    Charge à cheval

    Horse charge

     English version below the picture

    2ème boucle
Carole horseback  running in the plains in Artois ( province of France )
    Carole parcourant à cheval les^plaines d'Artois ( province française )

My oldest daughter Carol, a nurse, is also passionate about horses. She wrote to me lately:

"Last Saturday I made a ride of 66 kms long ( 41 miles) with Upsilon, her Arabian chestnut horse, near Arras during 5 hours .. I am very proud of my horse "

She loves to be horseback and have a ride among the plains and the hills of Artois, a province of Northern France and sometimes mountains ( Vosges near Germany )

I would have loved to show here a photo of a xanganfriend   @judyrutrider who shares the same passion but she had not any photo since she rides alone horseback in the montains in America.

Those ladies could be in the last regiment of cavalry of  France , the one of the Republican Guard of Paris  , founded by Napoleon .

    Horse and art

Horse is not only a animal for work, race or battles , he is also an artist.
I always have been fond of this video above posted by a Xanga Friend , @Kathy, riding her horse in her arena the first of January of this year . I was fascinated by the style and the elegance and also by the harmonious unity between the horse and the rider . The movement is fluid and flexible :  a grand art !

The horse is also a dancer . What is more admirable than the group of lippizaner horses dancing the polka at the Spanish  Riding School of Vienna in Austria . This school has been founded by the Emperor of Austria in the XVIIth century . See the video above .  The idea to show this has been given to me in a comment by a friend who is going to Slovenia nextly to see those famous Lipizzaner stallions .

  • My ancestor was at Waterloo in the 23rd Royal Regiment of Foot. Bright red coats, white belts and shiny metal. He phoned me to say they had great fun shooting the French cavalry from their horses. But he cried when he remembered shooting a horse. People can be strange.

  • I also have a huge passion for horses, I had the chance to exchange all my gym credits for riding ^-^ We had 6 horses while growing up mine was an arab too called Jirafa (jiraffe). They were sold when I went to Mexico but I miss riding a lot.

  • Looks like fun!

  • That sounds like great fun. Do they break the trip up with camping? or do they ride the whole 41 miles at once? My behind is hurting just thinking about that!

  • Beautiful horse ~

  • Answer to angi1972   : they ride the whole 41 miles at once

  • That is a most beautiful horse. I loved to ride like that when I was younger. Have not done so in many years. I think my old body would be very upset with me if I tried it now.

  • I have been riding but not often enough. Your daughter is fortunate to have horses to ride and a place to ride.

  • I have an emotional affinity for horses. I wished that I had one when I was a child. I also wished that we could have owned a horse when my children were growing up. There was a pasture not far from our house where we could have boarded one. It would cost, but I thought it would be worth it. Every year, I've watched the races that constitute the Triple Crown in U.S. This year, I regret I've missed both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and I'm not sure what date the Belmont is run this year. These do not seem to be advertised as frequently this year as in the past. Thank you for sharing Carol's experiences. ~~Blessings & Cheers

  • What a great "hobby" and one that will last all her life whether she rides alone or with friends.

  • I have friends who love to ride.  They find their freedom and peace with their horses, much like I do with music.  My horse experiences can be counted on maybe a hand and a half. Ride on!

  • Nice photo. I have never been riding, but have always wanted to. :goodjob:

  • Wonderful post.  I know you are proud of her.

  • That sounds like such fun! I've only been on a horse a couple of times; I can't say I rode, really. There was a place not too far from here, that offered "trail rides" - do disappointing. Not really about learning to ride, more like placing people on a horse and leading them around a short distance. The horses were not pleased and kept trying to rub off their passengers against every tree they could. The "trail" was short and not scenic, basically a view of the back end of the horse in front of you. But to know how to ride, to have your own horse, and the freedom to travel through the land, now, that is the way to do it! Does she go by herself or in a group?

  • That is a wonderful hobby. But, very  expensive.

  • Hi Michel.  I used to ride horses, when I was in my 20's.  I never owned

one, though.   They are magnificent creatures.   A wonderful photo of

your Caroline.   I saw the movie, War Horse, here in America, and it

showed how the horses were used, (in war)--WWI, and II.   It was most

interesting.   The charge, was just like, the French versian here.   Probably,

where they got it from.   Ah, you ask, why Iran in my story?  Because in

the beginning, of my story, (Story 1)--I have mentioned, how Erik used to

live in Iran, and how he almost, was killed there.   Nadir, (his persian friend)-

saved him.  Hence their friendship.   I merely, borrowed this information from

the real story of the Phantom of the Opera, from Leroux, and embellished

a little, upon it.     Put my own ideas into it.  It was good to see you my friend.

