    - plantés ; fraisiers 1 rangée
    - plantée : laitue 1 rangée
    - plantés : oignon blanc 1 rangée
    - plantés : petits bulbes d ' oignons jaunes 6 rangées
    - plantées échalote ( bulbes ) 6 rangées ;
    - semés    poireaux 4 rangées
    - semées : carottes 6 rangées .
    - semés :   pois 6 rangées .
    - semée : laitue une demi - rangée
    - semé : persil 2 rangées
    - plantées : pommes de terre 12 rangées .

    Maintenant j ' attends une petite pluie pour que tout cela pousse ;

The lawn ( half )

Pleasure at the vegetable garden .

On the last week I have worked very much in the vegetable garden . I love the garden . I have got there a feeling of space and liberty . I don' t know if the pictures will express well that ..

The first picture shows at first the half of our lawn with its trees and its bedflowers where the tulips are starting to bloom .. At the end the vegetable garden is standing . It is shown on the second picture .

I dug the ground at hand before the winter in improving it with compost . Then it has been dug again with a machine two weeks ago . It looks naked excepted some leeks that passed the winter in place . However take stock of the situation at the 30th of march :

    - planted strawberry plants 1 row
    - planted lettuce 1 row
    - planted white onions 1 row
    - planted small bulbs of yellow onions 6 rows
    - planted bulbs of shallot 6 rows
    - sown    leeks 4 rows
    - sown    carrot 6 rows
    - sown    peas 6 rows
    - sown    lettuce half a row
    - sown   parsley 2 rows
    - planted potatoes 12 rows .

Now I am waiting for a small rain in order all of that starts to grow .

There is a little of work but so much joy in the vegetable garden , and also the pleasure to produce the vegetables that we eat .

A day at the garden ? Sing it with Henry Purcell ( 1659 - 1695 ) ; " Thus Nature rejoicing , has shown us the way , with innocent revels to welcome the day . The tuneful grove , and the talking rill , the laughing vale , replying hill , with charming harmony unite , this happy season to invite " ( excerpt of the Ode for the Birthday of Queen Mary , 1694 . )

  • Soon it will be warm, and the pleasure of having your hands in the warmth of the Earth makes up for all the hard work. indie

  • What a lovely garden. I hope it yields a bountiful harvest for you this year.

  • what a beautiful yard and garden :)

    *hugs*

  • Good Morning, Michel. These pictures fill me with envy, I can hardly wait to see my crocus and daffodils in bloom. It was only 24 degrees Fahrenheit here this morning, with another two or three inches of fresh snow that fell overnight.

You have such a beautiful, large garden area. I bet all of your hard work will pay off later. All that beautiful compost that you added will certainly make a difference. It will be another 2 months before we can plant here-the end of May. Which makes me wonder-how long is your growing season?

Have a great week, and enjoy that gardening!

    Love,

    Edie Rose

you're working very hard. please take care of your health too~!!

  • Wow... waht a beautiful picture... you have certainly been working very hard on it... it will pay off... take care

Jardinage heureux, mon ami!

  • I have just been speaking to Mum who has been in her garden working today too . It must so lovely to grow your own veg Perhaps you should get the rain that we are going to have tomorrow . I cannot believe it no rain for 3 weeks , my plants need the rain as well

  • Notice we English  are in CET this week until your clocks go forward

  • you have been so hard at work, and it looks like everything has paid off so far!  you have a very beautiful garden.    ~Amy

  • ...Michel, you're a man of accomplishment. I remember your toil of last autumn in preparation for this year's crop.
...i share your sentiment and adventure in the garden, its a labour in peace and uniting with nature's purpose. You did well in planting, the garden is so neat and tidy. Surely your harvest will reflect your care and skill.
...are those cherry blossoms I see to the right in second picture? Reminds me of a favourite photo of you from last year. The pic of you picking cheeries.
...your weather is ahead of mine. Too early for planting here but enjoy the preview of things to come.
...take care of YOU as you would the garden, Michel. Amity, MuSe

  • My, such a beatifully layed out garden. It evidently gives you much joy to get out to work in our creators wonderful earth. I will be working in our yard today. The leaves need to be taken off my flower beds, as the new plants are bginning to peak through. Thank you for sharing your lovely yard and garden with us.

  • 'Tis simply BEAUTIFUL!!! And the soil looks so RICH!!! The plants themselves will rejoice at the goodness of being placed in the ground!

    I absolutely love your yard!

