    The wine cellar .

During a stay in Canada almost a year ago , friends asked me : " Do you have a wine cellar ? " . Yes , we have . It is partly shown on the picture .
Almost all of the France areas product good wines . When we go on short holidays we bring back home some bottles and the cellar gains progressively in various wines .
It ' s my wife Janine who manages the cellar . All is classified , with labels and list on a placard hang on the wall : Bourgogne , Beaujolais , Côtes - du - Rhône , Jura , Savoie , Alsace , Bordeaux , Loire , Champagne ...
The colour of the wine in the glass delights the eyes . The bouquet makes us dream . And the tastes are so different !
The wine makes the human heart glad

  • Oh wow!! That is a collection!! In reading my studies on Ancient Rome -  they always drank a nice Falarian wine to share the friendship.. Nice!

  • ooo!   that wine collection is quite nice.  do a lot of french/european people have wine cellars?  *cheers*  :)

  • Such a lovely collection!

  • how nice~!  i'm getting REALLY thirsty :)

  • Yes Michel, I like wine very much!  I would love to have a wine cellar like that, with such variety too!  What a wonderful sight!

  • i think this is a french saying,

nothing equals the joy of the drinker, except the joy of the wine in being drunk.

  • HMMMM...Cheers!!!

  • Wow!  That is great!  I wish I knew more about wines.

  • Wow!  Seeing and reading your post makes me want to go pour a glassful of "gladness for my human heart"!

  • "Is it the grape that gets us drunk, or do we get the grape drunk?"

  • that must be neat to have such a collection!

  • What a wonderful collection. Do love a good wine...however it never lasts long enough to put in a cellar   Have a lovely week

  • that is an amazing collection, michel!

    prosst!  skØl!  cheers! :)

  • Go, eat your bread with enjoyment, and drink your wine with a merry heart!  Ecclesiastes 9:7.

  • I don't know what to say but that i'm impressed everytime i click on your page!...you're living out the life i dream of!...walks on bridges..antiques...gardening..wine...Michel..you know how to live life! =PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

  • impressive. i wish my mom had one. not that i drink, of course... the laws here are so stupid sometimes. americans. restrict the drinking age and the kids go buck wild. just let 'em have it. then they'll see it's not that great.

  • Impressive Michel! Sometimes I wish I could enjoy a nice glass of wine. Probably with Christmas (while during this time of year, we don't drink...otherwise we don't manage to get out of bed early in the morning...)

  • I wish wine was more of a staple here in the US like it is everywhere else...It tends to be really pricey for good stuff and not many people drink it compared to the number of people who drink beer--and not just beer, but lots of it, and BAD beer at that. Sigh.

  • What a wonderful collection. Wine makes me very glad but if I drink too much sometimes sad ha.

  • enough to last until the end of my days on earth

  • I want one!

  • HOLY COW!  Merlot.. where is the Merlot?

  • Wine - and of course - the local foods is one of the excitements of my trip to Europe next year. Being a wine drinker (red preferably) I am so looking forward to sampling. Over here we mostly have New Zealand wines of course, Australian and  wines from Chile - that are often blends. We can buy imported French Champagne though - we always have that at Christmas

  • Ohhh - is all your wine corked? I opened a bottle tonight - and it was a screw top !!!

  • Answer to SummersSong : It is with difficulty we can imagine here a bottle of vintage wine with a screw top .   .Yes all our bottles have a  good cork .

  • Oh, I am envious! I agree with the8rgrl--Americans just don't drink as much wine because the good wine is expensive. And the affordable stuff is not good. I'd love to have easy access to that much wine!

  • Someday I will have a wine cellar! And to all those folks out there who think there is no good inexpensive wine in the US, you just haven't tasted enough! I find lots of great wine under $20! Cheers!

  • Very impressive. Does the wine cellar have to be kept at a certain temperature? I really know very little about wine cellars.

I was never much of a drinker, but I "love" a good glass of wine on special occasions.

