.Le 5 Mai dernier j’ assistais à la messe à la cathédrale d’Amiens pour le jubilé du concile Vatican !!(1963), il y a 50 ans. Depuis ce temps les évêques d’Amiens sont toujours vivants . Deux d’entre eux dont un en retraite étaient là et des évêques voisins : Reims, Beauvais , Arras …

Après l’ homélie j’eus une grande émotion . Un chant était entonné par le chœur de la cathédrale. Je fus saisi par la divine harmonie de ces voix qui s’élevaient vers la voûtes de la cathédrale à 42 m de haut. J’eus le réflexe de prendre une courte vidéo. Admirable ! Je demandais à une femme près de moi quel était ce chant. C’était« Verleih uns Frieden » ( Donne–nous la paix ) par Mendelssohn. J‘oubliais d’arrêter ma caméra si bien que j’ ai aussi enregistré le Credo..

Ce qui est aussi merveilleux est que Mendelssohn était uncompositeur juif allemand du XIX ème siècle , un des plus grands. Pour ce choral il utilisa le paroles écrites par Luther qui lui-même les avaient traduites en allemand d’un ancien hymne grégorien en latin. Et cela était chanté en 2013 dans une église catholique construite au XIII ème siècle.

Totale harmonie et unité dans la prière par la musique . Le temps , les barrières et les différences artificielles étaient abolis

Last may 5, I attended a special mass at the Cathedral of Amiens for the jubilee of the council Vatican II ( 1963), 50 year ago . Since then the bishops of Amiens still are alive ,. Two of them whom a retiree one, were there and bishops neighbours (, Reims, Beauvais Arras…) .

After the sermon I had a great emotion , A song was sung by the choir of the cathedral . I was staggered by this divine harmony of those voices that were rising towards the vaults at 42 meters high (137 feet) . . I had the reflex to take a short video. Admirable!. I asked a woman near me what was this song . It was Verleih uns Frieden ( "Grant us peace" in English) by Mendelssohn . I forgot to stop my camera at the end so I recorded also the Creed.

What is also wonderful is that Mendelssohn was a Jewish German composer from the XIXth century , one of the greatest . For this choral he used words written by Luther that himself translated in German the Latin words of a old Gregorian anthem. And this was sung in 2013 in a catholic church built in the XIII th century .

Total harmony and unity in the prayer by music.. Time ,barriers and artificial differences had disappeared .

This is what I feel and think. It is why I sing in a choir in town and at this time we prepare pieces of Bach, Mozart , Vivaldi, Saint-Saens , Charpentier etc....(photo above)
In singing we think more intensely to the people in the devastated areas such in Oklahoma ( tornado ) or in civil war ( Syria for instance ) and to those who cross a hard path.

Samedi dernier 25 Mai , veille de la Trinité nous sommes allés à la communion solennelle de Manon où elle a renouvelé la profession de foi de son Baptême : le Credo.
Elle a 12 ans ( 13 en Juillet prochain) C ' était très émouvant . Mes lecteurs connaissent Manon et Antoine qui sont souvent avec nous . ( voir ici )

Last Saturday 25 of May , eve of Trinity's Day we attended the solemn communion of Manon where she renewed her profession of faith of her Baptism, the Creed. She is 12 and almost 13 (in July ) . It was very moving. My readers know Manon and Antoine who often are with us .( see here )

Et le Dimanche 26 Mai ,  la Trinité , nous étions à la messe de 1ère communion d'Antoine, le frère de Manon. Il est photographié ci-dessus au premier rang à droite. Il a 10 ans mais il aura 11 ans en Juin prochain. C'était aussi très émouvant ? Ainsi nous avons suivi deux jours en suivant deux évènements importants de la vie.

And , Sunday 26 of May 2013, Trinity's Day, we attended the first communiion of Antoine , Manon' s brother . He is pictured above first row on the right. He is 10 years old but he hit 11 in next June. It was also very moving . And we attended on a day after another two important events in life.

