English version below the picture Je dois avouer que je fus émerveillé quand je vis cet intérieur d 'une vieille maison dans un petit village du nord de la France , si bien conservé et restauré . Je fus d ' abord frappé par le manteau de la grande cheminée recouvert d ' anciennes céramiques bleu et blanc fabriquées dans la région de Boulogne - sur - mer . L ' âtre lui -même est carrelé selon un dessin différent mais toujours bleu et blanc . Ces couleurs s ' harmonisent avec le brun de l ' encadrement de la cheminée et du bois des sièges . Les pichets en étain jouent bien aussi leur partition . L' ancien poêle a été remplacé par un nouveau complètement entouré de carreaux faïence beige avec , dans la partie supérieure , le dessin d 'un attelage à la moisson . Ces céramiques sont récentes et sont toujours fabriquées dans la région . Le rayon de lumière venant de la droite par la fenêtre fait chanter cette harmonie de couleurs . C ' est cette harmonie que j ' ai ressentie et que je souhaiterais vous faire partager . Une dernière précision : une de nos filles vit là . I have to confess I was amazed when I saw this inside of an old house in a tiny village in Northern France , so well saved and restored . What struck me most was the mantelpiece of the fireplace covered by ancient blue and white ceramics made in the area of Boulogne - sur - mer ( North West of France ) . The fireplace itself is covered with tiles of ceramics showing a different design but always blue and white . Those colors are in harmony with the brown of the fireplace frame and the wood of the chairs . The pewter jugs play well their score too . . The ancient stove has been replaced by a new one completely surrounded with beige faience tiles with in the upper part a drawing of carriage and horses at the harvest . Those last ceramics are recent and always are made in the area . The ray of light coming from the right through the window makes this harmony of colors sing . This is that harmony I wanted to share with you . Une nouvelle cuisine
A new kitchen .
English version below the second picture
Nous vivons dans une maison construite dans les années 30 . La cuisine était encore à l ' ancienne mode . Ma femme s ' était résignée mais elle rêvait d 'une cuisine moderne comme on fait maintenant . Pendant longtemps je pensais que cette cuisine était convenable mais récemment je réalisais que j ' avais là l 'occasion d ' offrir un beau cadeau en satisfaisant des rêves de ma valeureuse épouse . La décision fut prise . Tout ce qui existait fut enlevé . Et ensuite la fameuse cuisine moderne fut installée . En voici quelques vues . Inutile de dire que Janine est dans le plus parfait bonheur avec ce nouveau royaume . La soupe sera bonne !

We live in a house built in the thirty ' s . The kitchen had an old - fashionable look . Ma wife was resigned but she dreamt of a modern kitchen like the ones that are made nowadays . During a long time I thought we had a suitable kitchen but recently I realized I had an opportunity to offer a beautiful gift in making my valiant spouse ' s dream real .
The decision was taken . All of old things were taken off . Then the famous kitchen was installed . Here are below three views of it . Useless to say that Janine is ecstatic in her new kingdom .

La fraîcheur des commencements .

Certains parmi vous m ' ont demandé à quoi je ressemblais en 1957 et comment j ' avais rencontré Janine. Voici la photo . J ' étais un jeune instituteur en cette année - là et sur la photo j ' étais avec un groupe de collègues . Durant les vacances je travaillais comme moniteur dans un colonie de vacances et Janine aussi . C ' est comme cela que nous nous sommes rencontrés .
Je suivais aussi des cours à l 'université dans le même temps et je devins professeur en 1958 . Puis je partis à l ' armée où je devins officier , durant 27 mois et demi incluant un temps en Algérie ( la guerre ) . Je suis rentré à la fin de Décembre 1960 et Janine et moi nous nous sommes mariés le 18 février 1961 .
Voici la photo de nous deux le lendemain de notre mariage . Ce dernier fut très simple puisque j ' avais perdu mes deux parents en 1956 et j' étais leur seul enfant .. D ' ailleurs Janine ne portait pas la traditionnelle robe blanche de mariage mais cette robe grège toute simple mais jolie .
Notre premier enfant naquit en Janvier 1962 .
Some of you asked me what I looked like in 1957 and how I met Janine . Here is the picture . I was a young elementary school teacher at this time and on the picture I was among a group of colleagues . During the vacations I worked as a monitor in a summer camp for young people and Janine too . This is how we met each other .
I attended also courses at the university at the same time and I became secondary shool teacher in 1958 . Then I joined the army , where I became an officer , during 27 months and half including a time in Algeria ( war ) . I came back at the end of December 1960 and married Janine on the 18th of February 1961 .
This is a picture of us taken the day after the wedding which was very simple since I had lost both my parents in 1956 and I was their only child . Besides Janine didn' t wear the traditional white wedding gown but she wore that simple white /beige dress , very nice .
Our first child is born the next year in January 1962 .
