Knitting and crocheting .
Almost every evening I gaze with most admiration at my wife who makes wonderful knittings . Using two simple knitting needles and some coloured balls of wool that I see on the table she is creating progressively little multicolor - drawing dresses , beautiful pullovers in contrasted colours , jackets with hood etc ...for our 10 grand children . I am never tired to be in ecstasies over that magic . I am unable to hold only one needle . ! So I am admiring more again ! And when I look at the pattern book , my hair stand on end : there are numbers , sizes , patterns , technical drawings , technical words . Almost mathematics . What a competence is necessary . My admiration is increasing more again and again .
Sometimes ago in Canada I saw a friend who made a huge white and blue blanket with an only one tool called " crochet " . I stared open - mouthed at her marvellous work .
Happy are they , these women to have their artistic works to be admired by unable man ' eyes .

My dear Michel, you neglect to relate that you, yourself have attempted the most elusive craft of crocheting! And you did so while in Canada. To be fair, you did only learn how to chain stitch but it was a valient effort nonetheless. I am pleased that you are in awe of the art of knitting and crocheting. It is only a matter of time (and of course practice) until you too are able to master this craft!!

Michel,
You find such beauty in things! You should feel good about the chain stitch. You know one more than I!
Your Grandchildren will be happy with those things for years to come. They can be passed down through the family. I have a crocheted "throw" made by my Great Grandmother. It is colorful and beautiful like the day she made it.
My hats off to your wife for the art and patience of knitting!!!
Have a good Sunday!

we need blankets!
ilymsc&f&x&c...
I have to agree with you, knitting is such a difficult thing to do! But the end results are awesome!!
Your wife is a blessing to you and all of her family. You are kind to notice and praise her work(though your hands cannot perform what your eyes observe!) I crochet and sew. I will share this encouragement with my friend who knits. Thank you, friend!

Unfortunate I had to give up knitting and crochet. I used to knit a sweater (for an adult) in a week time. About ten years ago I got troubles with my right hand - the doctors should call it RSI now. Have had surgery on my right wrist twice... if I try to knit now I have pain for a whole week. Now when I have time I do some cross stitch or some sewing... but that ime is limited...
What a beautiful observation, Michel!! I hope your wife knows the wonder that you experience in seeing her create.
It really is a wonder, isn't it??
mystical2 taught me how to knit and crochete. I'm only good at weaving webs. She made clothes for her dog with the yarn. I had an exorcism and I burned up her site.
Love to be able to either one....but alas it's beyond my ability as I can only use one hand now.
I love to watch people knitting and crocheting...I think its absolutely beautifull...I never did learn...wish i did. i think while youre there knitting with all the beautifull yarn, you find some nice peace and quiet your mind...
have a great week..

It is amazing how, with so simple tools, one can make such amazing things.. But don´t give all the credit to your wife, Michel. You should also be glad of yourself for being able to realise all the beauty in this activity. For all you vision about life. I´m glad I know you.
Have a nice week!
Beautiful blog...congratulations on admiring your wife's creations and getting to spend many evenings enjoying together...
Many treasures can be created from simple materials when the heart and mind work together...how wonderful for your grandchildren too...and that you and your wife are so lucky to live to meet them and share beautiful gifts from the heart.
My daughter can { and so can many others} hold a conversation and watch TV in addition to knitting complicated patterns. All at the same time.
Truly the female mind is a thing of wonderment.
Maybe you can try to weave a carpet...
If you can believe it, my mother and father were both very adept at crocheting and needlework! We still have a few of the afghans my mother made. The kids love them!
Michel, many men also knit and crochet. The first knitting man I encountered was my Squadron CO at Military College in St Jean, PQ. The work he produced was beautiful!
i tried to learn to knit.. my attempt ended in failure.. well not failure.. but a less desirable piece of work. haha.
Did you know that many strong men have learned this craft too, to relax?
Well Michel ,I cannot not put a comment on this one.
I know one too who does about the same thing in xanga and no knitting needle either.
A little cyberspider called Simon.heheheh.
Merci pour le message,I'm ok.
Bien a toi
Michel, I am now inspired to pick up my crocheting needle and begin something! I have not made a piece for several years and once moved into my new home I may begin something ... maybe for you! You will be here next December yes?!?
If you do come to Hillary's wedding in December, I shall hope to have something made for you, although it might be a smaller work!
At least I shall begin something!
I appreciate your words about your wife. Janine must be a wonderful lady and fortunate to have an admiring husband. I wish she would come with you when you return! We would like so much to meet her too!
Practice Michel! Lynn will expect a potholder or something when you arrive next!!! lol Ask 'mama' to help you!
take care,
Deb
My auntie knits too. She's always tried to teach me, but I can never get the hang of it. It's harder than it looks!
Yes it is wonderful to watch! !@--}--}----
I loved to do it... bot the knitting and the crochet..... and I will do it again, when my children are a bit older.
When at university we had a group of friends. One of them was a real master in knitting... wonderful!!! He did coloured patterns in thick wool. Far too heavy for me to do. One could wear a sweater as a coat.
So have a try and another and another.........
it brings the mind to rest.....
Have a nice day!
Ma mère fait la crochet... je ne l'ai jamais apprécié, mais peut-être je dois le faire, non?
My mom crochets... I've never really appreciated it, but maybe I should.
funny, i'm not a terribly womanly woman, but i do like to knit and crochet, even though here in costa rica its too hot for much knitted clothes or blankets. i wonder sometimes at the primordial origins of this urge to create cloth
nice to have ones primordial urges admired
I love your appreciation of things around you...it teaches me to be more observant of how much goodness and beauty there is...your views on flowers, your wife's work, war and humanity. =) i've missed you this past week! thanks for being so inspirational!
Loop within a loop, it takes patience and I admire someone who can read and create from a pattern. Bet she makes some wonderful stuff.
What beautiful words you have used to describe a simple skill AND your lovely wife ....
Truly a blessing!
Bea
