The beach at the post office/I was a captain of ferry-boat.
Note préalable . Preliminary note
L’ ouragan Sandy s'est abattu sur la côte est des Etats-Unis dévastant tout et en particulier Manhattan à New York . Mes pensées vont vers les USA et spécialement pour les amis de Xanga qui ont été touchés .
The hur ricane Sandy struck the east coast of the United States, destroying everything and Manhattan in New York was flooded . My thoughts go to the USA and especially for the Xanga friends who have been affected;

On a more cheerful tone, let me tell you what happened to me at the post office yesterday in the afternoon. I waited my turn to go to the counter and I looked at a sort of TV screen hung on the wall. It seemed to be a sunny beach with a small shelter. But what was strange it was to see a man dressed in black wearing a black hat. I looked more closely and I moved one leg, the man on the screen did the same. I moved an arm, it was exactly the same. It is then that I had a flash of understanding. I did not watch a TV but a checking monitor. The camera was shooting behind my back. The light coming from the large windows gave on the screen an impression of beach due to the reflection..
I told the woman behind the counter my impressions of Mediterranean beach with a man dressed in black. We laughed a good heart. It does not take much to amuse the children forever

J ' étais un capitaine de ferry boat
I was a captain of ferry-boat.
English version below the picture
Je reparle de ce rêve que j’ ai déjà décrit il ya quelques années parce qu’il m’ avait beaucoup frappé et que mon ami @Carlo a parlé de rêve à propos de » la plage à la poste » ; mais à la poste ,ce n’ ‘était pas un rêve .I was worried on this day of 1966 as I had just been told I was the new captain of a ferry boat in Boulogne-sur -mer harbour ( Northern France ) .and I knew absolutely nothing about this job .
Whatever my wife Janine and I were on the quay in the early morning .
Our 4 years old Carole already was installed on board and looked at us through a window of the boat in smiling
I went on the deck of the ferry- boat that looked deserted
I knew there was no fuel in the tank that I had to fill. What fuel to buy ? Where to buy it? How to put it in the tank? Where was the hole for that ? How to pay the bill ? I walked towards the foredeck and saw a pump for boat no far .
- I shouted for the pump attendant : “ Do you have oil ? ”
- Yes , he said . What kind of oil do you want?
At this moment a woman who lived in a house near the quay and hearing us from her window told me out loud :
" Take a good one so that your machines don't stop at the middle of the Channel of Dover ! "
- Give me "Premier" oil , I told the pump man . ( Premier is the best quality )
I was relieved to see him coming in hauling a huge and without end hose.
- “ My boat is not the first but the second “ I told him by fear he puts the oil in another boat !
I saw him crossing the boat from right to left pulling his hose .
The hole to fill the tank was located on the left outside the boat and the man had to bend forward dangerously over the handrail to put the oil .
The crew came progressively and I told them I didn’t remember the name of the company owner of the boat .I needed to know to pay the oil bill to the pump man .
During this time , this last one was looking intensively at something and he said :
- “You have a tire completely torn! “Tire? Wheel? My boat had wheels !!!!!???? I started to faint .
The crew said it was useless to change it but I decided to do it ……. for the honour of the ………British Navy!!!!
At this moment the bell of the boat rang then progressively the sound became like the one of a spoon mixing coffee in a cup; I opened an eye . Janine were ther , sat on the edge of our bed, bringing me a cup of coffee early in the morning at eight and half on this day of November 2000.
I had dreamt. And I wrote immediately my dream which took place 34 years before ..
Finally the dreams multiply your life and make you live adventures and situations completely unexpected , sometimes happy , sometimes stressful but always creative. I recall which I have already described some years ago because I was struck by it and my friend @Carlo spoke of dream about "the beach at the post office" in his comment but it was not a dream at the post office.

That would be nice to look at while waiting in the long lines in December.
that's funny mornin glorie....but I think a beach at the post office would be great, instead of snail mail you could have sand mail!
Happy All Saint's Day a day early! ilym :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat:
I always enjoy your drawings. What a great story! Sounds like an intriguing TV show.
It is amazing the tricks light can play on ones eyes.
