  • Les aventuriers

    The adventurers

English version after the French texts

L ' aventure !

We stayed only 4 days in this extrem west area of Brittany ( western France ) at the beginning of July . But we could dream about adventures over the sea and on the rivers .

At the Camaret harbour we saw a huge 36 meters long sailing boat in maintenance on the quay . It was called " Tara " but it was in the reality the famous French boat " Antarctica " that made us dream during the 90 ' s with Jean Louis Etienne ' s polar expeditions . This boat has been especially built to resist to the ice pack with its round hull . The new owner changed the name but kept its vocation of explorer of the beauties so fragile of our planet . This boat will face again the ice . Adventure !

Our hotel was standing by the river - canal called " l ' Aulne " . Numerous yachts were staying along the quay . Janine and I went for a walk by the river and in one of the boats we heard people speaking English . It was a couple of Britishs who had crossed France in using the canals ( France has a lot of canals , some of them are very old ) . At night those two people were eating at our side at the restaurant . The boat was their hotel . They were going to cross the sea to join England . Isn' t it a great adventure ?

Some kilometres further we discovered by an unexpected way a fishing harbour which we didn' t know . There were a lot of new fishing boats and also numerous shipyards very active . They all gave us an impression of intense life . We thought of those unknown sea workers . Fishing over the sea always is a dangerous adventure they have to face .

What we saw in a few time gave us dreams of adventure . But already isn ' t life itself an incredible adventure ?

  • quelle beaux bateaux!

  • Life is an adventure…that’s what I tell people all the time and how I honestly try to live my life.  I’ve always seen this within you too, Michel, and I do believe it is why I am so fond of you.  I love how you embrace life and love and experiences.

  • ah.....I live my dreams through your eyes Michel!  YOU are an adventure!!!  God bless you and Janine!

  • you make me want to go sailing!! loved the pictures and the stories! you seem to have incredible adventures :)

  • Bonjour, Michel!

Your pictures add to my want and need to go to France one day. It would certainly be a dream come true for me, and one adventure that I would never be able to pass up.

I do enjoy adventures, and have always been one to be adventurous. However, when it comes to boats, I had rather not be anywhere near them. I have a great fear of boats, and I tend to get seasick as well. I'm the same way with planes, but I remain adventurous because I am always willing to face my fears.

Thank you for your latest comment. I want to thank you for your time you spend reading my posts and comments. I know that it can be difficult for you to understand the English, so thank you for trying each time. I hope you are having an excellent week, my friend. God bless.

  • thanks for sharing your adventures with us, Michel.  you are the sunshine in my day :o )

    ~janny

  • We Brits get everywhere What a wonderful painting you give us of the scene with your words and photos . There has been a TV show here about a TV cook Rick Stein who as made a journey across France on the canals http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0563522135/qid=1129651888/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_11_1/202-6059916-6410261 it was a beautiful thing to watch and the food was wonderful as well . Thank you for sharing this journey with us as you know I love looking around harbours .

PS I have a speical blog on Friday to do with France can you guess whats it about

  • Life is one huge adventure - to be enjoyed My friend will love that photo, her name is Tara Thank you for sharing your adventure and life my friend C~

  • Oh, it all looks SO beautiful.  How joyfully envious I am!

  • Life IS an incredible adventure.  For once, you post pictures that look very familiar to me....boats.....water....fishermen.

  • I hope that when it faces the ice again, the ice is still there. I've always find sea vessels interesting. In fact, most form of transport carries a sense of adventure to me.

Anyway, regarding our politics, it's always been that way. Our government have been known to sue newspapers and individuals over statements that they do not agree with. Fortunately, I doubt they will dare to do that to an official from countries like the US though. We citizens want to know the truth. Thanks for your concern

  • I love the picture of the yauhts on the river - canal.

  • OUI, LA VIE EST DEJA UN AVENTURE AVEC UN TOUR QUI CERCLE LE SOL CHAQUE AN.

  • Beautiful photos Michel. I love the sea, harbours and watching boats, I guess because we Brits live on an island we are all sentimental about the sea. Many people here have canal holidays as England also has many canals- legacy of the pre-industrial age. Marie.

