  • Un fier capitaine

      Regardez cet homme sur son bateau sur un lac de l ' Ontario en Juillet dernier .. Il file à pleine vitesse . Ce fier capitaine a 87 ans ( depuis Août dernier ). Et il est toujours jeune et dynamique comme le montre cette photo qui m ' a été envoyée récemment par sa fille .


      Il s ' agit de mon camarade Douglas Bible . Je le connus en Septembre 1944 quand il était soldat dans l ' armée canadienne qui libérait la région du nord de la France où je vivais enfant . La batterie de canons était restée environ 2 semaines parce que les Allemands résistaient . J ' avais fraternisé avec lui fièrement . Et mes parents l ' avait invité chez eux pour un bon repas .J ' ai déjà raconté cette histoire .


        Cela fait 60 ans , c ' est un anniversaire et je lui rends hommage par ce blog .

      Look at this man driving his boat on a lake of Ontario last July . He is rushing at full speed . This proud captain is 87 years old ( since last August ) . He always is young and dynamic as you can see on the picture . This last has been recently sent to me by his daughter .


      He is my comrade Douglas Bible . I knew him in September 1944 when he was a artilleryman in the Canadian army that liberated the northen France area where I lived as a child .The battery of guns was stayed about 2 weeks in that place because the Germans resisted . I had fraternized proudly with him . And my parents had welcomed him at their home to take a meal . I already related this story .


      60 years ago ! It ' s an anniversary and I pay tribute to him with this blog .

     Que dire ?  Que contenait le verre tenu par ma femme Janine ?  Mais peut - être y  a- t - il autre chose à dire à propos de cela ? Je ne sais pas .


    What to say ? What did the glass held by my wife Janine contain ?  Perhaps there are other things to say about that ? I don' t know .


    Up date : This picture has been taken during a familial gathering for both the mother and father Days . It was champagne in the Janine ' s glass .

      En juillet dernier nous avons visité le château du Haut - Koenisbourg , verutable nid d ' aigle , perché à 757 mètres sur le versant alsacien des Vosges , montagnes situées dans l ' est de la France . Ce château - fort est construit avec des blocs de grès rose . Il a fière allure .


    Son histoire est aussi compliquée que celle de l ' Alsace qui remonte à l ' Empire de Charlemagne ( IX ème siècle ) englobant la France et L ' Allemagne actuelles . Construit au XII ème siècle il a été détruit par les ….Suédois en 1633 . Et c ' est l ' Empereur ….d ' Allemagne qui le reconstruit en 1901 à une époque où l ' Alsace avait été prise à la France par l ' Allemagne ( 1870 - 1918 ) ;. Vous voyez c' est très compliqué et il faudrait un livre pour raconter l ' histoire de cette région .( sans oublier Celtes , Romains et Francs avant Charlemagne )


       Last July we visited the Haut - Koenisbourg Castle , true eagle ' s nest , perched at 757 meters on the Alsacian versant of Vosges , mountains located in the eastern France . This fortress is built with blocks of pink sandstone .It is proud looking .


       Its history is as much complicated as the one of Alsace that starts from the Charlemagne ' s Empire ( IX th century ) including actual France and Germany . Built at the beginning of the XII th century it has been destroyed by …. the Swedish army in 1633 . And it is …. the German Emperor who rebuilt it in 1901 at a time when Alsace had been annexed off France by Germany ( 1870 - 1918 ) You see , it ' s very complicated and a book would be necessary to relate the history of this region ( without forget Celtes , Romans , Franks before Charlemagne )

      Du haut de ce château vous voyez la plaine d ' Alsace avec ses villages et ses vignobles renommés . Loin , à l ' horizon dans le brouillard on peut discerner la montagne allemande de la Forêt Noire . Dans cette plaine coule le Rhin : la plaine est aussi appelée fossé rhénan . Pourquoi fossé ? En réalité à l ' ére primaire Vosges et forest Noire étaient une seule montagne . Puis à l ' ère tertiaire sous le choc de la formation des Alpes au sud le milieu de la montagne s ' effondra pour former une dépression allongée entre des failles : un graben dont la plaine d ' Alsace ( ou du Rhin ) est un bel exemple .


       From the top of the castle you see the plain of Alsace with its villages and its renowned vineyards . Far , at the horizon in the mist we can discern the German mountain Black Forest . In this plain the river Rhine flows : the plain is also called Rhenish rift valley . Why rift valley ? In fact at the Primary era Vosges and Black Forest were only one mountain . Then at the Tertiary by the shock of the Alpes formation to the south , the middle of the mountain made subsidence to form an elongated depression between geologic faults : a graben , of which the Alsace plain ( or Rhenish plain ) is a beautiful example .

    Je ne dois pas oublier que je suis le " leader " du blogring " kitchen garden = potager. Works and thoughts " . Voici donc quelques unes de mes productions dont je suis fier .( en toute modestie) . Je dois dire que mon jardin est argileux avec de nombreux silex . C ' est dur . Certains d ' entre vous ne cultivent qu 'un petit terrain ou même en pots . Mais les petits jardins font les grands jardiniers .


    I must not forget that I am the " leader " of the blogring " kitchen garden = vegetable garden . Works and thoughts ". See on the side bar .. Here are some of my products whom I am proud ( with all the suitable modesty ). I have to say my garden is clay with flint implements . It is hard . Any of you grow flowers or vegetables in small surface and even in pots . But the small gardens make the grand gardeners .