:heartbeat: :heartbeat:Thank you for your kind thoughts of our country. The beach camera was funny: you are so much fun! You make even the post office a comedy!
:heartbeat:
We might as well admit it.....it has to do with the getting older thing. You notice I did not use the words getting old!
Answer to mlbncsga I love the words game: sand mail and sendmail!!
I think that would be fun; they should project the people in line to a beach, or a winter wonderland at Christmas time, or a beautiful forest, or...
Wouldn't that help the tedium of waiting in line?
I think that's a million dollar idea!
Now that gave me a chuckle. You could have had a lot of fun with that.
What a sweet story!
That's a good story & sure, it is good to have a laugh. Again, I appreciate your return to my site. RYC: Actually, you can access me on YouTube. I have 2 videos on there that were put on by other people. Neither song I sing is strictly Irish or Celtic, but is related. When I was a child I loved poetry and especially those written by American poet, James Whitcomb Riley (whose surname is thought to be Irish). Much later in life, in 90's, I revisted his poem, "Little Orphan(t) Annie", and a tune came to me to put with it. It is a poem that can be related to Halloween. I sang it when I was in children's area a few years ago at CelticFest in Jackson, Mississippi. A friend took a liking to it and recorded it as a video which he then put on YouTube. It can be found by searching my name (which will send to you privately) and the title, "Little Orphan Annie" (minus the "t"). The other YouTube is of my singing a hymn, "The Ninety and Nine". This was recorded several years ago at the church of blogger friend Godfather56 where I was invited to take part in their Gospel Sing. The hymn has Scottish connection. The composer put music to a poem written by a Scottish woman who was known for writting poems for children, and the poem was published in a Scottish newsletter. There is more to that story, but this comment already is long, so I'll give you the full story privately along with using my name to find these on YouTube. ~~Blessings & Cheers
made me smile this evening ~
You have a way of seeing the small wonderful things of life.
That was so sweet Michel. Such an endearing post. Love the sketches you make. :heartbeat:
My grandchildren stand in front of the monitor and make faces and amuse themselves. My son used to do the same thirty years ago.
From your drawing I thought it was a cowboy on the screen.
TY so very much for your comment on my post about Ali being in trouble for destroying my kitchen curtains
My thoughts go to the people on the coast too. When it's cold it's miserable to be without power and to lose a house so much worse!
:goodjob:i love the story and your drawing makes it even sweeter!! great! :sunny: yes let our thoughts and prayers be with those affected by hurricane sandy. g'nite cher michel! i'm pooped! :heartbeat:
:heartbeat:
I enjoyed the Post Office story and the drawing. :sunny:
That is rather amusing, Michel! One must love modern technology!
Cheers!!
Specially on a rainy cold day what we need is a sunny beach. Why the man had to wear black was not very logic, but when are dreams logic?.
I'm sure was a voyage of travel in the past too, going to La Marquise. It is a good thing to do this kind of pilgrimage.

How funny--thanks for making me smile this morning. Bet the lady behind the counter got a good laugh too !!! Enjoy your day my friend
Answer to@ carlo above : I found a logic : the dark image of my back was given by the electronic camera directly on the screen of the monitor and the impression of white background ( the beach) was a virtual image given by reflection on the glass of the screen of the light coming from the window .
There was an interference between the two sorts of images !
It's nice that you mentioned it to the woman behind the counter. So often we forget the things we neglect to share...

That is a great story. Your drawing tells the story very well. Thank you for your thoughts for the people in the path of Sandy. Some people in our area are still without power but we were very fortunate that most of our area was spared
I see that now you are a TV celebrity! Will the fame swell your head or will you remain humble?
Ty so much for your comment on my halloween chuckle Michel.
RYC: Toronto wasn't hit so badly as some places to the south of us (i.e. New York), but there were still some high winds and rain here. One lady was killed downtown when she was hit by a sign that came loose and was thrown in the wind.
In the office where we work, our computers are hooked up to the systems in New York - - so when New York lost network power, we did as well (no computer network access, no phones, no e-mail), and we left the office early for a couple of days until the systems were repaired, because we were unable to do our work. But otherwise, Wendy and I are fine.
