Tubage de cheminée et nouvel insert
Lining of a chimney and new wood stove fireplace insert
15 Février
English version below the pictures
Last Monday and Tuesday (February 10 and 11) an enterprise came to the house to install a fireplace insert to replace the previous open wood stove. But at first the specialist had to remove the previous stove, to clean to prepare the fireplace, to adjust to the new wood stove insert. Then he put the lining of the chimney, a 43 feet long stainless steel flexible tube. It was a great height and working with a ladder was impossible so he used a platform elevating work. This is the second time I see this kind of monster in my backyard! The lining went well even if the chimney is a old one.
It was, at the end, time to put in place the insert, to connect it to the stainless steel tube. and to the vent tube . He put the wood and lit. The specialist who is also an artist waited for to be sure everything worked well.. It worked! I specify that this new insert is in our living room (we already have one in the dining room). My wife Janine enjoys the sweet warmth while outside it's always and always wet , windy and cold.

Hier, c 'etait Notre 53ème anniversaire de mariage
Yesterday October 18 was our anniversary

No pictures because this allows to use the imagination for a best savor
Yesterday 18th of February 2014 was our 53th anniversary. At first, it was hard to realize that 3 years ago we were celebrating our 50th with much faste . And we realized also we have to be grateful and in this state of mind we got a good meal to a outstanding restaurant in that good town of Amiens . It was 8h pm.
Of course it was a necessity to start with a cup of champagne. ( only one !)
Then we attacked the " entrée " . We chose a " salade landaise " that is various pieces of duck cooked in different ways and placed in an amount of lettuce leaves . It was a delight but copious and at the end looking at each other we confessed this "entrée " could be a normal meal.
Then after taking our breath the main dish came : we have a large slice of ham to bone accompanied of gratin of potatoes for me or cooked endives for Janine .
At the end of the meal we indulged ourselves a bit of gourmandise with the dessert. The waiter brought to me a homemade moka very perfumed, such in my youth. Aaaah! Janine had ordered a floating island . Good, she said !
The all was accompanied by a excellent Bordeaux
We rejoiced this meal that honored very well our 53th

ahhhh ~ I just love wood heat ~ we no longer use ours much, but may have to start again if the gas prices don't come down!
What a lovely fireplace! I think that wood heat is wonderful, and I love the smell of the wood burning, too! It's been a long time since I have had the privilege of smelling that!
You live in a community? (Town, city, or village) From pictures you have shown of your large yard and garden, I thought that you lived in the country.
Blessings to you and Janine... enjoy staying warm! ~ Love ... Carolyn
As you see Carolyn we live in the town of Amiens ( Northern France ) but not in the center of the town
I am like Janine...I love the warmth and heat in the Winter! And a fire in a fireplace is always romantic to me!
How wonderful to have a new wood stove fireplace insert...it is beautiful! And it was fun to see the photos and how it was accomplished! I'm so glad you can enjoy it!
HUGS!!!
From The Other Carolyn
Looks like it was a big job! So glad it went well and you have warm rooms again! Pretty fireplace! <3
Hi Michel. I love word burning wood stoves. The house we inherited had one and we love it.
That was a big job!!
blessings

You have a very tall chimney! I wish our fireplace was better - the chimney needs to be cleaned and there are so very few chimney sweeps in our area. The last time we tried to use it we had smoke all through the house! Perhaps this summer we will be able to get it cleaned - we have to get on the waiting list.
I am happy that you were able to save the ancient chimney and renovate it. I love to burn wood in my fireplace too. The fire in your living room looks so inviting. Enjoy it.
How lovely. This is what I would like to have too... wood stove fireplace. It is the best kind of heat, and it seems the only kind that truly gets me warm. Your home looks like a palace to me.
Keeping the exterior and renewing the interior is a bonus. I love wood burning stoves and the heat that comes from them.
That cherry picker truck with its bracing legs looks like a robot or part insect part truck.
