Ô Perce - Neige !

Je vous connais depuis des années ,
Au même endroit vous apparaissez .
Le dur hiver, point vous ne craignez
Et , à l ' heure dites vous survenez ,
Sempiternels .

Malgré l ' hivernale rigueur
Vous étalez vos blanches fleurs.
Nous vous croyions morts et desséchés
Mais chaque année vous revivez ,
Immortels .

J ' admire votre ténacité ,
Votre discrète et simple beauté .
Vous annoncez - nous l ' espoir et la paix ?
Etes - vous le signe de l ' Amour qui naît ?
Eternel

This year 2014 le Snowdrops already  are all in bloom , in advance . When I wrote this poem and took the picture it was at the end of february 2003.
The winter had been hard at the opposite of this present year where the weather in our area of Picardy  always was cold and wet but without snow and true frost

O Snowdrop !

I know you for so many years ,
At the same place you do appear .
Of the winter , you are not in fear
And on  time you always are here ,
Sempiternal .

In spite of this so hard winter
You are blooming your white flowers .
We believed you were dried and dead
But every year you rise your head,
Immortal .

I admire your tenacity ,
Your humble and simple beauty .
Do you tell us: Hope and Peace above ?
Are you the sign of the nascent Love ?
Eternal .

Je viens de recevoir un commentaire de sojourner_here disant:. "Quand je relis votre poème et les deux mots qui étaient nouveaux pour moi, j'ai sorti mon dictionnaire. Michel, mon père m'a inculqué l'amour de la langue et de nouveaux mots me rendent heureuse . L'un  était nascent: adj nouvellement conçu, l'autre ,sempiternel: éternel ce qui m'a amené à Semper Fidelis qui est la devise de l'US Marine Corps Alors mon père aussi vous remercie !!! »
Je suis agréablement surpris et honoré de voir que malgré mon anglais rudimentaire, j'ai réussi à enseigner quelque chose à une personne si  cultivée.
Et cela conforte une idée partagée par beaucoup que nous nourrissons notre esprit en questionnant les mots: étymologie, comparaison, diverses significations ou utilisations.
Perce-neige donne matière à réfléchir!

   I have just received a comment from  sojourner_here     saying: "  When I read your poem again and the two words that were new to me, I brought out my dictionary. Michel, my dad instilled in me the love of language and new words make me happy. One was Nascent: Adj. newly conceived , Sempiternal: Eternal; everlasting. Which led me to Semper Fidelis which is the motto of the U.s. Marine Corps. So my dad also thanks you!!! "

 I am happily surprised and honored  to see that despite of  my rudimentary English ,I have succeeded to teach something to a so cultured  person.

And this comfort an idea shared by many that  we nourish our mind in questionning the words : etymology, comparaison, various meanings or uses.

Snowdrop gives matter to think!