   Et je pensais en moi-même qu'il y a 69 ans en mai 1944 c ' était ma communion selennelle dans ma ville natale à Marquise près de Boulogne( N.O. de la France), aussi à la Ste Trinité. J ' ai seulement deux photos (ci-dessous) prises par un photographe professionnel. C ' était deux fois mémorable d'abord parce que c ' était un évènement important pour moi et aussi parce que nos amis américains et anglais bombardaient notre secteur situé près de la côte face à l' Angleterre d'où les Allemands lançaient des missiles sur la région de Londres . Nous avons mangé le dessert dans l' abri , la cave de la maison, et l' après- midi voulant absolument aller au second office, les vêpres en dépit du bombardement , j' y suis allé avec mon père pour trouver une église...vide. Courageux , non ? Les vêpres avaient été supprimées à cause du bombardement mais nous n'avions pas de téléphone !

I thought in myself 69 years ago in May 1944 , it was my solemn communion in my hometown , Marquise near Boulogne ( North West of France ) on Trinity 's Day too. I have only two photos (above ) taken by a professional photographer . It was twice memorable because it was a big event for me and also because our friends American and English bombed our area which is face England , near the coast where the German shot missils on London and around. We ate the dessert in the shelter ( the cellar of the house ) and in the afternoon absolutly willing to go to the second service of the day ( vespers) despite the bombing, we arrived with my father at the church.. empty . Courageaous, No? the vespers had been suppressed because the bombing... but we had no phone.

To get up early is easy? .
              Se lever tôt est facile ?

Il y a quelques temps je bavardais avec mon cousin René ( celui qui parle aux phoques sur la plage) sur les problèmes du sommeil et du lever matinal. Il m’a dit qu’il avait le sommeil difficile et qu’ en plus ni lui ni sa femme Chantal ne pouvait supporter le tic-tac d’un réveil mécanique, mais il est capable de se lever tôt ou à n’importe qu’elle heure de la nuit . Précieux atout ! Il a juste besoin de savoir l’ heure et il dispose d’un réveil électronique qui envoie au plafond une image des chiffres de l’ heure, donc à chaque instant il connaît l’ heure.
Je ne suis pas une personne matinale . Depuis toujours j’ ai eu de la peine à me lever tôt le matin .
C’ est pour cela qu’ en 1962 j’ achetais un gros réveil-matin qui sonne très fort 7 fois . C’ est celui qui est photographié ci – dessous .
Avec ce réveil spécial placé sur le tapis à 1, 5 m du lit le processus de mon lever se déroule comme il suit :

- à la première sonnerie , quelques cellules de mon cerveau s’ allument mais pas assez pour réveiller mon cerveau entier .
- à la 2^ème sonnerie mon cerveau est totalement réveillé mais c’ est pour constater que mon corps est encore complètement aplati sur le matelas et incapable de bouger .
- à la 3^ème sonnerie , mon cerveau voyant que mon corps est encore inerte décide d’ attendre encore un peu .
- à la 4^ème sonnerie , il y a un conflit . Mon cerveau envoie à mon corps l’ ordre de se lever mais il n’obéit pas encore ..
- à la 5^ème sonnerie . Enfin mon corps bouge . Je m’ assied sur le bord de mon lit mais sans plus . Je jette un regard noir au réveil – matin.
- à la 6^ème sonnerie , je marche vers le réveil pour l’ arrêter mais j’ arrive trop tard la 6^ème sonnerie est finie
- je constate que je suis levé mais je suis frustré et furieux . Je reste accroupi à côté du réveil en attendant la 7^ème sonnerie .
Et quand elle commence je pousse rageusement le bouton et le réveil devient soudainement muet .
     « Je t ' ai eu , fichu réveil « ! dis – je triomphalement ( voir la petite video à la fin de l' entrée ) mais le résultat est que je suis levé !

Vous comprenez que ma femme , fatiguée d’ entendre toutes ces sonneries perçantes a rapidement choisi de se lever la première !!!
Et je dois avouer que , sauf en certaines circonstances , ce réveil – matin spécial n’ a pas beaucoup servi .Mais je l’ utilise encore quand je fois faire une petite sieste : Je le fais sonner au bout d’une heure comme cela je ne dors pas tout l’ après-midi !!!!

Some times ago I had a conversation with my cousin René,( the one who talks to the seals on the beach) about how to get up early . He told me it was hard for him to sleep and he and his wife Chantal cannot endure the noise of an old mechanical alarm clock but he is able to get up early or at every hour of the night . How precious! He just needs to know the hour and he got an electronic alarm clock which sends an image of the numbers of the hour to the ceiling with a system of lens . So at every moment he knows the hour.