    Kelly

  • Your garden puts mine to shame.  LOL

I have guavas, coconuts, limes, oranges, mangos, lemon grass and wild sage in my garden.  To be honest, its all wild, except the guavas (they were spat out seeds) and someone must have grafted the mango tree at some time.

At the bottom of the garden are carob and tamarind trees, but we haven't been able to get down there for years.

I admire your industry   Hope the weather smiles on you.

  • You cultivate your garden/live very well. They say that the garden is like life, you have to sow goodwill and peace to recolte a rich harvest.

    Have a nice day

    Carlo

  • the green is so vibrant...

  • What hard work on your garden! I think a lot of people enjoy their gardening a lot this time of year because it reminds that spring and summer are on the way and winter is over... which I'm happy about!! =)

  • Wow, Beau travail ! Belle terre

  • What a lovely garden!!!  Its wonderful to have fresh vegetables from the garden during the summer months.

  • Wow!  Your garden looks wonderful!!  It makes me want to get out there and plant!  We bought some tomato plants this weekend.  Now, we just have to decide where to plant them.  Don't you just love Spring!?!

  • I like how you start your entry in french.  It helps me practice what I learned and helps me to practice comprehension.  And that is a beautiful graden, you have great botanical talent.  =D

  • can you feel it?  spring knocking.  wish my hands were as green as yours.

  • Michel, what can i say about that..... I am smiling here, touched by this wonderful views, and imagining the pleasure you have got in doing it... Proud... that is a good word!

    Congratulations...

  • Wonderful peaceful pic of your yard and garden..... I have this sudden urge to go out and try planting one now.....

  • I envy your garden. I used to tend one, but nothing like yours! My body won't let me do it anymore.

  • Yippee only 28 in front. Your garden is indeed lovely I am no gardener but my husband is he has photos of all the houses we have lived in of befores and afters so you and he would get on well as far as Gardening is concerned. That was a nice little song, I looked at a religious hour on T.V. Sunday and it was all about hymns and who had written them and why. I was surprised when he gave the name of one, I thought I don't know that but as they played it it was 'I want to be a pilgrim' or some such thing and it took me back to my school Church where we used to sing this, He said it was taken from a country song and based on John Milton's 'Pilgrims Progress' .I hope I got all those names right as they said about so many. I was waiting for non existent phone calls and Sundays in Oz are religion and other boring stuff on A.B.C and sport on all other channels and I couldn't even come on here. Not that I am saying Religion is boring, it can be quite interesting. I mean the other things they put on. There was a young English girl who has been singing hymns since she was 3 and she had a marvellous voice, trouble is I can't think of her name now. Keep up the good work and I hope your garden flourishes. Love marjie

  • That looks great, I have been working in my yard trying to get it ready for summer, I am thinking about planting some tomatos in my yard. I hope they will grow for me. I wish I have frest Strawberrys in my yard. Have a wonderful day my friend.

    Amitie, Kelly xx

  • I love your garden; I don't know what you think, but I believe that a "feeling of space and liberty" is shown in it! Oh, I miss tulips so much, too! I used to live in Germany, and we had lots of tulips and I remember the tulips in Holland, too...I wish I had some here, but those kind of flowers do not grow well here in this tropical environment.
I might try to begin speaking French when I comment on your posts; please excuse all of the errors that I am sure I will make. I am still very much a beginner, but I want to be ambitious and practice it. Is that okay?
:) I always love to see your beautiful pictures. I will try to include some in my next post.

  • how nice!

    i can't understand French

but im taking French class now !

so i know a little, i mean really little French!!

    lol..

  • What a tremendous undertaking.  Lots of work and love goes into your garden.  Fresh vegetables from ones own garden taste so much sweeter.  We have little warmth here to grow vegetables and little yard   Must try my hand at repotting the strawberry pot.  We once had a crop of eight all at the same time   What a wonderful thing you have there and your space is lovely

  • ahh wonderful My vege garden gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction too. There is something totaly puristic and soul lifting about growing and providing your own food. I so love to go and pick straight from the garden to the table. It feels sooooooo good. And - for so little effort too....I plant Marigolds in amongst my rows to help keep the bugs away. and it works too

  • Yumm.  Fresh vegetables are wonderful   Enjoy your garden.

  • It snowed here.

  • looks wonderful, michel! it looks like it's going to be a summer of hard work and plenty of rewards :)

  • gorgeous!  i know how nice it is to eat a meal that you prepared for yourself, but i can only imagine the joy that you get knowing you actually produced the food through your own hard work!  that's great.