  • You always have such beautiful photos and poetic words of wisdom, Michel.  Perhaps someday I will travel there to sail...that would be an adventure

    -matt

  • those pictures are wonderful and made me think back when i was on a field trip with my daughter. we all spent the night on a sailing ship. the crew re-enacted life on a sailing vessel back in the 1800's. we all had to work as though we were in the day. and follow captains orders and such. to sleep with the gentle creeking and swaying and musty wood surrounding you is an adventure. thanks for bringing back the memories!

  • Beautiful scenery!

  • Simply beautiful!

    Have a blessed day!

    Michele

  • Another clue Michel  its to do with France and England and its a Anniversary

  • That is what why we like lot in Brittanny, a lot of places we never knew of. A lot of beautiful surprises.
    This place looks very misterious.
I bet you had a nice time.

    Amitié

    Carlo

  • Oh Michel these photos are beautiful + well done!!
This was a lovely trip for you and Janine.
I am very happy to see these pictures... stunning how the sky is in each one.

    Rosemary

  • Beautiful pictures. I like your sense of adventure!

  • Love the picture of the yachts along the canal.  Such an eye you and Janine have for beauty.  The beauty of life ranks right up there with adventure...if you can have the adventure, enjoy its beauty through another's eyes.  Thank you my beautiful French adventurer friend.

  • oui. life is the best adventure isn't it? the pictures are so sharp. you must have an admirable camera.

  • Yes, life is an adventure! I love the ships...almost said "boats". :^)

    Have a good day!

  • What a beautiful area.  Cannot get over all the fishing boats.  We have a couple commercial fishing boats going out of our town to fish on Lake Michigan,  but they have so many regulations to contend with that very few fish commercially anymore.

You said you were confused about my parents--divorced or not.  Yes, my mother and father were divorced in 1951.  Mother remarried in 1954.  I call him Dad.  He raised me through my teen years, and is a wonderful Christian man.  He now has mild dementia, and is in an Assisted Living facility now.  Would like him living with us, but he can only live in the desert because of his allergies.  And Ken will not move from here.

  • I think you need to take a cruise with your wife. Come see the United States. I think you'd enjoy an Alaskan cruise.

  • The pictures are beautiful...and so is your attitude, thank you for sharing!

  • I really enjoyed this entry. I can only imagine how beautiful it was there. Any vacaton I take I need to be by the water. We have a friend/neighbor whom travels alone in his sailboat all the way around the world. Last year he left Lake Erie and traveled to the Atlantic Ocean and onto Greece. He is 79 years old! I ask him if he is afraid of pirates, and he alwyas answers 'No, not in the least." But he does carry some type weapon. The hard part for me would be the lenght of time alone at sea in rough water. Smooth waters would be cool! But 30 - 50 foot swells, my goodness, I wouldn't be able to keep a lunch down. And no one to help if I did get sick. This guy goes for months at a time, every year! But I truly admore him. And I love to listen to him tell his stories! Your entry here reminds me of those stories. Thanks Michel.

  • Life is most certainly is an incredible adventure! Wonderful photographs here, Michel. These ships convey so much! My niece is called Tara!! Thanks for sharing this lovely blog with us, Michel.

  • I cannot imagine being on a sail boat in icefields.  Adventure, indeed!  Wonderful photos!

  • wow the weather in the last photo looked scary!

  • Like you said...life is a ship at sea!

Life is whatever you make of it..if you make it an adventure..it will be one!

  • Life is such a lovely adventure, sometimes a sad one, sometimes joyous and sometimes downright silly! I am glad, for a delightful period of time, I have been able to travel on that adventure with you! HUGS! The pictures are simply grand!

  • Always a joy to read your articles and the fine photos you send   Well done Michel

  • A very exciting adventure Michel!  I like to see the pictures of ships.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Deb

  • i rmr i read a bk about someone who sailed around the world.. olivier sthsth..

  • Life is an adventure in itself but I still love the extra little adventures that we get from time to time.