I really miss having a fireplace. There is no need for one where I live. It is seldom so cold it would be used. Yours is pretty and inviting. Enjoy. Hugs and smiles, Char
she will glad to be safe also!
Thank you, Michel for your advice and your explanation re: how you respond.
You are always so helpful (& polite).
Thank you, Michel … yes, that is it… I do have two fatherlands!
I feel the richness and blessing of having both countries in my heart!
Love,
Carolyn
RYC to mine: I learned from the photos that you indeed live in town. You have the best of both town and country living!
It's been many years since I last sat at a fireplace. My current home has a fireplace but we haven't used it in the 9 years we've been here. Maybe I can ask them soon to use it for one evening.
It would be a good idea ,Marica . It is so good to dream in looking at the flames near a good fire .
When was your house built? It looks like you have lovingly maintained it over the years. Here in the outlying reaches of Southern California there are few houses over one hundred years old. Redwood was so plentiful when this area was being settled that most of the old, better built houses are of redwood. While insect resistant, they are no match for fire so they are disappearing over the years.
Our house has been built in the years 30's
There is nothing like a fireplace. I wish we had one. I am glad you got the repair done. Sounds like it will make a good difference. What a project!
God bless you, Michel!
-`This is wonderful! I had a fireplace in my home, but it was gas. There is nothing like a wood-burning fireplace. Janine could have a rocking chair and perhaps do some knitting there? In any case, she will appreciate having warmth there. This is a wonderful post,Michel.
Makes me wish we had a wood-burning stove, or better yet, a fire place....But as small as our house it, there's just no room....
Sometimes I think I should do this too. I have a lovely fireplace but burning wood in it and getting the wood is too much for me. So I have it closed up. It has no way to shut out the air so I have cardboard in it with some pretties in front so it does not look so bad! I am doing okay...just starting the exercises at the Wellness Center so I will be doing that twice a week. I have had my oral surgery last week and will have my last iron infusion this week. Hoping this will all make me feel much better. I am holding on! I pray each day that God will make me stronger so that I can get on with what I do best! Loving everyone especially those kids!!!! Love to you and Janine! XXOO
It is so warm and cozy to have a fireplace to keep you toasty on cold damp days. We don't Ned one here in Maui but would need one back home in New York. It looks like a big job getting the insert replaced.
Yes, lining a chimney and installing the insert correctly need a serious professional who loves the work well done
Chaleureuse salutations, AM
I would so love to have one of those trucks!
I have two wood stoves in the cabin, but alas none in our home. They are wonderful sources for heat. The ones at camp are suitable for cooking on top of!
The new insert will make your fires safer.
Oh how wonderful Michel and so warm and nothing better than a fire place to stay warm and snug in the cold, miserable weather.
Congratulations and many happy returns of your anniversary!! <3 <3
Happy anniversary! I wish you many more wonderful, happy, blessed years. <3
Congratulations to you and Janine on 53 wonderful years together! You are a beautiful couple, and show your love and friendship so well!! God bless you and give you many more years together!
Love,
Carolyn
Congratulations to you and Janine!
Happy Anniversary!
It sounds like you had a beautiful celebration!
HUGS!!!
We had a old gas fire taken out last year so we use the heath as a wood/coal , John and I love it. We will have to have work done on our chimney to clean it out in the summer. Your fire looks lovely a warm. Congrats to Janine and you on your wedding anniversary
The best to you both. Our 54th will be October this year.
ryc: Michel we did not drive on that tire. The spare donut was put on to drive the tire to shop.
Mornin Glorie! I've been away from my desk for awhile, we've had lots of snow and therefore we haven't had to come into the office to work and I don't get on the computer at home very often. But the snow is gone and today it's almost 70 degrees, very nice indeed. I love your fireplace, it is lovely and I'm sure the new insert will keep you and Janine nice and toasty... speaking of toasts...Happy Anniversary!!! I too wish you many many more
ILYM
I would not want to have to work on a platform like that! Now, you will have nice fires for years to come and not have to worry about a possible fire where it should not be!
