Un Village alsacien .
An Alsacian village
Texts in French then in English .
Alsace is a region of Eastern France near the German border . There are plenty wonderful villages . Here is one of them which my wife and I love : EGUISHEIM . We went last July for a short trip .

There are 12 centuries of History in this village . It keeps many of its ancient features . We loved to stroll into those narrow paved streets following the ancient remparts around the borough centre . so , when you walk along this street you are sure to come back to the starting point . We were amazed by those old half-timbered houses with their corbellings , plentifully flowered .There are also many wine cellars . It was magic .

Here is the old castle which has lost its donjon and the Leon IX chapel . This last one was a pope who lived at the beginning of the XI th century . He is born here in 1002 . One sees his statue . The pink sandstone of the buildings and the amount of red flowers are a blast of colors .

The stork is a bird almost sacred in Alsace . It is a little its emblem . On the church as in many other alsacian villages there is a stork nest .

Quelle joie !
At the end of our stay in Eguisheim we met a Xangan Anne - Marie ( BBofLight ) and her husband Johann especially come from Germany to meet us . It was the highlight of our stay . Our time was limited but we ate a good meal together . What a joy !

Un voyage belle et tres interessante.
OH wow - look at that nest! I love the photos, old castles and buildings fascinate me - and how lovely to get to meet fellow xangans! I am glad you all had a wonderful time

Such beautiful pictures! What a wonderful experience for all!
Clara
Worried about being French? Open up to us, advice given on all sort of conerns by three wonderful heads.
beautiful
absolutely beautiful
Merci pour les photos, monsieur.
So pretty.
J'aime l'Europe!

Beautiful pictures! I see you had a wonderful time!

What wonderful photos you have shown to us Michel
I of course have been to the old town of Strasbourgh which is beautiful , its just a pity that other parts of the city are not as lovely . I wish we had got out into the countryside when we were there .
So BBoflight got to meet such a lovely couple , she was very lucky which you can tell from her smile in the photo
Will you be my travel agent? hee The only places here that look like that are in amusement parks (like Disneyland). How wonderful your site is. I get to visit all of France and Germany from my computer. Maybe someday in real life.
thanks!...t
The village definately has charm. I love the architecture of the buildings. Those narrow streets are so neat. Lovely indeed.
I would love to visit Alsace someday. Thank you so very much for sharing the pictures!
Michel, I started taking French class this year and one of the reasons I did was because I loved reading your xanga. :D
Those are beautiful pictures.
I agree with you, Michel, that village was magical! How beautiful the flowers and the buildings are! I am sure that you had a wonderful time.
Thank you for the information about the little mouse who comes for the baby teeth. I told the children about that and they were charmed! Here the children put their teeth under their pillow and the tooth fairy brings them money. This is sometimes difficult for the "fairy" who needs a deeply sleeping child before attempting to make the switch! Leah did well at the dentist and was rewarded by a visit from the fairy last night.
What a beautiful city. I love the pictures of the storks!! How funny and yet how cool!
Oh that was absolutely BREATHTAKING! I would love to visit there someday. It looks like such a beautiful city. Would love to live there too.
Thank you for sharing!
That looks like so much fun! I love the storks!
Nice place! Thanxs for the pictures!...but pictures never beats seeing the real thing!
I'm gonna see France with my own eyes some day!
beautiful, Michel
Those little villages are so neat! That would be a pretty picture for Mom to paint don't you think? Maybe I can talk her in to it after she gets some of the other things that she wants to paint finished.
I'll tell the truth, I thought storks were mythical and carried babies to expectant parents. I didn't know they were a real bird. I feel really ...unsmart.
"Other view" would make a nice painting.
2 very cute couples in the last picture.
I once blew the chance to spend a year studying art in Strasbourg. I've kicked myself ever since. Awesome pictures. Thanks.
Eguisheim un 23 juillet avec vous ! = INOUBLIABLE !
Michel, it seems that we both share a love for the charming villages in Europe. This one is especially beautiful.
You seem like a happy person. I wish my life to be as fruitful and meaningful as yours.
Such beauty ! Thank you for sharing Michel.
love and hugs fancy
Tu m'as demande' quel sport je pratique.
Bonne journee!
tres belle village!
tres beau village haha