  • oh i am quite familiar with that story of the polar expeditions! what a time they had! what a wonderful adventure you had, seeing all those lovely boats, and what not. Brittany sounds like a wonderful place to visit; seems you frequent it quite a bit. Perhaps one day, I will get the opportunity myself to see this place in person.  Thank you for sharing your photographs!

  • That's a very charming place! I have been to England and Scotland, but have never been anywhere else in Europe. I have never wanted to, because I do not speak any language but English. You make me want to visit France, though. It is so lovely!

I commented on your previous blog, too.

  • Yes, life is an incredible adventure isn't it??And I enjoy reading about your adevntures. I love your insights and you always give such a new and fresh insight o things. I really appreciate that !!

What a magnificant boat the now "tara" is. She is very strong and brave to face such cold and harsh waters. I hope she keeps her crew safe and warm.

Your last blog about the Cafe was very nice. I wonder as to why cafe's are not so plentiful anymore. There is nothing like sitting and enjoying coffee in new surroundings. I feel that the one you and Janine found was a rare piece of treasure. I am envious of your experience :)

    Big hugs

    Sarah

    ~Jenny

  • Thank you for sharing the pictures and your words. You have been blessed in life and I have been blessed to be your friend. Thank you

  • Years ago, before I was married, I used to love any type of adventure. I enjoyed living life to it's fullest. Sadly I married someone who did not care about going anywhere, or seeing what the world was all about. After my divorce, I thought I could find a friend that I could enjoy travelling with. You guessed it, he does not like to go places either. He would rather go to work, than do any traveling. Maybe someday!!!

I guess that is why I enjoy my computer so much and enjoy reading your blogs. I guess in a round-about-way I get to see the world and travel through every else's eyes. Thanks for the beautiful pictures and for sharing your adventure...

    Love Edie Rose

  • One night watching public broadcasting television I got to see the life of a shrimper. A tough life.

I would love to sit there by the canal and dabble my feet in the water. So pretty.

  • beautiful. you always have the best landscapes to photograph, and you do it well :D

  • Hello Michel
Blizzie is still living at home. She is in 12th grade. She will finish high school in June.
Christina is the one at college... she is three years now at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Blizzie has already been accepted to Messiah College in Pennsylvania. I think she will go there next September 2006.

  • Hell my bear , I am no.50, so not so far behind .I am so pleased you enjoyed your trip I think life, living daily is harder than we think ,and to escape for a while and see different places does us all good, sadly my days of travelling are over ,but i still retain my memories. Lots of best wishes to you both. Love Marjie

  • Hi Michel!  I've missed you!  Thanks for sharing all the beautiful things you do with us!  Hope you and your family have a great rest of the week!  Love & Hugs!!

  • I love the analogy of sailing and life.  How we go through stormy seas, force our way through ice, float about happily, and make it, to our destination.

  • Life is incredible and somewhat scary at times. I think a lot of us could learn from you.

  • Wonderful pictures Michel. You must have had a nice view from your hotel!

    Ranah

  •  michel, beautifully said and the pictures are gorgeous.. Life is quite an adventure, be safe

  • quels beaux voiliers!

  • I think if I were a male, I'd have been a sailor! I love the sea and ships.

Normandy or Bretagne for Mont Saint Michel? How about both!

  • Wow! That's pretty cool!

  • Ships really make us dream of adventures, don't they? Especially great ones like polar explorations. Speaking of that, I was reading the newspaper today about the melting of permafrost above the Artic circle, which threatens the livelihood of millions of indigenous people and animals. It is very sad.
You are right, life itself is an adventure, and every day we face new challenges.

  • Quelles belles photos!

I hope I did not make too many mistakes in my comment...
    Have a lovely day!
    Elizabeth (mommers' daughter)

  • Michel,

  • I'm fine Michel. Thanks for worrying. Check my other site under protected....but don't say the name.

  • Ah Michel...it looks so good!!!! it reminds me of my trip to Pitlochry in Scotland just now. it was one of the most beautiful times ever!!! couldn't make it to France this time, but will do soon. hope you and your family are happy and well!

