  • At the approach of Palm Sunday

    A l’ approche des Rameaux
At the approach of Palm Sunday

    English version below the picture

Benediction of the box , outdoor , just at the beginning of the celebration.

The mass of Palm day is the longest of the year . Indeed there is at first the celebration of the palms commemorating the triumphal arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem just before the jewish  Paque. A crowd applauded et made waves with foliages t( the palms). Jesus was stoic , he knew his fate the day after . So in Amiens , in the first part of the celebration we sing hosannas and people raise their stems  of box with leaves ,(Buxux sempervirens :  Box always green ).
This box ,blessed, was put on the graves in the afternoon and it was a tradition to put a branch  at the crucifix in the house

After this time the mass sensu stricto  begins. We read at first the epistles of Paul to the Philipians  2,6-ii). A song “Christus factus est" was sung  in a recent past but this liturgical treasure tends to be lost.  (See the video above . The words are on You Tube , clik on you Tube in the righ low corner))

Then stand up to listen the long gospel  according Marc. He relates the last supper, the  Cene, the treason of Judas , the arrestation of Jesus after his terrible anxiety at Getsemani, his interrogatory with torture and finally his dead nailed on the cross  and at last his corpse put in tomb. Jesus shows voluntarily to us what was waiting for us  with at the end the hope of the resurrection. I though it was appropriate to place above the song "Mystere du Calvaire " ( music de JS Bach)

Now many families are scattered on a country or in the world . We make two rather short travels to vist our dear departed , there, where they lived and loved us. We will have a special thought for our xanga friends who are now in the light of God:

Such sadness and also the loss of inciteful who I followed on wordpress.
    Blessings Michel.

  • Also my husband, Tom. Praise God for the hope that Jesus'resurrection gives us.

    • Sorry Gracia . When I wrote the list yesterday night around 23h pm, I was a bit in the mist. I am more sorry yet because I prayed for you both .
Now, Tom's name is in the list of memories and prayers

  • You are such a fine gentleman Michel. So thoughtful and have so much kindness in your heart. Blessing to you and your family on these special days.

  • We had a "cutting of the palms" party for the church women last Sunday in preparation for this coming Palm Sunday. I'm hoping the snow goes away and we have nicer weather for when we process around the church before entering... Yes there have been so many xanga friends that have died and so many more that have disappeared.

  • So sad that so many Xangans have passed away. :-( Thank you, Michel, for reminding us to honor them. I will continue to pray for their families.

This is a beautiful post for Palm Sunday. :-) And the videos were a joy to listen to.

    Thank you, Michel! :-)
    HUGS!!! :-)

  • What a beautiful post. So thankful for our Lord Jesus who gave His life for us! Each year it is more precious to me.

  • I got rather lost around Easter the year Scott died and since we don't drive in the dark I have not attended Ash Wednesday or Maundy Thursday services or Sunrise on Easter. Those services are memories for me.

We will be there for Palm Sunday.

  • Good Evening, Michel

Loved this Palm Suday post---The church did it beautifully for all of you.

Yes, people are slipping away from us.

    Blessings

    frank

  • ryc: Please do not concern yourself over any typo's. If I don't understand something I'll contact you. I addressed this in today's post.

  • Hi Michelle, I was reading your comment over at Zakiah's page... and do you know I only in the last 10 or so years came to know of the French history in the America's. It is a shame. It sounds as though the French were much nicer to the native americans, assimilating with them, rather than trying to overrule them as the english were wont to do when they arrived,
and it seems that the French were here first.
Amazing how they leave that out of the history they teach us...
unless of course I was just asleep in class, as usual during history, or as they called it back then Social Studies.
I think it may also depend on what state you grow up in. They tend to teach the history that is relevant to the region. I grew up in the north-east which mainly contained the history of the english colonies.
The French seemed to have been in the mid-west or the northwest territories, up toward Canada. I'm pretty sure the french came down from Canada.
I found it all very interesting.

    • I liked your comment Lynn about the the history of the USA
At my beginning on xanga in 2001 I had a cajun reader . He did not stay unfortunatly . He lived in the are a of New Orleans and knowing I was French he told me that in the recreational yard of the elementary school , it was forbidden to speak their old French between them : only English; I was somewhat saddened .
After the treaty of Paris in 1763 , the new king of France Louis XV left all of the areas of French presence in America and India to England . At this time the king of France did not see the importance of those immense territories. he was turned towards the European continent.
But what is paradoxal is that France helped a lot the English colonies to gain their independance a few years later (last battle in Yorktown with the surrender of English general Cornwalllis of 1782, I am not sure of the exact date , I write this by memory ). The French navy commanded by the amiral De Grasse blocked the harbours of the American coast so the English could not provide renfort in soldiers , arms and food . Régiments of French soldiers led by Rochambeau and La Fayette helped the Americans to beat the english.army The french king Louis XVI gave also a lot of money what ruined France and triggered the French revolution of 1789 .and the martyre of the King and the Queen ;both beheaded with the " guillotine "
It is why when the first American soldiers came fight in France in 1917( war 1914-1918), they said " La Fayette , here we are "
      But I speak , speak, speak . Sorry,Lynn.

