Joe and Sarah :" We are going to the grandma' s with our red car "

Is it possible to dream in a supermarket ?

Joe ( 2 years old ) and Sarah ( 4 years ) coming from England ( Dover ) have just landed to Calais ( France ) with their mother . They are a little tired by the crossing of the channel by boat . Their grand mother Janine has come from Amiens by car to pick and bring them to Amiens . But , before , the ladies needed a short visit to the huge supermarket situated near Calais . Any trolleys look like a small car . Young children like them . I wonder if they will recall that . Perhaps are they the ones who are dreaming into this place of consumption ? Do you like the supermarkets ?

  • Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart, have you begging please,
begging please...

  • aren't those buggies cute!!  i hope you have a nice visit with your grand children :)

    i love supermarkets : )

  • I prefer the true farmer's markets to the supermarkets.  Still, of course, in the farmer's markets, one has to be keen about *bargains* since some *bargains* are sometimes closer to ruin than ripe.

  • I love buying the groceries, I just don't like putting them away.  Have fun with the family.  By the way, I have a cousin with your daughter's name, but she spells it JaNeen.  It is not a common name here.

  • Oops, your wife's name... not your daughter's... too early yet!

  • We have those here too! I wish they had them when my kids were small. It would have helped to distract them from WANTING while I shopped.

  • I guess you are taking about Cite Europe Centre ,I go there every time I am over . My daughter and I went there last year with my grandaughter Alice and she went into one of those cars which are great fun for them while you are shopping

  • I only go to the supermarket when I have to!   Beautiful kids there, Michel.

  • I love the new supermarket that opened up near us!  But, it's the only one I really like!  Those little cars are just adorable!

  • "Like" the supermarket?  Not really!  I seem to spend all of my time and money there!  But perhaps if someone pushed me in one of these cars, I could endure!  What sweethearts!  Have a marvelous visit!

(I hope this translation makes sense!  The words are odd to me!)

"Comme" le supermarché? Pas vraiment! Je semble dépenser tout mon temps et argent là-bas! Mais peut-être si quelqu'un m'a poussé dans celui de ces voitures, je pourrais endurer! Quels bien-aimés! Avoir une visite merveilleuse!

  • A grand photo!

  •  Yes englishjuls  you are right . It was in the city Europe Center

  • I'm not a supermarket fan. I always get the impression that supermarket food is 'dead'. I prefer the real market and smaller shops. On the other hand, I do shopping for food and there is lads of food in a supermarket What a lovely picture!

  • i think it's cool that they have those little cars for kids there at the market...  must get busy though!

  • The carts are a great idea to keep the children entertained while shopping. That's a cute picture of them!!! :)

  • What fun shopping would be with cute cars for the babies!!! How sweet and ernest they look ... It must be fun for them, I believe!

    m{eye}k

  • This looks likes a supermarket I'd like to visit... VRROOOM

  • I know those hypermarkets!  Places of torment and pain.  I don't know why we bother with all that just to get cheap toilet rolls.  However, I'll be there in September!  kind regards,  Tom

  • ...Michel, the photo is adorable! Sitting side by side, there is not much difference between Joe and Sarah's waist to shoulder height.
...have not seen that kind of cart around here, think they are fantastic! My grandson would love to be driving around a store.
...i hate to shop, not because of the "supermarkets" per se but the rude treatment of customers as cattle. I perfer the ambiance of a smaller store but the selection of the larger. I enjoy visiting a 'SUPERmarket' to look, vs shopping, at the new and innovative products available. Shopping puts one in direct contact with the pervailing indifference of employees/ management while looking is hassle free.
...consumption, as in scoping up everything as a must have, is a different level of shopping. People buy too much of what they don't need and then are concerned with storage. For me, less is more. MuSe

  • I like supermarkets and shopping...

  • I enjoy going to the supermarket...I loved going with my mom so much...When she passed away, i stopped going to the supermarket we used to go to, for a while..I couldnt bear it...

Love the photo of the adorable kids..

    Enjoy your visit...

  • I love the supermarket, even though I am too old to ride in the shopping cart. It is such a coincedence, I have company from England, as well.

  • Supermarkets can be very handy.  They sell so many different things, and all at one stop.  However, I miss the small stores of my childhood where the owners knew the customers.  I always prefer those things that are individual and personal.  Supermarkets are all alike and very impersonal.

  • I really like supermarkets... there is so much there!!!

  • I love supermarkets, the bigger the better. They have some here though, that have more then just groceries, they have home furnishings, towels, plants,  all kinds of take-out foods. I could spend hours in  there LOL!!!

  • I'm afraid I don't like going to the grocery store. It's not as much fun for me. The kid carts are cute, though!