  • A very beautiful horse!  41 miles!  I would think my hiney would be sore! =)  I just wanted to let you know that my congressman wrote me and informed me of the new algae to fuel plant they are building in Iowa.  I'm praying that this will bring more jobs to the working class. =)  http://www.bioprocessalgae.com/archives/299

  • ''Michel, your daughter shares Anne's passion for horses. It is good to see a horse charge in peace. AMEN''

'' Michel, la passion de votre fille part Anne pour les chevaux. Il est bon de voir une charge à cheval dans la paix. AMEN'' :sunny:

  • Lovely photo Michel.

  • how lovely!
i am going to slovenia to see lippizaner horses - your daughter should go there too!

  • WOW that was some video!

I wonder if your daughter took a rest stop in that ride? Ah I see she didn't.

  • That was quite a ride!  I bet she enjoyed every minute of it

  • RYC:  Will work on a post, but that is why I favored the algae so much.  It has the potential to free up to 25 million acres of US farmland for food production.  Because Iowa does use corn for biofuel, it's the only reason why we didn't get hit as hard from the recession but with floods in the last few years and this year is so dry due to an unusual warm and dry winter, crops won't be as good which with the algae, it can be grown anywhere.  Deserts, ocean coasts, unusable farmland... however I don't think that is what the Big Oil guys want to hear since they have half of my country convinced that there is an unlimited amount of oil.  My question is:  if there is an unlimited amount of oil, then why is it so high, especially during President Bush's years?  And also, why do the wells keep drying up? (shakes head)

  • She could have reached Waterloo if she had kept going.1 miles is a long distance and i suppose was done not on a regular road. oes she do some kind of competion? Dressage?

  • Answer to  carlo :/ Not Waterloo I prefer Tipperary because " It's a long way to Tipperary, It ' s a long way to go ......"  ( famous song )My daughter rides only for the pleasure to ride . No competition if not with herself!

  • Wonderful photo of your lovely daughter om horseback. Ty so much for your kind and comforting comments on my post about my sister's passing.

  • :goodjob: He is very beautiful, I'm sure she loves him very much!

  • Very thrilling video Michel!  The speed of the horses was amazing!  A little scary.  Everyone looked handsome in the uniforms.

Thank you for your encouraging comment. I agree with you.

  • Carol must be very fit to ride for so long , after all this time of knowing your family I never realised that Carol was a nurse like Louise. In fact its going to be a Burke/Essex tradition as Paul's daughter is training to be a nurse and Tom is going to start studying on a pre nurse course in September

  • The horse is truly a majestic animal, and with its rider a sight to behold. The is a strong bond between a rider and the horse, stronger than many friendships and marriages!!!

  • I would kill to own your daughters horse.a Stunning animal.

  • Michel, I should like to regale you with a tale. In college a young lady friend of mine and I cared for two of her horses. The one, a chestnut American Quarter horse named "Lady" was mine to care for. Then one evening the farmer's son left the gate open to the pasture and the mare escaped onto the highway and was struck by a truck. We had no choice but to have her euthanized. I was deeply saddened by the loss and made several drawings, etchings and even a bronze statue in her memory.

I love the images of horses in art. I love to see horses perform. Even to this day I will stop along the country highway at a pasture with horses and just sit and watch them.

Thank you for sharing in these things with me, and thank you for inviting me to return and view them again. I am again moved to experience the great love that is shared between mankind and equine.

  • Michel, my experience with horses has not been so good.  I did better jumping from airplanes than riding on horses!

  • The Youtube video of the charging horses made my heart pound. It is very powerful.

  • In the countryside, just outside the city where I live, there is a large farm of Lipizzan Horses. They have weekend times all winter when you can see the horses practice their routines. You can see and read about it at this site http://www.hlipizzans.com/
Watching them is a delightful joy.

I apologize for not yet knowing how to present places on the net that you only have to click and not copy/paste.

Thank you, Michel, for sharing all kinds of wonderful things with us.

  • 66 kms. Formidable! Horses are beautiful creatures. Thanks for sharing.

  • I grew up with Arabs at home; they are such great horses. And great for endurance riding too! I miss having horses...