Thank you for your concern, Michel, I do appreciate it! Best wishes!
Thank you for your compassion for our Sandy victims.
Your happy imagination worked for you at the post office.
Blessings, Michel
Frank
Thanks so much for dropping by. As for McDonalds--your right--lots of other places to eat--we wont go there again !
That is funny Michel
we do not know where cameras are nowadays. I was in Rhode Island/Boston during Sandy so I know how bad it was. If you look on FB you will see photos of my trip. Mum is feeling much better and is now able to walk freely and the nurses do not come to her daily anymore.
I think the onces that involve my being misaken are always the finest!! I am so glad you had that to brighten your day. You have inspired me to share a story that happened to me yesterday. I shall post it now.
Happy weekend, my friend!!
Ha, I have done the same thing, looked at the security monitors and not realized it was me! Thanks for your kind words and thoughts.
That would creep me out, I tell ya. Like a reverse mirror in a fun house.
That is so funny! Hello Michel! I must post more often to xanga! Have a wonderful weekend.
Glad to see I'm not the only one easily amused as our kids would say.
I take it you like shiny objects, too? :giggle:
And no worries vis-a-vis the monitor at the Post Office, I've done the same !
xoxo
TY so very much for your comments on my post of the mums Michel and there seem to be a lot of things on Xanga not working right now including the rec button. I am sure they will be fixing it all soon.
TY so very much for your comments on my spring time flowers post.
Thank you for those thoughts. RYC's: Politics isn't my strong suit, but there are some ideas that are just dangerous and it puts us in precarious positions. The Nuns: now they are just so cool and I'm glad to see this part to religion. =)
TY so very much for your comments on my photo of Td with the sunset behind him.
Thanks so much for your concern, Michel! We are all fine, here. The coastline of RI was also severely hit but we are a bit inland and so escaped most of the storm's fury. We did not even lose power at my house, but my sister and brother both lost power...since restored. We had planned a birthday trip to Pittsburgh for Neil's 50th birthday with Julie on the weekend before the storm hit. So our good friend Julie was in town for the storm! Neil and Julie drove out to Pittsburgh but I remained behind in case the storm traveled faster. We did not want to take that chance with the children home alone! Neil and Julie saw the game but then left straight away for home instead of spending the evening in Pittsburgh. That was a disappointment for Neil but he was glad that he at least got to see the game! They drove through the night and were able to be here before the storm. Julie then spent the storm with her relatives in Massachusetts. So....it was an adventure but all are fine! The children got 2 days out of school so they were happy, too. Our hearts go out to all those suffering losses from this storm, it is a terrible thing!
I am fine, my friend. Just a little lost. Trying to sort things out. I hope you are well. Will try to be on more in the next couple of weeks.
By the way, your story of the post office made me smile. I have a similar tale to tell. Last week I was at work (I work in a school for children with disabilities). At the time I was alone in my classroom with one student, he was sitting in his wheelchair listening to music. As I faced the door to my classroom (which has a window in it) I could see his reflection in the window. I could also see in the reflection a figure leaning tenderly over my student. Startled I looked back...there was no one there! It took a minute for me to understand...opposite my classroom is another classroom also with a window in the door. The figure I was seeing (a woman who worked in that classroom) was in the classroom across the hall in just the perfect posture to appear to be bending over the reflection of my student. I also shared a laugh with this woman later!
Michel, I loved this story!! I had a good laugh, for sure. : )
It reminded me of myself and mirrors they have different places and I didn't realize it until I eventually realized that it was "me" that I saw moving. lol It wasn't so funny the time that I saw someone [yeah, who ended up being ME!] but before I realized that, I was thinking that the person really should lose some weight. Well, yes ... "I" really do need to. lol
Have a nice day, Michel and give my love to Janine.
Debi
P.S. I had thought about blogging here again but then instead I decided to get a WordPress blog which I'm paying for hosting for but it'll be a little while before I get it up and going because I don't know a lot about setting it up the way that I want to.
The link to it is: http://www.storybookwoods.com Not much there at this time but if you'd like to check it out, that is the link to it. : ) I hope that with my paying each month to have it hosted, that I will be much more faithful in writing on it, ya know?