  • Just like how my father's garden was - very neat and tidy.  You can't beat home grown vegetables and fruit.

  • i think it will be a wonderful garden, michel!!! fresh garden vegetables are the very best sort! the ones from the supermarket are never as tasty! sadly we have too many slugs and they always eat everything we trie to grow!

("I'm still dependent on the dictionary", not sure i got that sentence right...

    p.s.

    j'aime ton jardin! c'est beau

    ... and i love strawberries!!!

  • Your garden is like an empty canvas with the colors ready to be applied. My poor little terrace garden needs some loving attention. I would love to have an olive tree there, but I understand that our climate is wrong for the tree.  Now I have one rosemary bush, an evergreen tree, and a few transplanted english ivy vines.

  • I'd love to have a vegetable garden! Lovely photos Michel . My father used to grow lots of vegetables as you do

The canine complex...is a place where we show and trial our dogs..not easy to explain to someone that doesn't do this . A wealthy man that used to be a big part of our "dog world" here, left this ground to the canine council after his death.

  • Michel - I live in the Caribbean, on a small small island, on the slopes of a rainforest.  I used to really love gardening.  I used to have flowers and veg. but we had a two-year plague of snails (after a two-year over abundance of wonderful butterflies) and I gave up.

I still have amaryllises though and many wild flowers, different morning glories, also the white cedar tree with its beautiful big pink flowers, and sometimes I have sunflowers, pumpkins, tomatoes even potatoes from throwing out the kitchen waste into the garden.  Everything grows....

    But nothing is orderly.

  • Your garden is always so ambitious and with such a variety.....but it looks like you have a bigger yard that I do, as well.

I have been doing my spring gardening and spending as much time in my yard as I can, too. We only planted tomatoes and peppers this year, and of course more flowers for the butterflies.

It is good for the mind and body to garden. Enjoy!

  • Your vegetable garden is very beautiful and it certainly sounds like you've been working very hard to make it that way! I love strawberries, I'm sure they'll taste wonderful :) By the way, happy April Fool's Day! We learned about how the French celebrate it yesterday in French class and how it used to be celebrated as New Years Day. My teacher gave us little fish that say "Happy April Fool's Day" in French to stick on peoples backs as pranks :) hehe, lets hope I don't get caught doing it!
I hope all is well with you as I haven't heard from you lately. Happy new month :)
    Much love and God bless!
    ~OxOxSavannahxOxo~

  • Inspiring.  I just moved into a new house with a big backyard and plenty of sunshine.  I can't wait to enjoy some plants of my own.

  • The care and devotion to your lawn and garden is very apparent through your photographs.  Wonderful!  My Dad and his family always kept a garden, I should do the same some day.  And Purcell is one of my favorite composers of the Baroque era.  Cheers, Neil

  • Wish i could get something like that to grow in my yard. . I have a nice bunch of crab grass going though. .

  • It's a wonderful sight! I can see big bowls of salad coming from your garden already.. yummmmm!!!! And fresh bouquets every day. Gardening sounds so much fun. You are blessed with a very big garden and I look forward to seeing the fruits of your hard labor. Happy gardening!

Your quote of Maria Montessori is interesting. I wonder if the great Peter Drucker has borrowed his quote from her?

  • Julie rang me last night and I told her I had been doing a " Michel " my new name for gardening I knew it was going to rain today so I planted the shrubs I got for Mother's Day, a vibernum and one unnamed plant ? then I planted an acer and hydrangea that had been in tubs and ended up stiff and sore so I will not " michel " for a few days now as wielding a spade doen't suit me.

  • Wow! So pretty!! I love Gardening too. There is something wonderful about planting seeds and watching them bloom into flowers and veggies - it's very relaxing! Thank you for sharing the pictures!! Hugs C~

  • All of the vegatble will be delicious I'm sure! what a lovely garden, I miss having land to work with- it's so relaxing and rewarding

  • Your lawn makes me want to kick off my shoes and run around barefoot and turn circles! You have done a lovely job!

  • Yesterday I could not get into Xanga, so I am quite late in commenting on your beautiful garden.  What a joy to work in the earth and see the results in beautiful flowers and a fine harvest of vegetables.  Unfortunately I do not have a place for vegetables as my yard is very small.  I do have many flowers already in bloom as we have had quite a bit of warm weather.

  • WOW... you have worked hard, that looks wonderfull. We have spring now and I actually cut some stuff back in the garden, But I started to sweat so that was the end of that...LOL... For NOW!!!

    TC my friend!!

  • Charmed {*_*}

    Puck - the mischievous spirit!

