Un splendide  80ème anniversaire! Encore !

Vous vous  souvenez que nous avons fêté mon 80^ème anniversaire avec les enfants et petits enfants, à la maison, le 17 mars denier (souvenez –vous de la photo dans l’escalier ). Le Samedi 20 Avril dernier ma femme Janine me dit que nous devions allez visiter la maison que mon plus jeune fils construit dans un village à 45 km d’Amiens. Nous étions ensuite invités à manger. Pendant que je conduisais dans ce village ma femme me demanda à brûle-pourpoint de ne pas prendre la route habituelle mais de me diriger vers l’église et la maison juste à côté.. J’étais surpris, pour le moins..

  You remember we celebrated my 80th birthday with the children and grandchildren on the last March 17th at home ( you recall the photo in the staircase). Last Saturday, April 20, my wife Janine told me we had to visit the house that  our youngest son builds in a village located to 45 km from Amiens. Afterwards we should get lunch at his home. While I was driving in this village my wife suddenly asked me to not take the usual road and to go towards the church and the unknown house aside. I was for the least surprised.

Personne n’était dans la maison près de l’église mais il y avait trois tables dressées: nappe, serviettes savamment pliées, assiettes, jeux de verres etc…Je compris que c’était un complot. Et en effet à ce même moment arrivèrent successivement  des vagues d’enfants , petits-enfants , cousins et petits cousins et des vieux amis. Quelle énorme surprise! Ma femme avait organisé dans le secret une nouvelle fête pour mon anniversaire avec cette fois la famille élargie! N’était – ce pas attentionné et aimant? Tout le monde était informé et invité sauf moi, l’agneau innocent! Une de nos filles qui était arrivée la veille pour nous rendre visite était là en fait pour aider Janine. De même pour nos petits-enfants Manon et Antoine qui séjournaient chez nous et prirent part avec délice à cette conspiration.

  No one was in the house near the church but there were three large tables prepared with table clothes, napkins artistically folded, plates, sets of glasses etc  !!. I understood it was a " plot " . And indeed at this same time waves of children, grand children, cousins, second cousins   and old friends were arriving successively. What a big surprise! My wife had organised in the secret a new celebration of my birthday with this time the enlarged family . Was not this caring and loving. All of the people was informed and invited except me, the innocent lamb! A daughter who was arrived the eve to visit us was there in fact to help Janine and also our grandchildren Manon and Antoine who stayed with us and was part of this conspiracy... with delight..

 Nous étions environ 40 à table. Inutile de dire que le repas était particulièrement délicieux et les vins très âgés (comme moi), je veux dire très bons. Le repas prit tout l’ après-midi mais entre les plats des jeux collectifs animés par les filles étaient organisés, un concert de guitare a été donné par deux fils et le chœur des six enfants Fauquet ont chanté une chanson drôle rassemblant des souvenirs liés à moi . L’un d’entre eux fit même une chanson spéciale  sur mon chapeau !!

  A la fin, l’aînée ( la duchesse) me donna un paquet contenant mon cadeau  collectif  d’anniversaire , puis je suis resté fasciné par le feu d’artifice de deus bougies juste à côté des gâteaux et enfin Janine me donna un baiser. Beaucoup d’émotion pour ma pauvre âme !

  Voilà pourquoi je n’ai pas eu beaucoup de temps pour Xanga mais comme vous voyez c’ était pour cause de bonheur. Je remercie tout particulièrement Janine, mon épouse et tous ceux qui ont pu participer à cette joyeuse réunion.

  We were around 40 people around the tables . Useless to say the meal was especially excellent and the wines very aged ( like me) I mean very good  . This meal took all the afternoon but between the dishes, collective games were  organized by daughters , concerts of guitas played by two sons , and the choir of the six  Fauquet children sang a funny song they made together with their memories related to me! One of them makes also a song about my hat!!!

  At the end, the eldest child ( the duchess ) gave me a box who contained my collective birthday gift , then I was fascinated by the firework of the candles at the side of the cakes  and at last  Janine stuck a kiss. Much emotion in my poor soul.

  Here is why I had no time to be much on xanga but you see it was for a cause of happiness. I thank especially Janine, my wife  and all of those who have been able to participate to this joyous gathering

Le vieux cahier

The old exercise-book

  Mon épouse Janine était en train de mettre de l'ordre dans un coin du grenier . Elle vint soudain vers moi en disant :"regarde ce que j' ai trouvé " . C ' étatit un vieux cahier de la marque " le Suffren " . Un voilier était dessiné sur la couverture . Suffren était tn fameux amiral français du XVIIIème siècle mais je ne sais pourquoi cette marque s 'appelait ainsi.

My wife Janine was decluttering a corner of the attic when she came to me saying :”Look at what I found ".

