Planter les laitues
Planting the lettuces
18 Mars 2015
English version below the picture
I came back home from the physical therapy, a bit exhausted. No one was in the house . I guessed Janine was working in the garden . It is totally forbidden for me to do whatever since my spine surgery last December
I went to the veggie garden . and of course my wife was there, working . She was in the beautiful décor of a garden at the end of the winter, like a cherry on a cake .
She had just planted a row of 24 lettuces bought the day before, made a tunnel of veil to shelter against birds, insects, slugs and to create the best conditions for the growing. On the picture above she is digging around the tunnel the soil where she had been forced to step on,.
At the background of the picture we can see two rows of leeks sown last year and the end of a tunnel sheltering carrots sown last summer ?A la fin nous sommes rentrés à la maison parfumée par l‘odeur divine des poireaux récoltés le matin même et laissés dans l’ entrée de service..
At the end we came back in our home perfumed by a divine smell of leeks harvested in the morning and left in the service entrance . I have to say that the show of the garden with Janine in , the pleasure to see the start of the planting and soon the sowing , the smell of the fresh leeks and the air of the veggie garden made me forget my lower back pain. I hope to be able during the spring to make the works in this garden and elsewhere , perhaps with some help .
Faith lifts the mountains.______________________________________________________________

Faire la soupe
Making the soup
English version below the pictures
After the harvest of the veggies , Janine makes the soup . On the first picture the cooking of the veggies ( leeks, carrots, potatoes ) with water , some salt and celery leaves in a cooker pressure is ended . Janine is mixing the all to make a soup that appears like a liquid more less thick with a inexpressible scent. This soup is called "potage " in French . I have to say in waiting for the delight of the taste I have the delight to watch the lovely home fairy in action in a beautiful festival of richly contrasted colors
Leeks cut for cooking poireaux coupés pour être cuits
The carrots have been prepared .
A plate of soup . Une assiette de potage .
This the basic soup that we eat almost on a daily basis . You want a scientific name for it ? Go for "pulmenti vulgaris" . This being said Janine makes more elitist soups ( with asparagus, yellow pepper, squashes, pumpkins, tomatoes, leeks, onion of course ). I precise all of this because I know some distingueshed chefs cook on Xanga such http://murisopsis.xanga.com/2015/03/14/looking-for-pie/#comments ( for pies ) or again http://saintvi.xanga.com/2015/03/15/pi-day/#comments ( for pies too )I wish you a good appetite, ladies and gentlemen

Praying for healing for you so you can work in the garden later. My friend says she loves to go out and "play in the dirt." Just try not to do too much too soon. I know you won't, and if you want to. Janine will not let you. You do have a beautiful and helpful wife, as you know.
I know you are itching to get in the garden and help - and God willing you will be soon. I hope the physical therapy helps and you are very soon recovered in strength to work in the garden. The leeks are lovely! Leek soup soon?? I am trying to convince my husband to forego the tomatoes this year and plant sweet peas instead...
It's always lovely to see your garden. I hope you recover quickly so you can help your wife.
ahhhh ~ spring!!
Good Afternoon, Michel. Wishing you a full and complete recovery and the restoration of all activities that you love.
The garden is coming along nicely---love the photos.
blessings
frank
Well done to Janine for such hard work. Have you heard of the saying about the " back seat driver " I think you are a " back seat gardener " at the moment
but you do to make sure you are fully recovered
My dear friend Julie ( englishjuls ) asks me if i heard of the saying about the back seat driver and back seat gardener. Look at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back-seat_driver/ and you will see that my friend Julie has a typical and funny English/Irish humour I needed this !
A wonderful life
I was just thinking today of how I am ready to move my tomato plants outdoors, if the weather will hurry up and stabilize.
My son loves leeks... but I've only seen them in the stores. I wish my garden was as organized and useful as yours is. Much love to you and your wonderful gardeners!! <3
What beautiful photos, and what great memories Janine is making in the garden! Gardening is good for the body and soul!
Hope you can work in the garden again soon, Michel! I'm still praying for your complete recovery!
HUGS!!!
So glad you are doing the Physical Therapy. That is so important with backs. Regretfully the mishandled surgery on Knight's back left no room for healing and he would not walk for exercise. Prayers for no pain and healing. Belief in God and determination are a great factor in healing. Love to you and the Beautiful Janine (the garden nymph){v}
Thanks for this fondly comment Nancy. I know you have had a very bitter experience of this with Bruce that no one forget here .
Your a lucky man Michele Fauquet! Continue with the therapy, you'll be back in the leeks before you know it! ilym
Wonderful! I am happy that your garden is embracing the spring with such beauty, both of Janine and the vegetables.
hope the lower back pain goes away soon.