  • Calais was mentioned in A tale of two cities

  • Yes I like supermarkets because you can get everything in one go and I like to shop quickly especially for food. The children look cute, I wish they wouldn't put these kids cars in the Malls, as all the children scream to go on them, and their distracted mothers either give in and rake out the coins, or drag them off screaming. I have an awful habit of impulse buying, bought an electric fire yesterday knew I didn't really want that one, so going to take it back Thursday. When I do that I put it on my credit card which is usually empty, as they always change those with no auguement. Especially 'Big W' which is part of the Woolworths chain, do you have them in France? Cheers Marjie

  • I don't like to go grocery shopping.  I have not figured out why.....

But if I go to the supermarket (grocery store) when I am hungry - then I spend way too much money.

Everything looks good, when you are hungry.

I often think of the poor people in other countries that go for days without eating.  I often wonder, if they have ever been inside of a grocery store, or even know what it is ?

I guess we take that for granted.

In some countries - we worry about trying to loose weight and not getting too fat.

In other countries - they are skin and bone, wondering if they will ever see food again.

What a difference in life styles ???

    wow.

All this thought from grocery stores.... ?

    How fortunate we are....

  • It took me 4 hours to go to my supermarket today,  do my shopping and then drive home. The market is only about 6 miles away, but the traffic was backed up to within 2 miles of my home. It was bumper to bumper traffic and it was almost at a standstill.

The store was so crowded that it was almost impossible to shop. I did not buy everything that I needed to, so will have to finish another day. Do I enjoy supermarkets?? Usually, but not today.

Beautiful picture of your grandchildren!!! Have a good week, Michel!

  • The little red cars are invading my local supermarket area. Not sure where they came from, but the local company apparently got bought up by a foreign firm from Australia. Their gimmic is using little red cars for younger shoppers to ride in.

  • Oh Wow!! I enjoy supermarkets, I will definitely enjoy it better with those small cars although, we don't have them here in Florida.

You are very fortunate to have such cute and adorable grand kids.

  • What a great idea for kids. I wish we had them when mine were little. I love to eat, but hate to shop in supermarket. Love little gourmet shops.

  • Aww those cars are cute!! The two in it are even cuter I think kids dream of things and much more than we even know. Imaginations of children are unbelievable. I think that as we get older we tend to lose our ability to dream

  • So these two grand-kids of yours are English? =P

  • what a beautiful site

  • I just returned to Fargo, North Dakota from England (and Dover).

    very interesting

  • Sweet, those two.

  • Here in Po'bunk we don't have little cars in the supermarkets yet. That little red car brought back some sweet memories of a little red car my neighbor boy kindly shared with me when I was young.

  • I mean that it is ironic that we both have visitors from England at the same time.

  • Awfully cute, but wait till they have to trade them in for real cars, and are paying for real groceries for their own kids! (Sometimes I wish I could hop back in the play car!)

  • Aww, hehe, how cute!!
I sometimes wonder though in the supermarkets whats more dangerous - the normal trolleys or car trolleys?!?
    All the best, A.

  • I love them. Still do not know why; maybe it a female instinct or something. Once, when leaving a party late at nigh, I went to take a taxi and there was a 24-hour supermarket nearby. I simply entered into it and spent some good time there... Is it normal? Nice photo... cute children... even if they dont remember that, I´m sure thy´ll be able to see this blog one day! Have a good day, Michel

    Shy

  • How very adorable!

  • The world is like one big supermarket

  • Oh Michel, this is fun! Those faces!!!

I always wanted to give my children a car like that, and a little house. I don't know if you know "little tikes", the houses with a "real" roof, windows and doors.

I never could and now they're almost too old....almost... but I've never won the lottery, so this chance will pass.

But I see that grandchildren can give the same feeling of joy!

I don't like supermarkets, but when they have thse items...well, that's another story isn't it??

    Have a nice day!

  • I love the red cars and the binky. It's a lovely picture. At our corner market we have these buggys and a train, old bicycles, and pedal cars. They love the kids.

  • I have your 3000th visitor graphic here. Please let me know if I have made translation errors so I can correct them. Thanks!

  • i love supermarkets! reason being, i love to shop! hehehe... most of the time i'll prance around picking up stuff and shoving them into the cart. my mum will be the one asking me to stop taking things without telling her i'm going to buy it. it's a really magical place if you have a mind which can imagine...

  • Childred possess the ability to dream where ever they are - is that not a wonderful thing?

  • Those two are so adorable!  They look so cute in the little car!

  • No no... I detest supermarkets.  And mass marketing.  Cheap prices that little businesses cannot hope to compete with.  No no.

I love the small shops, the little markets, the smiling friendly people there, the quality things they have for their customers, the little things they give.  The joy.

No no.  No supermarkets for me, thank you.

  • Heheh I've spent so long standing in queues in my supermarket that the only way to preserve my sanity is to daydream!  What gorgeous children

  • When visiting those big stores ~yes many dreams!  I call then "make a wish store"!   @-}-}-

  • They are so cute.......I just love them....