  • Re: your comment on my WordPress site...why did you chose the word "suffering", Michel? Are you in pain? Or is it related to thinking about Palm Sunday? I'm concerned about you.
You are in my thoughts and prayers!
Love and HUGS to you and Janine!!! ;-)

    • You are kind Carolyn. Yes the word is " sufferings" (at the moment ) . After the spine surgery ( laminectomy) of last December I must walk and, day to day, my walk improved and I reached 2km in a row . Alas ;once I twisted my knee in a small trench in the sidewalk and more recently I twisted again it but i did not say at the PT woman that I had a light pain at my knee because I wanted to do the exercises for my lower back and my legs to continue to improve my walk.: Lack of prudence and wisdom. Since then I cannot fold my right knee without suffering I have a momentaneous handicap . Now, at the PT they work on my knee instead of the back and legs . And I apply a sort of anti-inflammatory gel twice a day/ So I keep hope for a near future but since you asked what was my " word " today " this is "sufferings" but I did not say anithing about on my entry , I only answer to your question.
      Thanks to ask

  • Ty so very much for your comment on my have a good day post.

  • You're welcome, Michel.
I responded back to your comments on my WordPress post.
Yes, keep up the hope! I hope that soon you will have a different word like "rejoicing" and "healing"! (and your word will not be "sufferings" much longer.)
Please remember you are in so many people's thoughts and prayers. You are loved! :-)
    (((HUGS)))

  • Palm Sunday is a beautiful reminder that Jesus Christ is KING...The true king that lives in our hearts and hold the promise of salvation for those who believe. What a beautiful reminder of the people who are lost to us. Did you know Judy Rhodes? I forgot her Xanga name but kept in touch on facebook until her very untimely death just around the holidays. Much too soon. But these good people will always remain in our memory. Losing a child is a deep deep wound and having Jesus's promise is the hope that we have to be reunited with those that we love and miss. Thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to tomorrow when I tell the little children the joyous story of Palm Sunday...

    • Her Xanganame was Symbolreader. I always have been one of her readers until her last post . This is an awful shock for me . Before her retirement she used all of her time to teach and graduate students'papers .
In her last post she spoke of her dog COCO that had been amputated and said also she had just got a sort of stroke and had exams at the hôpital. Dead Judy?at this time she was hoping to go at Christmas to California .? What a scary news

  • Michel, what beautiful words and sentiments! I remember so many on you're list and was saddened tho hear that so many are gone. I think of you often although I do not write quite so often. So sorry to hear that you have been in pain, but glad that your family continues to flourish. Your post reminded me how much I am looking forward to Easter this year, after a long, cold, snowy winter! Our family is doing well. The oldest is attending our local community college, our son is on the verge of graduating high school and the youngest is finishing up her sophomore year. Love to you and your family! Karen

  • Hi MIchel, You do not speak too much. :-) I love history now that I am matured. As a child I always found it boring, but now, as an adult I realize its importance, and I realize how much I wish I had learned sooner. We only used to learn what our country's schools decide to teach us (a big problem in the middle east :-( ) ...
now we are able to learn so much more from one another.

I agree, it is sad that the French history has been pushed aside.

  • I also, hope your 'suffering' eases.
Back troubles are the worst... back troubles, and knee troubles.... they both make life difficult. I hope the therapy helps.
    Blessings to you,
    Lynn

  • I like hearing about Easter Mass and the various different Seasonal services. I know that I miss a few of these xangans as well.

As for your recovery, I hope and pray that you are not limited too long from doing the needed things that you once did. I hope your wife and family are able to help you get back up and doing all you love to do faster.

  • Thanks for this post, Michel. I remember many of those Xangans that have passed. <3 My very best wishes to you and your family at Easter!

  • A Blessed Palm Sunday to you Michel, Janine and your wonderful family. This year, I be home trying to get my body healed. Not sure when I will have the right knee done.

Enjoy this special holiday. Love Marilyn

  • Blessings to you and Janine on this Palm Sunday, Michel. I love this post. You have such a talent for conveying to us the most important parts of life. I pray that you and your family are all well!

  • I hope that your PT gets you fixed up soon so you can enjoy all of your gardening this summer!
Easter isn't a big holiday for me, but I remember that my mother in law would bring a palm leaf home from church and keep it for a long time. I wonder where they got palm leaves in the middle of the U.S.?
Since I only came to Xanga in its final two years, I didn't know very many of the bloogers, but I am sorry the line list of passings is so long.
I hope to get over here to Xanga more often now, so that I can visit with my old friends such as you.
    From the long absent, Dian

  • How are you feeling today, Michel?
You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers1
It is a beautiful sunny Sunday...inside and out! :-) Spring has sprung! :-)
