L ' amitié était toujours là .

.......... Son frère Mike étant parti à Bogota et son père Douglas n ' aimant pas écrire , Lynn décida de prendre l ' affaire en mains . Le 13 Août 2000 elle m ' adressa un e.mail qui débuta une correspondance d ' un an et demi . Nous apprenions l ' un à l ' autre la vie de la famille de Douglas et de la mienne . A Noël 2000 nous avons échangé  des videocassettes de la fête dans les deux familles .

  Pendant l ' année 2001 Beverly la femme de Douglas dut rester 6 mois à l ' hôpital après une intervention chirurgicale . Après l ' opération la situation devint très sérieuse avec des conséquences imprévisibles . Pendant cette phase critique Lynn et aussi son mari Wayne me tinrent informé par un e.mail journalier comme pour un membre de la famille . Petit à petit je me sentis solidaire de cette famille si unie autour de leurs parents .

  A la veille du Nouvel An 2002 ils devaient fêter leur 60 ème anniversaire de mariage . Heureusement Beverly était rétablie . Lynn me proposa d ' y aller . J ' acceptais . La surprise fut révélée à Douglas , seulement à Noël ."  Michel arrivera dans deux jours , le 27 décembre ". Quelle surprise ! Et quelle surprise aussi de voir reporter et photographe du Toronto Star attendre mon arrivée à l ' aéroport de Toronto pour relater dans leur journal la rencontre entre un Vétéran canadien et un jeune Français qu 'il avait connu en 1944 .La photographie du journal montre bien la spontaneïté de la rencontre .

  Je fus accueilli par Lynn et son mari Wayne et par les autres membres de la famille comme un frère choisi qu ' on entoure d ' affection mais aussi qu ' on aime taquiner ( je reçus un ou deux cours pratiques de cuisine et même de ....crochet !!! Horreur !  J ' étais complètement incapable pour cette dernière activité malgré les efforts de mon terrible professeur Lynn ) .

   Et ma relation avec Douglas et sa femme Beverly ? Après un an et demi de correspondance je connaisais le Douglas 2001 et lui ,  savait que je n ' étais plus du tout le jeune garçon de 1944 mais un homme mûr , pour le moins . Cependant l ' incroyable arriva . Je retrouvais en moi pour lui et sa femme maintenant le même sentiment de franche camaraderie mêlée de respect comme en 1944 . Bien que des dizaines d ' années étaient passées nous parlions et agissions comme si nous nous étions quittés hier .

  Le temps avait été aboli . L ' amitié était toujours là , permanente , immuable .

                    Frienship always was there .

.......Her brother Mike left for Bogota and her father Douglas being a bad writer , Lynn decided to handle the situation . On the 13 th of August 2000 she sent me an e.mail that began a correspondence over one year and half . We learned each other the Douglas ' family life and the mine . At Christlmas 2000 we exchanged videotapes of the feast in the two families .

  During the year 2001 Beverly , the Douglas ' wife had to remain 6 months at the hospital after a surgery . After the operation the situation became very serious with unpredictable consequences . During this critical phase Lynn and even her husband Wayne kept me informed by a daily e.mail as for a family member . Step by step I felt myself in solidarity with this family so well gathered around their parents .

  At the Eve of the New Year 2002 it was their 60 th wedding anniversary . Fortunatly Beverly was healed . Lynn suggested to me to come . I accepted . The surprise was revealed to Douglas only at Christmas . " Michel will arrive in two days , on the 27th of December " . What a surprise ! And what a surprise also to see Toronto Star ' reporter and cameraman that were waiting for my arrival at the Toronto airport to relate in their newspaper the meeting between a canadian Vet and the french boy he knew in France in 1944 . The newspaper ' s picture will show very well the spontaneity of the meeting .

  I was welcomed by Lynn and Wayne and by other family members like a choosen brother held in great affection with also some friendly taisings ( practice of cooking , of ...crocheting ! ! ! Horror ! I am completely unable for this last activity in spite of the efforts of my terrible teacher Lynn  )

  What about my relation with Douglas and his wife Beverly ? After a correspndence over a year and half I knew the Douglas 2001 and him knew I was no more the boy of 1944 but a mature man at least . However the incredible thing arrived . I felt inside for him , and also his wife now , the same franck friendship mixed with respect as in 1944 . Although tens of years were passed we talked and acted in the same way as if  we had left yesterday .

  Time had been abolished . Friendship was there : permanent , unalterable .