   I am not a morning person . It always has been hard for me to get up early in the morning .

   It ‘s why I bought in 1962 a big repeating alarm clock that rings 7 times .with a very loud sound .It is pictured above .
With this special alarm clock put on the carpet to 1, 5 meter from my bed , the process to get up is the following :

- At the first ringing , some of my brain cells are twinkling but not enough to make my entire brain awake .
- at the second ringing , this time my brain awakes but it can only note that my body is completely flat on the mattress and unable to move .
- at the third ring , my brain realizing my body still is completely asleep decides that a small wait is possible yet !
- at the fourth ring , my brain is struggling with my body and send to it the order to move . But the body don’ t obey .
- at the fifth ring . At last , my body is moving . I sit on the edge of the bed only and look at the clock with a dark eye .
- at the sixth ring I “ rush “ towards the clock to stop the ring but too late . When I reach the clock the 6^th ring is   ended .
- I notice that I am got up but I am frustrated and furious . I remain crouching near the clock to wait the 7^th ring . And when this last starts
     I push furiously the button and the clock all of a sudden becomes dumb . “   I caught you , darn clock ! “ I say triumphantly .
         But the result was I was got up ! ( see below the very short video showing the shut of the sound )

   You understand easily my wife tired to hear those six screaming rings quickly has chosen to get up the first !!!
And I have to confess that , except in some particular circumstances , this special alarm clock has not been much used . But I still use it when I take a little nap at the beginning of the afternoon. The alarm is adjusted to ring at the end of an hour so I do not sleep all the afternoon!

En marge d’un repas de famille les jeunes vont de temps en temps dehors . C’ est à ces occasions que les rencontres entre cousins forgent les meilleurs souvenirs
During a long family meal the kids go occasionally outside. It is on these occasions that the meetings between cousins forge the best memories

Les jeunes filles regardent un animal très gentil mais un peu étrange qui ressemble à un chien . Elles y prenent beaucoup de plaisir . Le chien à longs poils est appelée Lola !!..

Et le sommet de l’ hilarité ! On m’ a demandé de chanter une chanson . Je n’ en connais que deux , une très ancienne déjà chantée par mon grand-père et une plus récente que je chante depuis 50 ans « les marchés de Provence « Je me suis mis à rugir ce chant . Le succès a été immédiat . Janine éclata de rire à côté de moi et mon cousin Gaston un peu plus loin me regardait de façon perplexe !
   And the hilarious top! I was asked to sing a song . I know only two , a very old already sung by my grandfather and a more recent one that I sing for 50 years “ the markets of Provence “ ..I was roaring this lastsong . The success was immediat. Janine was bursting in laugh at my side and farther my cousin Gaston looks at me witha interrogative way .

Tout ceci pour dire que bien des choses vivent autour d’une grande réunion de famille et je remercie les photographes qui ont su saisir ces situations.

All of this to say that many things are living around a big familial gathering and I thank the photographers who have been able to capture those situations

I sing an old song ( short video ) up date
Je chante un vieux chant ( courte video)

  Beaucoup parmi vous ont demandé à m’entendre chanter. Je n’ ai pas de video de ce repas d’ anniversaire en ce moment mais pour vous satisfaire, j’ai trouvé un très courte video où je chante après le repas du Noël 2012. C’est un vieux chant :la romance de Maître Pathelin dont on n’ a enregistré qu’un court extrait ( voir les paroles chantées ci-dessous) ; Je suis honteux de monter cela parce que cela n’ avait pas été travaillé avant et la voix est un désastre … !!?? Mais c’ est ainsi . je fais de mon mieux ce que je peu... pour l'ambuiance.

   Many of you asked about a video of me singing . I have not at this moment . But to satisfy you, I found a very short video where I sang after the meal of last Christmas Day . It is an old song: the romance of Maitre Pathelin. I am ashamed to show this because it was not worked enough and the voice ….. is a disaster ??!! But it is so ... .I do the best of what I can .. to give a good ambiance.
In that short part of the song I am saying :
".. ...je veus, je veux, dans mon brûlant désir dire je t'aime en tombant à genoux . Voilà voilà ce que je veux vous dire , mais, hélas , j' ai trop peur de vous "

And roughly translated in English :
