  • 60ème anniversaire de l 'Opération " Overlord "  6Juin 1944

60th anniversary of the operation Overlord  6th June 1944

On this Sunday in the afternoon I watched at the TV the report of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the landing operations " overlord " of the allied forces on the 6th of June 1944 in Normandy ( France ) . There were more than 1500 veterans coming from the countries involved and 14 queen, kings , presidents whom the President of the USA , the Queen of United Kingdom , the Russian President etc ......and the German Chancelor . All of them were invited by the French President Jacques Chirac . I confess I was very moved to see those veterans who knew that they probably wont be there at the 70 th anniversary .  All of those courageous men were happy to be there but  sad in the same time . The Queen of  Great Britain was very moved too . She and her parents have been very courageous during the war under the bombing . I thought also of  my friend , the Canadian soldier that I hnew in September 1944 .( I already blogged  some times about this moving story )
This celebration has also sealed the French - German reconciliation definitively . We are brothers , Mr Chirac said .  Mr Bush and Chirac agreed France and USA were allied since the birth  of the United States of America ..

ps : In the same time we were informed of the death of the President Reagan

  • Yes indeed...without the help of our wonderful French brothers and sisters, I don't think we could have won against the Brits during the Revolution....Merci!
