Our son Pierre becomes specialist to split the logs . He is teaching the process to his sister Isabelle ( the red hair) and his nephew  coming from England, last February 19, 2015You know, it's a hard work : strenght and prcision are needed ,  and to make short a great self control. At the end Sarah, Isabelle 's daughter comes to check what it is about the job ! We encourage them in that good way

  • I love splitting logs!!! It is good exercise and has a purpose. Lifting weights at the gym has no secondary purpose, but lifting the ax and stretching ones body up ward toward the heavens and then to swing down bending and holding tight onto the handle not only strengthen ones body, improve ones breathing and heart but also provides a supply of fire wood for heating the home or cooking on!

    • Who would have been able to describe the gestures of the body, the qualities of that exercise and the vital purpose to keep warm in the house , better than you, John who have built a cabin in wood worked by your hands ?

  • Perhaps Isabelle needed a coat with better shoulder sleeve space? lol

ryc: Eventually the Bistro will have wine and beer, neither of which we partake. :-) They took my favorite lasagna off and I don't eat sausage that they now use in it.

I don't have a lot of compassion for John who chose to lie to me and then keep us waiting. I keep thinking back to his statement he is a painter. This job required more than painting.

  • That is great! Enjoyed it ~

  • I have split a few logs in my time.It was satisfying.

My father somehow cut off four toes of his foot and the doctors bent his big toe around some way for better balance. He had a slight limp but did fine. He said it happened when he was using an ax, but I don't recall the details.

  • I love the way the photo's look like paintings(pastels).
    Splitting logs is energetic work.

  • I am like Aloysius_son... I like my exercise to have purpose. :-)

  • This is so neat! One of the book series that I read to my Mom talks about the splitting of logs for building, and this kind of put into picture for me what I had read to her.
You have talented children and grandchildren!
I agree with Lynn's two comments above!

  • Mornin Glorie...that was a great lesson in splitting wood, I too have had the pleasure of warming myself twice =) Thank you so much for checking on me, I am still here, however it seems life has gotten rather busy, both at work and home. I'm hoping things will slow down soon and I can get back in the routine of posting. I pray you and yours are well, I can see that your all strong and handsome ...ilym

  • They always told me...splitting logs warms you twice...once when you work hard to split the logs and then a second time when you burn the logs in the fireplace! :-)
We lived with only fireplace heat in one house...so I know about log splitting and log stacking and fire starting.
Love that presentation of the photos!
    HUGS!!! :-)

  • Splitting logs is hard work and is indeed something that must be learned as it does not come naturally to most people.

  • Celebrate the splitting of the logs with ....chocolate! yes that's it! to warm the cold worker of the logs.

  • I was never good at splitting logs till I used a wedge and hammer

  • Looks like great fun but its something that I have never done. We buy in logs and coal for our fire

  • Lot of fun it seems. Great pictures for posterity.

  • Fauquet! a big hi to you from India!

  • Now that is a job and I remember in my younger years splitting the logs, stacking it to dry and totally enjoying wood heat.

  • What a creative presentation. I enjoyed this.

  • This is awesome. A fun (and productive) exercise! I love Aloysius_son's comment as well.

  • Such wonderful fun!!! <3

  • Haha... I was more excited about you doing the photo montage. Good job!
    Thanks for sharing this.

  • In my previous post: Some readers are ecstatic at reading my way to drink beer in small touches . But beer is precious and there is a beer culture . Do you know beer, barrel, polka ? here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTcYdahzg84

  • I've tried German black beer in can here in Saigon Vietnam. Very good. Don't know if there were a better beer.

    • Not surprised you loved the German beer,it was probably a beer made in Munich ( Bavière ) . Other contries makes good beer too :,Netherland, Belgium and in France (northern France and Alsace ).

  • Splitting logs really is hard work! I guess it good for the soul too? :-)

About snow in Florida? When we were there there was no snow. I was glad for that. I'm going to be glad for spring. Winter makes us thankful for spring. One day at a time. Right? Hope you have a wonderful week!

  • TY so very much for you recommend on my postman photos of the sail boat on the river.