  • Life IS an incredible adventure.  But it is a great gift to have the ability to imagine the lives and voyages of others, isn't it?

I can imagine sleeping in that boat with the water very gently rocking.  Your site always makes me crave adventure, Michel!

    Hugs,

    Lisa

  • Yes Michel, life is an adventure...may people just fail to see that...although, I do enjoy the adventures that take me to different places and new experiences. Looks like you and Janine had a wonderful trip....looks very quaint.

  • Michel,

Thank you for your comments on my beauty post--it is within, and can be seen through the eyes of the soul. Thank you too, for the compliment. I did put up my picture for a short while, then decided to put up a photo of me, as a child--my inner child is alive and kicking. Enjoy your weekend with your family.

  • Great pictures. I want to be there!

  • You took some beautiful photos and have such poetic words of wisdom.

  • You always go to such interesting places!

  • Thank you so much for your kind words, Michel!  I really appreciate it so much!  You are so sweet!  (((Love & Hugs)))

  • Michel,

So glad to have survived the accident--life takes on a different 'hue.' It was not my time. I did put up the other profile picture-LOL.

  • You are so sweet! Must be quite the undertaking, answering all of your comments. You are popular, and it's well-deserved. Thank you again, dear man!

  • amen  michael    it is an adventure for sure !  and fishermen seem to have a big role  always    yes peace is the synbolism of dove too    i guess  i was not feeling that aspect today   lol  God Bless you Michael great pictures as always  love magi

  • J'aime les photos des bateaux. Thank you for sharing your vacation; it sounded quite nice. Thank you also for your kind comment on my blog. I am using an ibook...an apple laptop computer because my desktop computer needs a new fan. Gardening is such an adventure, but I am sad each year when the growing season ends. I know snow is good for the ground and plants need to sleep, but I miss them all in winter. :(

  • Salut Michel!

I'm sorry for not responding sooner to your comments. But I haven't really been paying attention to them. I hope your life is going well!

  • Beautiful pictures, if life couldn't be an adventure, what fun would it be......  Adventure on My Friend, adventure on.....    RYC: I had a really nice welcome sign with a witches broom I intended to paint someday, but alas I lost it in a computer crash.....  I suppose I should just do a design of my own, but I Really Loved the one I had planned on doing......

  • That is absolutely beautiful sights...

  • Hey there!  I'm just giving random props and stopped by to give you some!

  • Hey there!  I'm just giving random props and stopped by to give you some!

  • Yes, life is an adventure; thank you for sharing yours with us.  I also liked the comment you made about my poem.

  • Life is truly the adventure to celebrate. It's wonderful to think of the adventures those ships have seen.

  • One of my fondest wishes is to travel a canal in France. I have seen many documentaries about them. Thank you for the lovely pictures and dialogue.

    With much affection,

    Bev

  • As always I enjoy walking through France and seeing it through your eyes.  Thank you for sharing your journies with all of us out here....way across the big, blue sea.

  • Do you know that you have 96 comments? I am now making it 97...and thats within like...not too many days??????/ That is so unfair! I dont' know how you do it!

  • you have a nice way about you.... i've always liked boats and ships. i've seen a few fishing villages in america and canada, but they wouldn't be as old as ones there.  it's just more romantic being in a fishing village in france. I hope to go to france someday and travel across the country.

    -juli

  • It certainly is.

  • A life that isn't an adventure of some sort, is wasted

  • Now tha is a huge ship! I am surprised you recognized it - is it a famous ship in France. Also sorry about the broken link. It seems to be working now - the server was probably down when you tried Michel. I am sorry about that, particularly that it happened to you twice !

  • I completely understand your comment about NOT wanting to have a lot of money. :)

  • CDCNJCNWD

  • yes omg i am so excited!

Wish me luck on my presentation today. Eeek. I hate talking in front of people!

  • Très, très belles peintures!

  • Michel, we looked and looked and can't find the map of Simonville. It was left behind in the USA on another computer.

  • thank you, michel.  *hugs*

  • Boats and ships and water..what a combination.. Ships cause many a poor boy to get the wanderlust to see new places and experience new things.
