  • Vendredi - Saint dans un village de France .

Good Friday in a village of France .

On the last Good Friday , the 18th of April 2003 , I attended the Way of the Cross in a small village by Amiens ( Picardy , France ) . It was outside .

Une des stations    One of the stations                 photo by Michel Fauquet April 2003

The 14 stations relating the Passion , the death and the entombment of Christ were figured by small wooden white- painted crosses planted on the side of a steep street . We stopped at every station to hear the scriptures and pray

Walking on a street of the village gave us the impression not only of a commemoration but also of an event in the present time in our personal life or in the international events . The responsability of the death of Jesus ? The response was : every time in the past or nowadays when one destroyes the friendship , when the powerful ones despise the poor and take advantage of them , one kills Jesus

Au Calvaire       At the Calvary       photo Michel Fauquet April 2003

After the way of the Cross we went to the huge Calvary , monument erected on the high of the village . Christ ,  eternal poor , eternal loser has been crucified such a robber . He will triumph on the third day after ( Easter ). Death whatever your forms where is your victory ? For the Christians the Cross is a sign of hope of life and not of death .. How much it is awful one has killed under its name during the history !

I thank my readers who left comments or e.mails of encouragment during my break .

  • Welcome back!!! Good to see you blogging again. I hope that you have caught up on some of the work that you had to do.

I enjoyed your entry and pictures. It is interesting to read about the way things are done in different countries.

In NH, we do go outside to have our Easter service. We stand by a beautiful overlook site, where we can view the valley and mountains. We all hold a lit candle during the service. I think it makes you feel closer to God in a natural setting.

    Have a great week.

You are SO lucky to be there!

Good to see you back and I hope you had a good break. I enjoy reading your blogs!

  • Tres interessant.  Glad you have returned.

  • The time of the Passion in the Church is always a joyfull renewal.  The stations always made me feel so much closer to the answer of our Christ.  I am no longer a devout church goer.  Divorce..other things that have kept me away...but my heart still celebrates the mysteries

  • I'm so glad to see you back!

I hope your break was a good one. Everyone deserves a rest now and then don't they? I also hope you are ready to entertain us with your charming blogs! I have missed you my friend!

    Please take care of yourself!

  • It is one of the most touching rituals of the catholic church. It is a nice way of remembering the sacrifice of Christ.

Thanks for posting again a wonderful blog.

    Carlo

  • That's beautiful. I think that's a much more memorable way to spend Easter. It's good to see you back!

  • welcome back ...we missed you.

    what lovely pictures....so quaint!

  • Dear Michel, welcome back to the fold. I am sure you found that service at Picardy most enlightening . I immediately thought of the song 'Roses are blooming in Picardy'. The times I heard that as a child were many. I notice you have a little notice at the top of your site saying All people and things are interesting, can you add but not slugs, because I don't think they are interesting, although I presume they have a link in the food chain for some insect or animal. LOL hoping that means laughing, although it could mean Lots of Love which is equally applicable in your case. Golly this sounds like a love letter Cheers Marjie

  • how u understand both French and English so well!
    im taking Frech right now!
but i can barely read some 20 Frech words

  • Il me fait plaisir à te revoir... c'est bien que tu t'as reposé. C'est important. Oh, my brain is not functioning in French right now . So-->English. It sounds like you have had a thoughtful and spiritual Easter. I'm glad to see you back.

  • Dear friend, welcome back.  You have been missed.

Thank you for the pictures and explanation of the Stations of the Cross.  I am not Catholic, so I have not understood their meaning.  It seems to me that your experience would have been very moving and meaningful.

  • An experience of the heart..... So glad you are back.

  • michel!!! bienvenue~!!!! we missed you! (nous vous manquons, c'est correcte?)

  • That looked like a good day on Good Friday - they have the same kind of Easter celebrations over in Malta where my sister-in-law lives. (I recall my mother and I visiting and seeing the celebrations one year.)

My brother uses - or used (as I don't hear from him anymore) - computer glasses...I believe that they do protect your eyes from the glare somewhat. I have heard that you can buy them in supermarkets like Wal-mart...but I haven't seen them anywhere yet.

As for my neighbour...he really lives too far removed from my property to actually call him a neighbour. The thing that really annoyed me was that we were not causing any trouble - I try to get along with everyone that I meet. (He is very anti-social.) I believe the reason is that he has many, many dogs living around him in all directions - and they bark constantly. I guess I understand why he reacted the way that he did, but I still believe that there is a right and a wrong way to ask people anything - and the wrong way gets you nowhere. (I am not a vindictive man - and I have forgotten the incident now...but I still don't think he was right to talk to me the way that he did - but that he his problem now.)

It's good to hear from you again.

  • Welcome Home Michel.. I have surely missed you .. what a beautiful blog.. touching my heart deeply.. Again.. thank you for sharing such beauty with us!!! Good to have you back.. hugs.. and love.. Rose

  •   Bonjour Michel! En septembre ma course a francaise recommencer.// See, I need to study more! I just love to read your xanga site. You share important things with your heart, pictures and the french language. You talk about things that speak to my heart, you are a true and intersting person and I am glad to be able to share this. Thank you for showing us your world in France.   France

  • Michel, in my above posting, I was speaking from my heart and forgot that I was on xanga. I signed my real name, so just to clarify its...France.

I'm sure this now explains in another part why I am drawn to your site.

  • The pictures and rituals are lovely. I wish the whole world would take them to heart and always remember that Jesus is LOVE. You were missed and I am glad to see your return.

    Love,

    Brenda

  • All is risen when death has no meaning.

  • Welcome back!!!! I too took a break from Xanga, but it was because my computer crashed! I have missed reading your blogs and seeing your beautiful pictures!

  • I'm so glad to see that you're back!!

Those are beautiful pictures of Good Friday commemoration.   It is indeed tragic that killing has taken place in the name of the Christian Cross.

    (((hugs)))

    Lisa

  • Bienvenue!

  • the way of the cross

    always leads to

    the way of Spirit..
    a way of no pain..
    just Love!

so moving to witness the beauty of people coming together in Faith! thank you dear Michel

    love,
    Jude

  •  I love your pic. You live in a beautiful country.

  • It's very good to see you back Michel.  Thank you for sharing your Easter Pilgrimmage.

  • You are always so kind Michel. To answer your question. Actually no relation except for the quest for freedom as in the science fiction movie The Matrix, (parts one and two soon) which the picture is from.

    Love Brenda

  • Yay, you're back!!!  Welcome back M. Fauquet!!!  Again, wonderful pictures, thank you for sharing!

  • What a moving experience!

  • Michel, you took it personally and you weren't meant to!  I seem to have a habit of putting things the wrong way to you so it sounds like I am slightly flaming you and I'm not, honestly.

I am not one of those weirdos who read sites purely for the pleasure of being critical. I read them purely for pleasure. Full stop.  If a site pisses me off, I just don't read it!  Life is too short....

And I love your site.  As does everyone else