It was a old   exercise book. The brand was " le Suffren"  . A sail boat was drawn on the cover (Suffren was a renowned French admiral of the XVIII th century , I do not know why this brand ‘ s name has been chosen)

 Je tournais la couverture et sur la première page étaient inscrits mon nom , ma date de naissance et l'année scolaire 1947-1948. C ' était un cahier de sciences . Je ne vous dis pas l' émotion que j' ai ressentie en retrouvant ce vieux document et combien de souvenirs me sont revenus.. J ' ai remarqué que c' était écrit au porte-plume avec des  encres d'un violet foncé ou rouge.

I turned the cover and I read on the first page my name , the birthday and the year where this was written : scholar year 1947/1948 . . It was a exercise-book of science.. I do not tell you the emotion I felt in reading this old document and how many memories came to my mind  .

I noticed the pen writing made in  using  black/purple or red ink. I realized I applied myself for a best  writing possible

 A l' intérieur les pages contenaient des dessins de sciences naturelles en couleurs que je faisais à la maison en les copiant sur le livre . C ' était comme cela que nous apprenions les premiers rudiments de l' anatomie et de la physiologie humaines ( seulement avec le livre). J ' étais alors en classe de troisème d'un Cours Complémentaire (C.C. ) prolongeant les études primaires mais dans la même école. Ce système a disparu aujourd'hui.
  Quelle émotion de tenir en mains ce qu'on a tenu et travaillé il y a 66 ans et qui est si chargé des souvenirs de l' adolescence , des professeurs et de la famille qui m' a soutenu.

  Inside , on the pages there is  coloured pen drawings of sciences. I made them at home in copying the book of sciences . It was like that we learnt the first notions of  human anatomy and physiology ( only with book ) . I was at what is called in American system the  9th grade in a school called Complementary Course ( which  was a primary school continued . This system has disappeared nowadays )

  This is with emotion that I hold in my hand what I held 66 years ago and that is so loaded of the memories of adolescence,of  teachers , and of my family .that supported me.

 Les restes du  Mur de l’ Atlantique attaqués

Dans une station balnéaire appelée Wissant près de ma ville natale, juste en face de l'Angleterre des machines monstrueuses sont en train de détruire trois bunkers ( blockhauss) qui faisaient partie du mur de l'Atlantique construit de 1942 à 1944 par les Nazis allemands pour bloquer tout débarquement des Alliées. Cette ligne de forteresses a été construite sur toute la côte de l'Europe, mais a été renforcée à certains endroits, en particulier dans cette région de Boulogne- Cap Gris- Nez - Wissant si près de la Grande-Bretagne. De là, nous voyons les falaises blanches de Douvres. La plupart de ces bunkers ont été détruits pendant la bataille, et après pour éviter toute utilisation ultérieure, mais certains sont restés et parmi eux trois sont  à Wissant. Ils étaient devenus une sorte de monuments historiques, un mémorial de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
Sur les photos prises par mon cousin René (celui qui a rencontré un phoque dans cette partie de la côte il ya quelques temps), nous voyons cette machine qui actionne  un marteau-piqueur puissant, grignotant l’épais  béton armé  puis ramasse les morceaux. Nous voyons que ce n'était pas chose facile à faire

 Then ,Why destroy them? It became dangerous on behalf of people security. A couple of years ago a tourist plunged in the sea from one of these bunkers and died. They were not surrounded by high tide, when they were first built. A picture taken by my father in 1947 showing me and a friend in the water allows to see in the background the important thickness of the dry sand . Nowadays much of the sand of the beach has been taken away by the erosion and the tide goes further .This phenomenom of erosion of cliffs or sand beaches  can be seen  in many places. Explications ? Various hypothesis can be stated .

  Une aide venue d' Angleterre ( pas pour détruire  les bunkers ci-dessus)

 La semaine dernière notre fille Isabelle qui vit dans le Kent en Angleterre est venue passer quelques jous à la maison avec ses enfants. Elle aime le jardinage . C ' est donc avec plaisir qu'elle est venue m' aider à bêcher et à enfouir le fumier. 

 C'était un dur travail car le sol est argileux et sec comme le montrent les photos ci-dessous . Mais avec son aide le labour a été rapidement achevé.

 Je la remercie , bien sûr.
 Maintenant nous attendons une meilleure météo. Toujours froid ! les pommes de terre , oignons et échalotes ne sont pas encore plantés . Nous sommes en retard par rapport à l' année dernière..

 Mais ne sommes- nous pas toujours trop presés ? Laissons faire le temps

ps / Janine a passé sa 6ème mammographie depuis son opération de 2007 . Les résultats sont bons.

  Last  week our daughter Isabelle who lives in Kent ( England ) came for a couple of days at home with her children.. She loves gardening  So she enjoyed to go to the vegetable garden to help me to dig the ground and put the manure .   

 .It was a hard work because the soil is clayed and dry as the pictures above show it . So, with her,  we got more quickly the garden totally done 
  I thank her of course .
 Now we are waiting a better weather, Still cold ! The potatoes , onions ,shallots  are not planted yet ! We are late in plantations compared to last year.
 But are not we always too much  in hurry . Let's the time go.

ps : Janine got her 6th mammogram today in the morning since her surgery of 2007. It is good