Please let me tell you I am admiring the culinary compétences of carlo
In your photo of the chapel with pink sandstone you didn't mention the roof - but it is so beautiful! The pattern on it reminds me also of some Native American weaving. Hmmm... maybe it needs to be in something beaded, too...
~Paloma
Yes Palomita the roof of the chapel and of the castle are covered by glazed tiles with a geometrical pattern . One finds that in any old buildings in France . It ' s wonderful . But I cannot say the all in only one blog !
...ah, just like the card you sent me!!! WoW. Please accept my apology for being so delayed in thanking you for your thoughtfulness. It was a welcomed surprise.
Warm hugs,
MuSe
...great pics Michele! How wonderful you met BB - she too has sent me cards and we, now and then, keep in touch.
...Alsace looks like a fairyland. Marvelous pic of storks. Is there a high birth rate in Alsace.
PS: You're looking well my friend. M
The picture of the storks is remarkable. So clear, and they seem to like having a picture taken.
Wonder ful trip and I am hoping, still yet, to meet some of our Xanga friends. It looks like a gret time was had by all.
love and hugs from work (in a rush today),
Deb
p.s. I am usually not working on Wednesdays but came in to help today as things have been quite busy.
How incredibly lovely! What a great photographer you are, capturing the villiage and its glories. How fun to meet another xangan! Please come by and visit more!
Michel- these are beautiful pictures and it looks like a lovely vacation.. I love the storks too... also the brick roads and all the homes with the flowers at their windows too.. thank you for sharing them..
What a wonderful trip! The photographs are fantastic, and I just love the colourful flowerboxes hanging from all the windowsills. And meeting another Xangan must have been the icing on the cake.
I love your storks...we don't get them here. How amazing to see such a large nest on a rooftop!
Oh how lovely! (Thanks, too, for asking about me. I was not affected by the hurricane as I live in South Florida. However, my brother lives near where the hurricane struck and spent last weekend volunteering by removing downed trees.)
BEAUTIFUL!!! I especially love the PT Cruiser in the first shot! I HAVE a car like that!
It truly IS a lovely village! The storks are like a fairy tale come true!
Wow...
What an enchanting village. I love the storks on the roof. We have a small town in Southern California called Solvaang...it is created with buildings that look a great deal like the original ones in your pictures and they have mock storks on the roof. Nice that you met BBof Light...she no longer posts or I have lost her address...You share so many lovely things including your dear Janine. Love to you both
Nancy
Beautiful villa!!!
The views are enchanting and your wife looks really happy and peacefully. It is nice that you got to meet BBofLight, it's always so much fun and excitement to meet those to whom we talk over the net!!! So much expectation and fun and it's like if you already knew them.
I am always so thrilled to read about your adventures, you sure do how to live life and appreciate all things around you, from a small bird to the majestic mountains.
God bless you and I hope your health is behaving!!!
Love, Xally
tiens! quels beaus photos! quand j'etais dans l'alsace, c'etait tres beau aussi!
or something like that.
Ummm....just keep the storks over there for a while. We need babies...but we need timing too.
Michel, these photos are really nice. what a pretty village! almost feel like travelling to this place.
Thanks for your wishes.
I just love Europe with all its history ,nothing like it over here ,so I do enjoy seeing places i have not seen before. That is the main thing I miss about England the scenery and the old houses and castles. Still I doubt there will ever be anything get really old in Australia because they pull it all down and put up modern stuff such is life in this upside down world Love Marjie

looks like a fun time! what beautiful photos. I've never seen storks before except in cartoons!

I love those storks! I always love and look forward to your entries.
travelling is one of my many passion. a passion i have yet to accomplish
wonderful pictures
I would love to see the Paris, most especially the Eiffel Tower, and I hope to make it someday soon! And maybe then, if you'll have me, I'll stop in for a visit! =]
My goodness! I wish I could speak and write French!! My little rant had nothing to do with translation. I hope I didn't offend you. You translate wonderfully.
Hello ~ I got your message. Yes, I do love my garden. It is a source of peace for me. I use my Xanga site as a garden journal or notebook. I love primroses. Right now I have yellow evening primroses, but I will surely get more! I have a trial upgrade and will try to scan pictures to post. I haven't learned how to use my digital camera yet. I would love to post pictures of my children. And my garden.
Your family is beautiful and your pictures are interesting to look at. The pictures your grand children created are so sweet. The bright primary colors in the sea picture are uplifting and the colors in Sarah's are very soothing and comforting aren't they? Her sky is so way up high as to say, like the birds ~ it can't be reached! I think her colors would make a nice textile. Perhaps someday she'll design!
It was nice to hear from you
Lynn
Dear Michel ~hugs~ thank you for your supportive comments- very much appreciated. We are going to be alright - we HAVE to. So, its head down and into the clean up again. And time for the wonderful distraction of visiting around Xanga - time out.
Beautiful photos - thanks for sharing. Libby
What a gorgeous village! France has many pretty places to visit. The pink sandstone and colourful flowers really do seem to stand out nicely! I love the look of the hotel and the church as well. I don't think I have ever seen a stork's nest before.
How wonderful that you met up with another Xangan! It looks like you all enjoyed getting together.
Enjoy your Friday, my friend!
man...this is amazing....what a great gift sharing...
Those buildings are just awesome
...
now that is the MAGIC KINGDOM. how great to meet xanga pals face to face. you are so interesting.
I love how you share your wonderful adventures with the rest of us Xangans! We are blessed to be able to share in them.
I am in love with the pink sandstone buildings! It looks like a beautiful place to visit.
I do hope that all has been well with you, as I was not quite so well last weekend, but I am doing much better now. Do continue to post lovely pictures, but also keep us updated on your well-being!