  • i WANT TO RUN BEARFOOT ON THE GRASS! i LOVE THE SMELL OF FRESHLY CUT GRASS.  THE SMELL OF BROWN EARTH WARMED BY THE SUN. aahhh! DEEP BREATH~~~~~~~~~~   @-}-}----

  • Michel it's beautiful! There is nothing closer to nature than a garden! Don't you agree? What a lovely green and your land holds you close I can feel it. Hugs.

  • it's so beautiful. my backyard is full of weeds and is all dry and yellow. very ugly..i wish our land could grow strawberries. i love strawberries :3

  • Salut Michel!  Ta pelouse and jardin me cause d'etre jalouse!

  • Oh my dear Michel!  You and your garden I do so envy.  This is the first year in a long time that I have not even started a garden.  I miss it so.  But it is already to hot for me to enjoy it, if I did.  It looks and sounds like a wonderful garden.  I would so enjoy in reaping in the harvest.  I also love the tune or poem that went with.  Just wonderful.  As for the antibiotics for my bronchitis.  That is the z-pack as they call it.  Actually it is zythromyacin.  You take it for 5 or 6 days and it stays in your system and keeps working for  a full 10 days.   I am trying to be more prudent with my meds.  It is just so hard for me.  I never have been a sick person, and I hate medicines.  When I first get them, I am usually pretty good at taking them.  But then I get lax and all together forget them.  I am bad, I know.  But I am trying to do better.  Have a great day and a wonderful tomorrow! ! ! !   Much love and many hugs! ! ! !   I am back off to bed ! !

  • Oh, my dear friend, I so love your back yard and garden....lush earth, rich soil, thoughts of good food coming from your own efforts. Ahhhhh....life is good! I would play classical music as well. Maybe a little of Pachelbel's Canon in D? (it is my favorite)

  • Michel,

Yes, the pics show it well and I am now homesick to have a garden to tend myself!  I love watching the things grow and eating them later is wonderful!!

I hope to take photos this summer of a few things I may have time to grow while we are in Ohio.

            Hugs,

                    Deb

  • Can I move in with you? I sure wish my yard looked like that. I love living in the city, but those pictures made me homesick for the country. Your garden is indeed lovely. -Kate

  • The French Islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique are even more of a dream, Michel.  The Carib Indian name for Martinique is Madinina, Island of Flowers...

  • Your lawn and your garden are beautiful! I do not enjoy gardening, although my husband does. I do love eating the fresh vegetables. There is nothing better! Have many happy hours in your garden!

  • That is soooo pretty, and it's so cool that I could read the french and understand (a tiny) bit of it.. you have a beautiful place, ah now i had better go study for the francais exam..

  • Sing along with Purcell, oh no I would be too out of tune. He has been dead for too long, but his work lives on. It would be nice to be a rabbit in your garden, rabbit heaven I do know that strawberry plants are great to grow. Lovely garden.{{ sigh }}

  • as they say, michel, a picture can speak a thousand words. i belive that the pictures illustrates your love for your garden but it's the heart that truly speaks. and the eyes. they never lie.

either ways, i can see the dedication you put into your gardening. it expresses clearly how you feel. wish we could have the ability to do some fruit gardening here. too bad our soil is too hard but we have lots of rain. hehe..

  • How did I not discover your site before?!?  Beautiful.  I am a gardener and love it when others share the beauty of their's.  I can just about feel the dirt between my fingers and smell it.  Thanks for a providing a blog that appeals to ALL the senses!!

  • Oh it looks awesome...Michel..you are my idol of great living.

  • Your garden looks wonderful!  I can't wait until the weather is right to plant one also.  It will be my first "true garden" and not just tomatoes.  Good luck!

  • Michel my friend... TC means "Take Care"

And once again I wish for you to TC

(and no, there are no poppies out yet, I don't know why they put a poppy on for April lol)

  • The soil looks so black and rich!  Here we have red clay, which is okay until we have a drought - it becomes a brick.   I have gardened most of my life, and there is a certain sense of accomplishment when you reap the fruits of your labor!

  • I used to grow a vegetable garden when I was back in England - I grew potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce, bell peppers, and cucumbers...and also a few herbs like parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. (I'm not emulating Scarborough fair here - I did actually grow them.)

Since my arrival in the States, I have grown herbs again - as I like to grow herbs. I have just pruned back our sage bush - which I grew from seed a few years back. (I cannot get used to pruning in Spring instead of late Autumn, though.)