P.S. I am starting to be able to read some of your French words. I have a self-taught French course and it is a lot of fun to try to guess what you have written about in your blog, before I read it in English.

Thanks for your comments about my brother.

  • Hi there. Thanks so much for taking the time to visit me today! And thanks for dropping off the bottle of wine too. How nice of you Sir.

It was so nice meeting you....

  • 'tis quite a cellar

  • ...mmm, Michel, very nice! Indeed, a good glass of wine does make merry the human heart!
...perhaps, you'll post on Bleriot's flight during the celebration of flight?  Love and energy, MuSe

  • Just the thought of all the savory tastes and aromas! Yes! just the look of wine in a glass. Maybe the old masters thought of the beautiful stained glass windows from the colors of the wines. What a hidden treasure have!  Thank you for sharing your treasures, Michel!     @-}-}--  Karolyn

  • Did you know that where I live on California's central coast is a major wine producer?  There are many wineries in the area, and the landscape has been vineyards.

  • There are some very good wine growing areas in Australia, and I happen to live just an hour and a half drive from one of them.  Like you, I enjoy going to different areas and collecting wines to bring home and cellar, although my "cellar" looks more like a box in the garage and nothing like yours.

  • oh wow...i like it!!  wine country is so nice...nice collection!!  =)  happy holidays!!!

  • Lovely wine cellar!

  • I think I can guess which bottle is Port.

  • My what a large cellar you have. I thought I had a lot when we won the money to buy $150 with. as we don't drink at all these days we bought to give presents to people. Have you any Australian wines, some are delicious and cheap. Years ago when we had two keen wine buffs as friends before they returned to England, we were regular visitors to South Australian wineries and sampled many. Not that I am keen on many wines and I don't like champagne. I think people swank about that. We used to drink 'Graves'. I then went on to Brandy and dry ginger and stuck with that. Not so high up this time but not too bad about 45 I think ,Cheers Marjie

  • That is like Heaven and Jeanine est comme St.Pierre , elle a les clefs du paradis.

Je vois que il n'il n y a pas du  Barolo ou du  Chianti.

Tu est jamais etè en Italie?

    Bien à toi.

    Carlo.

  •  Answer to carlo , Portia , Cork and Hedgie : I agree totaly with you . There are good wines in Italia , Australia and California . But it is far to go and bring back home bottles  to France .

  • Michel - first of all thank you very much for subscribing to my site. I hope it is not a disappointment to you.

I so very much enjoy reading your blogs because you have such a refreshing outlook on life. Europeans are very different from Americans and I relish the difference. I have noticed the difference on my travels thus far. I made it to Paris for a week and loved it. Next I wan tto go to out in the country of France more - I hear it is amazing.

    Happy holidays my friend.

  • Among all your blogs, this is probably my favorite. (next to blogs about your grandchildren)

WOW!!! is all I can say.

There is food for hunger and there is food for the soul.

You are one very, very fortunate man!

  • Very neat wine cellar. Congrats to the little woman.

  • I will be visiting Paris in a couple of months....perhaps I can find a nice bottle of wine to bring home with me.

  • *giggles at Southland's under $20 comment*

a friend and I, of course we are not legal to drink over here.. got together and tasted wine and cheese.  We did find a mediocre wine.. it was pretty good, but for $13.

anyways, we were trying to imagine ourselves sophisticated, what with all the connotations of wine.

  • Thanks again for coming to the Xanga Christmas Party! And for bringing a lovely bottle of your finest wine.  *wink*  It's great

  • Wow!  That would be enough to last me the rest of my life. lol  I make my hubby wine coolers and he enjoys a glass now and again.  I drink maybe one glass every 6 months if then.  However,  I love sauteeing mushrooms in wine.  Absolutely scrumptious with a good steak dinner, with the steak being grilled over pecan wood or mesquite. Yum Yum.  Oh gees see your wine cellar got me going. lol   A very nice wine cellar too.  That is one my dad really would have appreciated.  Thank you for sharing.  Thank you for your comments for my party.  I am so glad that in some way you were there.  It was my pleasure to post your comment.  Have a great day and  a wonderful tomorrow! ! !   Much love and hugs! ! ! !