  • RYC:  You are absolutly right about water and food coming first, which I'm excited about how we can make drinking water from the algae to fuel process!  Technology has come a long way and hopefully we can clean up some of this pollution. http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=76127  We can start by scraping the algae off the lakes and I know there is a whole bunch in the China Sea and on the northwest part of Norway which is endangering the fishing industry there.  Anyway... thank you so much for your support!  You have been awesome with giving me info and support. =)

  • horses are indeed beautiful... but they're not for all of us :D

  • Wonderful!

@DonnaLou - The Belmont Stakes is on June 9, post time 6:30

  • I have always had a fastination with horses but never had the opportunity to ride or be around them so, I admire them from afar.  They are magnificant animals. Your daughter is and accomplished horsewoman.   That is wonderful for her.

  • I love riding horses but haven't in many years. I did take my mom to the Cavalia show before she passed and we both absolutely loved it. I'm pretty sure the shows creators are from France. I love France! :)

So sorry I haven't been around in a long while. Been soul searching - still looking! But I always adored you and hope you are doing well.

  • Have never rode a horse, haven't been around horses.  Admire your daughter Carole and her endurance of riding 41 miles all at once.  She is a true 'horsewomen'.   Enjoyed the photo 'charging'.

    Enjoy your weekend.................love, Marilyn

  • Michel ryc: I have a love of glass, door knobs, insulators, bowl of fruit, etc. Old door knobs used to be clear, if in the sun long periods they turned purple due to what was used while making.

Endoscopic surgery refers to the small entrance they make in the wrist to insert instruments. One has a light on it. You can read here about it.

  • @badtimin - The post time here is earlier than 6:30 PM. I will be in the air during the time. Unless the economy cabin on my flight has a TV, I will miss it. However, there will be a layover & I may be able to see part of it on TV at the airport. Thank you for thinking of me. I was able to look it up online & find out.

  • TY so very much for your kind comments on my relay for life post.

  • Thank you for stopping by to check on me ! Sometimes I just get behind. I read your storys a lot--and always enjoy them--I will get caught up soon !!

  • Ty so very much for your comments on my post about Ali hurting her paw.

  • This town used to have an event every year where the Lippizaner horses would arrive and tour the country. Thank you for posting this Michel.
Your daughter looks very comfortable on the horseback.

  • You know what I like!

  • Horses are a work of art. When we went to see the famous Lipizzaner stallions in training it was a beautiful painting come to life.

  • Answer to mcbery   : They say that " the most beautiful conquest of man: is the horse."

  • I like the dancing horse, so beautiful.  I thank you for your nice words, about

the engagement of Saber and Katriane.  (I wish, my own was so passionate.).

Yet, I love deeply, the man I am married too.  Love, R. Hood

  • Thanks for the kind words! I've always thought I'd like to be an artist with paint and brush. Maybe I can be an artist with the camera!

  • Ty so very much for your comments and support about my sisters memorial service.

  • I am so glad you posted this!!! I love the lippizzaner stallions. I saw them here when they were touring America  I share your daughter's love of horses!! This last weekend I atttended a 65th reunion of my high sdhool class and on classmate remembered riding in tthe uodeos here with my brother. Here is the note he wrote me about his dad who loved horses as well.

"Before WWII Dad started the 4th of July horse shows. There were dozens of classes for all kinds of horses and ponies I remember the big wagon with 6 horses hitched to them. Busch brought their Clydsdales and a man from Boone, Iowa brought his Belgiums and Percherons (black). Their wagons were beautiful!)

I loved Richard for writing this since he knew I could not hear! His wife later held a conversation that I had no idea what she said. I was so gla when she stopped speaking!

This is why I haven't posted, Michel. Thank you, dear friend, for noticing! I shall post tomorrow.

  • Hi Michel. I have a good friend who owns horses and I love to go out there to see them. I will let others ride them, however. They scare me... just so big and powerful.

  • Ty so very much Michel for your comment on my poppies photo post.

  • Thank you for the kind comments! I really enjoy your visits. That animal wasn't real. It was a fake coyote. I thought I'd explain that over on my blog too. I hope your week-end is wonderful with lots of family around.

  • 41 miles is a long time to ride. I enjoyed your post.

  • Thank you Michel for sharing these pictures and videos of the beautiful horses. The horse is such a majestic animal, isn't it! Carol looks very comfortable and happy with Upsilon.

  • I love your Xanga posts!  I have seen the white Lippizans three times in my life. One time was in 1976 in Austria.  I will never forget visiting their stables (marble stalls no less!) and watching a live performance!