Soon now, I have got to treat our back lawn - as we were infested by Japanese Beetles last year...and they nearly stripped our trees bare. So I have got to make sure that the grubs don't hatch out and cause another infestation all over again.

I hope that all is well with you, Michel...

  • That sounds like one heck of a nice garden and the pictures were really nice. You have a great day..

  • The photos of your yard and garden could easily be a painting.
I must wait until May to plant or they will freeze.

  • Wow, that's a lot of work!  Love that deep green of your grass.  I'll try to blow some of my tropical rain your way so your garden starts growing.

  • I will be glad for summer to arrive here.

  • You's a frog. Indeed, names are fun things, as long as your in the good spirits of the change.

  • You are making wonderful progress!  I hope that we do not have a May frost this spring!

  • What a charming man you are! Thanks for the lovely compliment on my site!

  • (((((Michel)))))  Hi there!  i love looking at your gardens. How nice for you!  Gardening is a wonderful way to relieve stress.

I used to have a huge garden too. In fact, it would be called a truck patch in Pennsylvania ( Where I used to live).  But here in Florida, I plant tomatoes on my porch in pots and gather them for my salads. YUM!

You have a wonder ful weekend and I hope it rains for you.

  • You must find so much solace in your garden.  It really is a joy to walk in your own piece of nature and to put relentless sweat and effort into your vegetables.  Can't wait to see how they blossom in the near future~

  • Xanga: Laisser ce travail de commentaire.

Such potential in your garden right now.

  • such tranquility

  • I planted some sunflower seeds and a few other kinds of flowers.  I also put some others flowers around our trees in our front yard.  Although this probably isn't considered gardening to most it is to me!  I'm just a beginner you know!!

  • Bonjour Michel!

    I'm sorry I haven't commented in so long!  Your garden's really beautiful~  :)

    *emma

  • My grandfather had a little garden in fact he shared his vegetables with everyone in his small town of Vermont. He loved gardening so much that when he passed he was there in his garden amongst his flowers and vegetables. Take care and God Bless you and yours.

  • couldn't disagree with you more. well michel, school starts this wednesday for me. the end to my infinite boredom.

  • Awww I still envy you your garden!  Such a beautiful garden.  You will have to take more pictures as it grows.  I just know it will be beautiful.  Wanted to pop in and send you my love and make sure all was ok there.  Have a great day and a wonderful weekend! ! !   Much love and many hugs ! ! ! ! !   My main Easter animation:

  • that seems like it was a lot of work, but i am sure that your fruits of labor will be grand.

  • Wow! Michel you worked hard and you are right. The price of lettuce is absurd high at the moment - I wished I had a vegetable garden myself

I translated a piece of information, coming from http://www.anthologie.org about the huitain. Very interesting

  • wow seems like alot of work to have a garden, but they are soo lovely!

  • Oh, what joy to be your 100th commenter!!!  What an inspiration, to have seen your garden in pictures and to have your "garden journal entry" to read.  I actually have a garden journal around here someplace, all set for me to start writing in it.  I must prepare a garden first, though!  I have a cousin in Louisiana who grows everything but the meat that she and her husband eat.  It can be done!  More power to you!!!  Hugs, Claudia

  • Beautiful pictures of a beautiful garden.. Have a nice weekend..

  • Wonderful garden!!  My husband enjoys working with the vegetables and fruits much more that I.  I like to be outside and smell the flowers, see the fruit, just BE in the garden.  But I don't enjoy working the garden as much as he does.

  • May you be blessed with fertile soil and no destructive insects.  the greenfly are already attacking my honeysuckle.

I am goint to St Valery en Caux on Wednesday for a three days walking.

    Best regards,  Tom

  • Do you have an herb garden for your lovely wife as well. Dad is the gardner of our family, though I have done so as well, it takes a lot of hard work and patience as well as luck with Mother Nature herself and you have to give credit to the good bugs and woe to the bad ones ha. Plus the critters that love to sneak in while you aren't looking.  I love gardens, yours is lovely.

    Love,

    Brenda

  • I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I had to come back and look at your garden. With the weather being so warm, it makes me want to go out and play in the earth

  • You are sooo very lucky!!  Votre terrain me semble immense! There is such a sense of communion with nature while gardening

  • how beautiful! you'll have a delicious bounty soon

  • Just popping in to check on you my friend! ! ! !  Have a great day and a wonderful tomorrow! ! ! ! !  Much love and many hugs to you all! ! !!

  • *applauds your tilling toil*

You are the epitome of the gentleman farmer!