A preview of tonights blog!  I hope you like!

  • J'aime la vin rouge la meilleur.  Et toi?

  • wow, it would be great to have a cellar...but i don't think i'd be able to maintain it...

  • fantastic! looks like something i should start doing...

    u are inspiring me sir

  • What a wonderful wine cellar you have Michel! There is nothing like a good bottle of white or red with a meal .

Thanks for dropping by my party yesterday! It was lovely having you over .

  • Wonderful! But you will have to come back to Canada for some Ice Wine.

  • WOW!

  • Hi Michel.. I'm so glad we met and that you come to my page everyday... I love to see that you have visited me!

Have a wonderful day Sir.. and my best to the family!

  • to answer your question: i dont know much about wine, but i've tasted some that i really liked.

  • Nice! That's a big collection of wine, and a very nice cellar. I love that picture! I hope someday to have a collection like the one that you have.
In response to your question....I really don't drink very much, but someday I hope to learn more about wine and, like I said, have a collection of my own.

  • What a fabulous wine cellar that appears to be!!!!

  • Thank you! ! !  I am so glad we share some of the same likes.  Makes it just a little nicer! ! !   Much love and hugs! ! !   Have a great night and a better tomorrow! ! ! !!   Have a very, very Merry and Blessed Christmas! ! ! !

  • You must have a large basement for such a nice assortment..  it's nice your wife keeps it so organized.. you are right the tastes are so different. It's nice to find wine that is so good you forget you are drinking wine, it can be so pleasant..

  • So, that's what a wine cellar looks like!!!  Can you believe I've always thought it was just wine in boxes?

Thanks for the Christmas wishes.  I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family.  Happy Holidays.

  • that is a most impressive-looking cellar.  it is hard for me to imagine all the differences in each of the wines, because to my unrefined palate, they all taste the same.

  • i'm afraid i don't drink michel. i can't actually. :D it's ok. the sight of wine cellars make me smile. w hole lot of drinks in one place. i imagine a pepsi-filled cellar instead. :O)

  • How wonderful! And how fortunate to have a good selection of fine wine. You are a peerson who truly lives!

    Joyeux Noel, mon ami!

  • That is SO cool!!!!

I don't know enough about wine to even figure out what to buy or not to buy.  I like light sweet tasting things... any suggestions on brands or types???

You could have your own wine tasting party!!!!

  • what a bright and wonderful wine cellar!

it appears as if *negative print* of a picture e` showed me of skulls in underground in France!
yes .. the opposite of sadness and darkness!

~The wine makes the human heart glad .~

  • thank you for your comment on my painting of Eastbourne.

Your wine cellar is very impressive!  I envy you for having so much space in your house.  In England we do not have many cellars and so we store our wine in the garage, which gets too hot in summer.

I very much enjoyed the vin de Bourgueil  which I brought back from the Loire valley in October but I can't find it in shops over here in England.

    Best regards,  Tom

  • Popping in to wish you and your family a WONDERFUL Christmas and Happy New year!

  • I now remember that "cave" is a word I encoutered often in France this summer.  I now have about 20 bottles of various wines, many of then Australian I regret to say.  When I visit France in Spring I will buy a large number of vin de France so that I can enjoy authentic quality.  Tom

  • Wow... Thats alot of wine!!!

  • HI MICHEL,,I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WINE ,NOT THE FIRST THING. I WISH I DID ! YOUR COLLECTION SEEMS SO IMPRESSIVE! THANK YOU FOR SHARING  WITH US. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND  HAPPY NEW YEAR MICHEL AND JANINE , MAY GOD BLESS YOU BOTH! HUGS FANCY
