The Cannes Film Festival

The International Film Festival of Cannes was standing all last week until Saturday May 24, 2014. The Palme d'Or was won by Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan for his film "Winter sleep". Congratulations to him!
This recalled me that Janine and I were in Cannes during the summer of 2008 and we walked around this great movie palace (see wikipedia photo below). As we passed at the side of a staircase I suggested to Janine to climb it, like a movie star. She did but we realized later that it was not the Grand Staircase for the stars, starlets and celebrities .... but back stairs . Bah! stairs always are stairs even without a red carpet .
CoIncidence : last Saturday my cousin René , you know, the one who talks to the seals on the seashore ( http://fauquet.xanga.com/2012/04/21/my-cousin-and-the-seal-seals-song-and-sea-lions/?cref=topblogs) sent to me some photos of his vacation with his wife Chantal on the French riviera and especially of their visit in Cannes. We see at last on the picture above the famous large flight of stairs and its red carpet that Janine had missed . Then we see a team of actors and director of a popular French movie . Prestigious and glorious !!
Quels bons souvenirs !
He sent to me also a photo of his wife Chantal standing on a step ladder to see better the artists and the large red stairs . Please do not think she is at the top of the ladder to shout: " Me too I am a champion and deserve a palm , the palm of the feminine merit " But no she was only in awe in front this exceptional show. What good memories!

The water in the first picture is such a beautiful color. I like it better than the red carpet. I think Chantal and Janine both deserve palms.
You go to the most amazing places, Michel. You are blessed. I loved the photos. I have heard of it, and seen some of it on TV, but I did not know it was so bueatiful.

always wondered what it looked like.
my hubby asked what the heck was Michel over there for and I said,"remember he lives in France?
He said that's right. He took French in high school but doesn't remember any of it.
This brings back memories Michel. Mohamed and I were in Cannes in September of '97, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. We toured the French Riviera and went to Cannes and were taken up the red carpeted stairs and into the grand hall where there were numerous statues and framed pictures of numerous stars, including some Indian film stars. Janine looks very pretty standing on those steps.
I loved the beach at Cannes much better than the one in Nice, which was all pebbly.
Not so long ago Cannes was a fishers' village while Nice is an old and historic town . To be frank I am not keen of those overpopulated beaches !!
So interesting! It must have been exciting for your cousin and his wife. Someday I will make it to France and Germany and even Italy! (It is on the travel agenda when we make our world tour!
What wonderful photos!
It' looks like a memorable, fun event! I've always wondered what it would be like! Thank you for taking us there, Michel!
HUGS!!!
In France we love this slip of language that says light things without say them / I wonder Carolyn if you have not a bit of French blood in the veins !!
Love
Michel
my mom has dementia but she's 88yrs old and I guess it's gotten worse in the last 5 yrs since she's been in the nursing home.
The pictures are beautiful....And all those stairs!! It would have killed me, if I had had to climb them a couple of years ago, but today, they'd be a breeze to climb, a form of good/healthy exercise!!
time sight seeing and people watching is always fun. That is so nice you and your family have your own ways of relaxing and enjoying life. Even if it is going to cannes film festival or just seeing where it takes place.
I really enjoyed going to the South of France when John and I went 4 years ago. Of course I watched the Monaco F1 race on Sunday. Loved your other blogs especially the video of all the family
I can't imagine carrying a step stool around a crowd. lol I'm glad at least Janine got to climb some stairs.
btw: I made another post today to explain the fence business I was talking about.
Ha! Thank you, Michel! I'd be honored to have French blood in my veins!
HUGS!!!
That first photo os absolutely beautiful. The water is such a pretty color.
Looks like you both had a good time and I hope your mrs got a chance to relax and not feel so stressed.
Janine is such a good sport to pose for you on the back stairs. She does look like a French film star.
We have a world class film festival nearby in Palm Springs but I've never made time to go. A friend of mine goes every year and spends the entire week watching one film after another. Sounds exhausting to me!
TY for your comment on my rose photos.
A spectacle I would like to see once in my life. You and Janine are quite the travelers.
Loved the photo in 2008 of Janine on the stairs....a wonderful pic no matter if back or front stairs. Janine and I have triumphed over breast cancer and that makes both of us 'Stars'. Veggie gardens in (I have 2) and beginning to grow and so are the weeds. Temps becoming summer-like. Sky nearly blue every day. What more could one ask of our Lord. Blessing to my 2 French friends. Love Marilyn Thysell <3
Ty so very much for your comments on my rose photos.
RYC: Thank you, Michel, for your kind comments! I am still around...just had a busy past week or so...and I haven't had time to post. I will post again soon. I sent you an e-mail regarding my WordPress site. I have had a site there for over two years now. HUGS!!!
You always post such great pics! It looks like you had a great time!
