.Le 5 Mai dernier j’ assistais à la messe à la cathédrale d’Amiens pour le jubilé du concile Vatican !!(1963), il y a 50 ans. Depuis ce temps les évêques d’Amiens sont toujours vivants . Deux d’entre eux dont un en retraite étaient là et des évêques voisins : Reims, Beauvais , Arras …
Après l’ homélie j’eus une grande émotion . Un chant était entonné par le chœur de la cathédrale. Je fus saisi par la divine harmonie de ces voix qui s’élevaient vers la voûtes de la cathédrale à 42 m de haut. J’eus le réflexe de prendre une courte vidéo. Admirable ! Je demandais à une femme près de moi quel était ce chant. C’était« Verleih uns Frieden » ( Donne–nous la paix ) par Mendelssohn. J‘oubliais d’arrêter ma caméra si bien que j’ ai aussi enregistré le Credo..
Ce qui est aussi merveilleux est que Mendelssohn était uncompositeur juif allemand du XIX ème siècle , un des plus grands. Pour ce choral il utilisa le paroles écrites par Luther qui lui-même les avaient traduites en allemand d’un ancien hymne grégorien en latin. Et cela était chanté en 2013 dans une église catholique construite au XIII ème siècle.
Totale harmonie et unité dans la prière par la musique . Le temps , les barrières et les différences artificielles étaient abolis

Last may 5, I attended a special mass at the Cathedral of Amiens for the jubilee of the council Vatican II ( 1963), 50 year ago . Since then the bishops of Amiens still are alive ,. Two of them whom a retiree one, were there and bishops neighbours (, Reims, Beauvais Arras…) .
After the sermon I had a great emotion , A song was sung by the choir of the cathedral . I was staggered by this divine harmony of those voices that were rising towards the vaults at 42 meters high (137 feet) . . I had the reflex to take a short video. Admirable!. I asked a woman near me what was this song . It was Verleih uns Frieden ( "Grant us peace" in English) by Mendelssohn . I forgot to stop my camera at the end so I recorded also the Creed.
What is also wonderful is that Mendelssohn was a Jewish German composer from the XIXth century , one of the greatest . For this choral he used words written by Luther that himself translated in German the Latin words of a old Gregorian anthem. And this was sung in 2013 in a catholic church built in the XIII th century .
Total harmony and unity in the prayer by music.. Time ,barriers and artificial differences had disappeared .

This is what I feel and think. It is why I sing in a choir in town and at this time we prepare pieces of Bach, Mozart , Vivaldi, Saint-Saens , Charpentier etc....(photo above)
In singing we think more intensely to the people in the devastated areas such in Oklahoma ( tornado ) or in civil war ( Syria for instance ) and to those who cross a hard path.

La profession de foi ( communion solennelle ) de Manon et la première communion d 'Antoine.

Samedi dernier 25 Mai , veille de la Trinité nous sommes allés à la communion solennelle de Manon où elle a renouvelé la profession de foi de son Baptême : le Credo.
Elle a 12 ans ( 13 en Juillet prochain) C ' était très émouvant . Mes lecteurs connaissent Manon et Antoine qui sont souvent avec nous . ( voir ici )

Last Saturday 25 of May , eve of Trinity's Day we attended the solemn communion of Manon where she renewed her profession of faith of her Baptism, the Creed. She is 12 and almost 13 (in July ) . It was very moving. My readers know Manon and Antoine who often are with us .( see here )
Et le Dimanche 26 Mai , la Trinité , nous étions à la messe de 1ère communion d'Antoine, le frère de Manon. Il est photographié ci-dessus au premier rang à droite. Il a 10 ans mais il aura 11 ans en Juin prochain. C'était aussi très émouvant ? Ainsi nous avons suivi deux jours en suivant deux évènements importants de la vie.

And , Sunday 26 of May 2013, Trinity's Day, we attended the first communiion of Antoine , Manon' s brother . He is pictured above first row on the right. He is 10 years old but he hit 11 in next June. It was also very moving . And we attended on a day after another two important events in life.
Et je pensais en moi-même qu'il y a 69 ans en mai 1944 c ' était ma communion selennelle dans ma ville natale à Marquise près de Boulogne( N.O. de la France), aussi à la Ste Trinité. J ' ai seulement deux photos (ci-dessous) prises par un photographe professionnel. C ' était deux fois mémorable d'abord parce que c ' était un évènement important pour moi et aussi parce que nos amis américains et anglais bombardaient notre secteur situé près de la côte face à l' Angleterre d'où les Allemands lançaient des missiles sur la région de Londres . Nous avons mangé le dessert dans l' abri , la cave de la maison, et l' après- midi voulant absolument aller au second office, les vêpres en dépit du bombardement , j' y suis allé avec mon père pour trouver une église...vide. Courageux , non ? Les vêpres avaient été supprimées à cause du bombardement mais nous n'avions pas de téléphone !

I thought in myself 69 years ago in May 1944 , it was my solemn communion in my hometown , Marquise near Boulogne ( North West of France ) on Trinity 's Day too. I have only two photos (above ) taken by a professional photographer . It was twice memorable because it was a big event for me and also because our friends American and English bombed our area which is face England , near the coast where the German shot missils on London and around. We ate the dessert in the shelter ( the cellar of the house ) and in the afternoon absolutly willing to go to the second service of the day ( vespers) despite the bombing, we arrived with my father at the church.. empty . Courageaous, No? the vespers had been suppressed because the bombing... but we had no phone.