Hope you are doing alright, Michel. I missed everyone and their smiles.

What a pretty, pretty village, Michel!
I just love the cobble stone streets and beautiful flower window boxes.
I don't blame you and Janine for enjoying visiting this lovely place!
How wonderful you met a fellow Xangan, and her husband.
This is a lovely picture of you all here, Michel.
Yes. It is sad. Very.
those are beautiful pictures.
What a wonderful trip its sounds like you had. And by the looks of your pictures, I am sure you are the envy of many people for being able to visit such a gorgeous place. Needless to say, I am envious. I can only say that I have dreamt of visiting such a place of abundunt beauty and history. I appreciate your pictures. It helps me to feel like I have "seen" some of the places int he world of which I dream
I am very impressed with the storks. I too, have never seen one in person. How lucky it would be to have one's home on top of such a lovely and high building. And have such a window of the world.
Big hugs to you Michel
Sarah
Village spectaculaire!
It looks like the 2 couples are having a lovely visit. I must be fabulous to see storks like that. Such large nests! I am glad people protect the birds instead of thinking them pests.
Those buildings are wonderful; the jaunty hotel, the houses bedecked with flowers, the beautiful church with the decorated roofs. What a splendid place to visit! Thanks for taking us along.
What a lovely pictures! The place is awesome beautiful! How I dreram to be there someday. The storks are cute..they have their share of the beautiful spot..worth it because they add beauty on it. Thanks for sharing! And it's such a great joy to meet another xangan..I hope I can meet some in person someday. So many hopes & dreams I have but as long as I live I'll keep on hoping & dreaming
May you have a wonderful weekend!
onella

This grouping of photographs is an outstanding set. It looks like the weather was perfect!
The soil in our garden is a black clay, very very heavy, and refered to around here as 'black gumbo' (gumbo is a thick african stew made with okra) One local town sells their very fine clay soil all around the world to be used as a lubricant for drilling into the earth.
It is a nightmare to garden in. It is so very heavy when wet and like a brick when dry, there is just one or two days in between where one can dig.
Hope you will post your tomato photos soon. Thank you for the travel pictures. I love seeing all your photographs.
much love, Anna
hey michel
beautiful photographs. My resolution this year (if I haven't told you already) is to travel as much as I can, but I'm hoping to be able to spend a year in Europe sometime in the future so I can actually immerse myself in the place
As for the schedule of the RNC, I hope they don't keep up to the schedule I posted - it's actually a joke about Bush's politics
love, anu
thank you for the peek into your adventures
OMG... I want to go there with my camera. BEAUTIFUL
Just wanted to say thank you for your wishes.
Hope you are having/had a great weekend!
I have read in books about Alsace and that region of France (often desired by Germany). In fact there was a very stirring story in the reading book I used with my 5th grade class about Alsace. In the story, Germany has gained rule of Alsace and the school children are told that they may not speak or do their lessons in French after that day. Never that I can remember have I seen photographs of Alsace. What a charming place to enjoy a vacation.
Your frined, Carol Suzanne
Bonjour, Michel.
I always enjoy it when you share pictures with us. They are always so delightful and go hand-in-hand with your blog. Amazing post...I enjoyed it immensely.
I want to thank you for your kind words during my illness. I am still very sick. I am having to be on pain pills right now. I hope to find out very soon what is wrong with me.
I hope that you have a great week, friend.
Wha!! ça m'a l'air bien beau l'Alsace !!

I always enjoy your photos and the history of the places you visit. Thank you for posting them.

Looks like a wonderful place to visit or even to stay. Have great day and a wonderful tomorrow ! ! ! Much love and many hugs ! ! ! You and Janine sleep with the angels and wake up fully rested and ready for a new day ! ! ! ! ! !
Those are some nice pictures. But we've gotta talk about religion.
Thank you for the sharing the pictures. Its really cool to see places you never been and will probably never ever see. Thanks for sharing. Looked like you all had a good time.
Magnifique blog, cher Michel !

I have been reading your blogs through my subscriptions at my site. I have missed so much in not seeing your wonderful pictures. What a beautiful country you live in.
The buildings are beautiful. I love the designs on the roof. There are so many flowers there. The French really know how to grow things.
Love
Edie Rose
What a beautiful, charming place. I WANT TO VISIT THERE!
