous dit : aie la foi , la confiance .
Mais le beffroi nous dit : tiens - toi sur tes gardes !
Ils symbolisent un peu l ' ambiguïté de la nature humaine .

The ambiguity of the human nature .
Here is a part view of the center of a little town of Picardy : RUE ( about 3000 inhabitants ) in north of France , no far the seaside . My wife Janine grew up there . We see the belfry , the hospice and its little church ( chapel ) . These last ones have been built from the XII th century and re- built at the XV th century like the belfry .
The hospice tells us : be charitable .
The little church tells us : be faithful and confiding .
But the belfry tells us : be on guard !
They are a little the symbol of the ambiguity of the human nature .

What a charming town! In America we have nothing of ancient beauty, except nature. Humanity is full of seeming abiguity. And Neufchâtel is not far from your home. We eat Neufchâtel cheese almost every week. It is inexpensive and quite available.
La ville quel charmante! Dans l'Amérique nous n'avons rien de beauté ancienne, sauf la nature. L'humanité est pleine de sembler de abiguity. Et Neufchâtel n'est pas loin de votre maison. Nous mangeons le fromage de Neufchâtel presque chaque semaine. C'est bon marché et tout à fait disponible.
It is true there are many aspects to human nature. The Bible tells us to be as peaceful as doves, but as wise as serpents!
In America, we would say that is your wife's "hometown." It is a a lovely and charming place.
I agree, our society creates many paradoxes for which we need to abide.

...with ambiguity is confusion, sometimes I don't know to be on alert or be charitable. However, forever have faith.
...noticed the severe pruning of the trees. Do you know why they were cut so severely and to how they will grow now?
It's a story in the making. Life from begining to end. Beauty where the eye can find it and the heart can feel it.

What a beautiful place to grow up. I love the look of the town. Everything in Europe is so very quaint....and beautiful.
Now that picture is sooo well done. It is as clear as if we were at the end of the street. I wish I lived in a place so beautiful as that. Totally serene in appearance. What a beautiful picture. I cannot think of a more appropriate word to describe it. It is scenic, not only to the sight, but also in its depiction of humanity. Simply wonderful.
Isn't it true that we are to be kind and think the best of others yet be on guard and watchful so that we aren't harmed?? It's a balance and ambiguity is a very fitting description.
As Teri said, we don't have stuctures in America so old...some day I hope to see Europe!! I would love to experience the age and history of it.
- answer to lkhend about the trees :the gardeners of the town cut the branchs shortly every winter to get a suitable size of the foliage .
I think the gospel tells us to be "wise as serpents but innocent as doves". That sounds similar to your own advice! I've not been to Picardy, but who knows where I'll be in France next spring. Have a wonderful weekend. Tom
How beautiful
New Zealand is a young country - so we don't have the wonderful old historic buildings as you do in Europe. I am so looking forward to seeing them when I come over next year. I see the trees have been pruned hard to keep them in shape - they look so attractive. Have a wonderful weekend there

In answer to your question, a deck chair is a canvas chair in a folding wood frame. In English resorts deck-chairs are provided by the town council and an attendant comes round twice a day to charge those who are sitting in them. I hope this makes sense! Tom

I seem to remember a WW1 song ( no I'm Not that old at all !! ) about the " roses of Picardy " Is it the sames town ? I wnnt to a school run by Notre Dame nuns and I think that St. Julie ( the founder ) came from near there Iis that true ?

Ah... I agree about the ambiguity in human nature! I would not have seen it, in your photo, without the explaination.
This post reminds me of a psychiatry article I read an article explaining how the sane, stable mind can accept ambiguities in life.
Perhaps miraculously, a mature, stable "mind" can adjust to knowing there will always be dischord among and exceptions within our commonly accepted "laws" of nature (and, of course, laws of human behavior).
So, it looks to me as if you're sane! Heh, so good to see your posts.

Charitable, faithful and vigilant...perhaps a balance of all three are necessary. Too much trust can be naive, but too much vigilence without charity becomes paranoia. Thanks for sharing a lovely picture and an interesting thought!

Answer to stay2nd : Yes I am proud to be french . Why ? Ask yoursef why so many people are attracted to visit France ? What are the causes ? This is not only for the effeil Tower ! LOL . That being said I am admiring and loving very much all the cultures of the other countries .
You are so lucky! I bought a French language tape once, but it was really hard to understand what the guy was saying in English let alone French.. so I didn't get very far.