I enjoyed the picture you painted with your words and the drawing you shared. Blessings abound.
That was a nice dream indeed. Chuckled over how you didn't recognize yourself in the TV!
Thank you for sharing the story about your experience as ferry boat captain, and also for the drawing as an illustration. As you know, I was gone over weekend before Halloween. When I returned on 29th, there was so much waiting for me to tend to and respond to. I still don't think I have caught up. I really appreciate that you accessed my songs on YouTube, and for your gracious compliments. As to your suggestion about sharing them on Xanga, I think I did post something about them after they were put on YouTube, but that was some years ago. I believe I included links to each YouTube. I may have to go back in my postings to see if that is the case. If not, I'll see what can be done to share them, but I believe I'm going to need a hiatus from Xanga after I complete the "Proverbial Wisdom" series. Thank you again for being such a faithful visitor to my site. ~~Blessings and Cheers
I also thank you mentioning Sandy's victims. It is a terrible experience for those who've lost those dear to them and also for those who've survived. May we continue to pray for them.
Dreams and imagination -- we would not be quite so human without them, oh, and a good sense of humour always helps
hope the US eastern seaboard hangs in there
Thanks for sharing. Monitors at the public premises can be unnerving, and funny!
You sure had my curiosity going, about the tire on the ferry!! And when you talked about the guy in the post office....wonder how many laughs the guy observing the camera has had over the years. LOL
Ty so very much for your congrats on my sober time and I am happy to be living free without any substance controlling my mind and thoughts:)
That was it is called 'Coffee with a dream'. What a nice way to wake up.

Le Capitan!I would join Janine and ride in the boat with you!
I hope you have more dreams that are this entertaining! Smiles....as they say in American, "good going, ya big lug!" I would say that is a shy term of endearment. HUGS! Or should I say, "Aye, aye, cap tain!"
Michel that almost sounds like a nightmare. :giggle: I seldom remember dreams and sure don't remember any of years ago.
As always, a great post, Michel! Love the "A la poste" one! It made me chuckle.
We were right in the path of the hurricane, but are farther inland. Fortunately we surived it with NO incident, but the rain was very heavy and the winds were ferocious (very LOUD!). I am so sorry for the people who still have no electricity and suffered damage from the strong winds and flooding. I hope you and Janine are well.
Amitie,
Gary
Stressful boat dream. But Janine was with you. :sunny:
Enjoyed your dream. It is amazing how things that happened many many years ago suddenly come back to us. Have a great week with your special lady.......<3 Marilyn
I always enjoy your posts so much. I had to laugh at one about the post office and beach
Dreams are so strange at times. Some happy and some not happy at all. Sending love
to all of you, Nancy
:heartbeat: :heartbeat: RYC: you're too kind but thank you!! My party has lost the election...but we win for good manners! lol :sunny:
How funny are the things we dream, I love the drawing with Carole looking from a port hole, you looking confused on deck and Janine standing there in her high heel shoes and luggage :heartbeat: You were wise to write down your dream, I dream but hardly ever remember them for more than a few moments - I should get a tablet for the bedside and begin writing them imediately  Thanks for the laugh this morning
ilym
TY so very much Michel for your kind comments concerning TD's health and the Dr already believes TD has a form of dementia and will know for sure after we get the results back from the MRI he had this morning in the city.
I just love reading both your stories Michel. It made me smile despite my feeling unwell. I really like your sketches too
I bet that lady behind the counter had a good laugh with you too heheheehe :giggle:
Hi Michel, i just got a bit of flu at the moment
I hope to get better soon before i head back to my hometown for a family visit
RYC: China are also having the presidential elections, but there is very different.
China are starting to have some problems too. They will allow again to have more than one baby. (Too many old people).Times are changing.
Now by relating and illustrating your adventure on the boat, you will have assurance that you won't forget it...So many interesting things can come from dreams....new ideas..solutions to problems and just plain fun adventures.
I love to dream...It's like being in another life.
Thank you for thinking of us over here. Our son and his family are suffering from that storm and now another storm...a snow storm.
Thank you for comments and concern.
Love,
votre amie,