I am very jealous of your soup and your eclipse viewing, I have been reading of the eclipse on the first day of spring for over a month. Sadly I did not read that we wouldn't be able to experience it from my house until yesterday. Imagine my embarrassment having to tell all the people I told to be watching for it that I didn't read all the instructions. I have however experienced a total solar eclipse in 1984, we were not expecting that one and it was quite unsettling. Happy Spring Equinox Mornin Glorie...Enjoy that potage...ilym
She is a beautiful house fairy, indeed, Michel! I hope you are feeling stronger every day. Blessings to you and Janine. <3
Oh how I wish I could have a bowl of that potage!
Do wait as you know what happens when I don't.
Oh my gosh! The potage looks yummy! Janine IS a lovely home fairy indeed!
You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers, Michel!
Love and HUGS to you and Janine!!!
Your soup looks delicious! I'm hooked on potato soup I've made for the past few days.
Soup is my favorite.
I hope you are healing so you can get back out there and dig!and plant! and harvest! and eat!
It sounds delicious and good for your body too. Hopefully you will soon be doing cartwheels again. Well, maybe you never did cartwheels but God bless you with full recovery!
I love potato and leek soup. Had it once in a French restaurant and I have been a slave of that since then. I can imagine how fragrant the home had to have been when Janine made the soup.
When the soup with leeks and potatoes is cooked in the cocotte- minute the smell in the house makes me drunk of well being
I make many soups over the winter, but I've never made leek soup. I'll have to remember to look up the recipe next winter. Now, I am looking forward to putting away the crockpot and uncovering the grill.
The pottage is delicious looking - Common? Never! I am thinking I might just have to make my next vegetable soup that way!! I am flattered that you think my cooking is so fancy!!
The soup looks wonderfu. I haven't had any energy to do much of anything. Still much pain, and still can't bend knee much. PT twice a week is brutal. Have had to let lots of things go. To bad you can email a pint of Janine's soup. Have a wonderful spring with all the flowers showing their beauty. Love to you both. Marilyn
I didn't know that you could grow a winter garden in your climate. I would have thought it was too cold. Here my lettuce is already suffering from the heat. It is growing bitter and tough.
Janine's soup sounds wonderful for a cool spring day. I'm sure she makes it from a recipe in her head.
Bon Jour Michel, my friend who makes me happy.
) who is now gone, and whom I never had enough time with.
In answer to your question on my post:
Hi Michel, Emotional... sometimes thoughts of people I've lost and the things I've lost, and the good memories that either are no more, or never were....
I just wondered if everyone has those moments and what they do with them.....
St. Patrick's day made me think of my father (where I get my Irish from
I've got a son in Taiwan also whom I have not seen since 2010.
Raising my family I thought I had built a close tight family, but we are not together now.... just my oldest daughter.
These things pain me.
Janine's soup looks warming to the heart and soul.
Blessings to you,
Lynn
The scars of the wounds of the heart always remain and cannot be forgotten even if forgiven.
I understand totally now why you always are in pain, Lynn.
Nothing better than a wonderful home made soup made from you down produce in your own garden.
How wonderful Michel.
Ty so very much for your comments on my photo of the ocean in late afternoon. This is one of my fav spots to go and sit.
TY so very much of you kind comments on my photo of the view from the point.
Regarding your comment on my post about the pot shop-i wish it were still illegal here also, especially for recreational use.
Oh, I think I have to figure out how to come there and have some of that wonderful soup!!!!
Hello Michel and good morning.

I will be honored to take this commission.
Hey, Michel!
I left a comment to your comment on my WP site(from Saturday).
HUGS!!!
Ty so very much of your comment on my post of photo of blackberry blossoms. I also look forward to making black berry jam.
Bon appétit! Janine has kept you in good health for more than 80 years. I find you and Janine remarkable people for so many reasons. First, a fabulous family. Second, a wonderful attitude about life. Third, grandchildren who bring joy to you at every turn. But most of all, A great love.
I know it must be so difficult for you to watch and am sorry that you are unable to work in the garden. With the healthy fresh from the garden vegetables and the therapy , you soon will be back to your beloved garden.
Love, votre amie,
Francoise.
Yes it is true penance to can not do anything in the garden, the lawn and around (trees and hedges) and also the work on the house ..
but we do with what one has.
thank you Françoise<
I always said that: To start to cook you must start sowing the veggies. That what Janine does. Food for the Gods made by a Godess.
I know it must horrible for you not to be able to work in the garden, but, patience, the days will come again.
I am okay, thanks. Perhaps more lazy than usual.....
Amitié
Carlo
One more question....
Do you want the canvas size 16" x 20 inches? (40.640cm x 50.800cm)
(I have a box full of them)
or would you like it larger or smaller?
Yes, that is the one that needs to be painted. Janine digging in the garden. Thank you.
Mmm...potage! How delicious! Hooray for Janine!
Good luck with the physical therapy. It is not fun at all, I am sure. Hopefully, your physical therapists are capable and friendly...that was the only thing that helped get me through physical therapy when I hurt my back!
Hey, Michel!
How are you doing this week?!
HUGS!!!