Your celebration dinner sounds good, though you may have been too full to enjoy the hanky-panky afterwards.
You will be cozy and safe now, for a long time to come. There is something particularly warming about wood heat.
Congratulations on 53 years of wedded bliss! The meal sounds delicious and a wonderful way to celebrate - just a romantic dinner for 2 (lovebirds)!
Blessed anniversary wishes to you both ~
Happy Anniversary to my friend and his lovely wife Janine. God's Blessings to you both.
Haven't had much of winter until now, and we had some snow, rain, sleet, wind, etc. Nothing like what is and has been happening on the east coast of the USA. Our winter very mild, but I'm looking forward to spring and warmer days an spring flowers. I keep busy with genealogy. <3 Marilyn (thistlepatch)
Ty so very much on your congrats on mine and Td stop smoking for 14 years.
Lovely to have a nice fire when the weather is damp. Congratulations on your wedding anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!!! That had to be a wonderful dinner!!!
Happy 53rd! That sounds like a fantastic anniversary meal. I'd like to try that salade landaise one day, although I don't think you can get magret easily here.
Sorry this is a bit late, happy anniversary. You have been blesses with a beautiful wife and children. Manymore years together.
Wonderful to have a new fireplace! You have a beautiful house too. Looks like it has a lot of history in it. We have a wood stove in the basement which we used a lot this winter. It's so cozy and sometimes downright hot!
When you and Janine were dining to celebrate your 53rd anniversary, you mentioned Janine ordered a dessert with float. I wonder if it is the same we make here. We would make a vanilla pudding and add the float which was egg whites that have been beaten and sugar added. My father loved that and once when he was hospitalized he asked if I could bring him some. It is going to be 45 degrees today, hooray!!!!
Wood stove inserts are the best.....keeps the heat from going up the chimney.....
Happy 53rd anniversary!!!
For a bday it was really hopelessly quiet. My husband had meetins every evening this week, so my bday has been moved to the weekend! A phone call from my sister was the most excitement I had yesterday when I posted this. I’m not really bored.
<3
Your house is leaning to one side.
I think this is an optical illusion due to the inclination of the arm of the aerial platform
Happy Anniversary.
Michel dear friend, I wish you many decades of happy anniversaries. You and Janine deserve them.
Thank you for the link, Michel ~ they have American coots at that Texas birding center as well ~ I have photos of them in this post ~ http://fwren.xanga.com/2014/02/09/visiting-south-texas-day-8-south-padre-island/
Ty for your comment on my sunset over the apt complex. No we are not moving as it would be way to much on both of us. This is the apt complex we live in.
RE: your comment on my site -- You are right, Michel! When I saw Carolyn's challenge, I thought I'd try it out... and it was fun to see some of the ones that we were alike, too.
You always brighten up my day when I see your comments. ♥ Love ♥, Carolyn
Good Morning Michel and Ty so much for your comments on my post, and photos of Ali helping me make the bed.
yes she is very spoiled<:)
Ty so very much for your comment on my post of photos of the heron.
Ty for your comments and no one was hurt in the fire and the homeless squatters went on to another abandoned home.
I'm finally checking in with my friend Michel. I see that you have a good warm home now and celebrated a happy anniversary! I'm glad for you and Janine.
Ty so very much of your comment on my post with a photo of our resident apt. complex stray kitty, Thomas.
He will be going back to the vet again in the morning for treatment on that eye.
Ty for your comments on my post and photo of the muscovy duck. He is quite a character and so much fun to watch.
I jus got your note, Michel, and I had a brain freeze! I think I had another site called imeantwell, because it came up when I was trying to do something else. Please try that and let me know.
I am glad to hear from you. We had worried that you hadn't blogged for awhile. My love to you and Janine!
Bev
Well I missed it but one can always congratulate friends and wish them many more happy years together.
