Dur !
My vegetable garden at this time .
The grouund has been dug . Some leeks and parsley remain . Onions , shallots have been planted , peas have been sawed . A net protect them from blackbirds and turtledoves . This vegetable garden is about 400 square meters large . It is a vegetable garden but it is also a battlefield against the strong soil , the bad weather , the weeds , any birds , bugs and mushrooms . Hard !

Cool! That's pretty big! We just have a little garden. That looks like a lot of work!
very big! lots of work, should keep you fit and well-fed when the time comes to reap your rewards. enjoy!
I have the space to have a garden almost that size... but other things seem to eat my time... perhaps someday I too would be able to have a flourishing garden...
I wish I had a garden to work in.... I cannot wait to see how beautiful it grows

wow! c'est tellement grand! tu as fait de bon progres!
That looks pretty nice already, I think just the fact that you can see dirt and green stuff in that picture enchants me, it's starting to snow pretty hard here as they predicted and I'm still at school for at least 2 more hours with nothing to do and a 45 minute drive home. Oh well, I'm sure I'll be able to see the dirt here soon(hopefully it will be dirt mixed with water, I love mud).
that is a pretty large garden! I can't believe how quickly you got that done--if I had a job like that I would put it off for ages and ages. you're lucky you're not a procrastinator like me! ~
I can't wait to see pictures of everything growing up to the sun. Poor birds, no food? My invaders eat the dog food, or the sunflowers that I plant.
What a beautifull garden you have...I also have a garden..I have an orange and apple tree...I have parsley, cilantro, carots, kale....
have a great time planting and enjoying your garden..

I not fly over the garden, waiting...anxiously...for the buds to emerge.
I hope you win the battle
At least you're prepared for anything!
All the best, Zara.
P.S aren't slugs awful!
...good photo, thanks for sharing your garden with us.

...gardens take effort but the rewards are wonderful. Wishing you the best of luck with your garden and the elements cooperate with you.
Il y a beaucoup de leçons être apprises du fonctionnement de la terre. Beaucoup de repas aussi! Nous avons l'argile rouge. Vous pouvez faire la poterie d'il. Que est-ce qui fait votre sol fort?
There are many lessons to be learned from working the earth. Many meals also! We have red clay. You can make pottery from it. What makes your soil strong?
I wish I had a garden like that. I loved to go around the farmers markets in Boulogne
You must work hard on your garden, it looks so neat, ours isn't as Matt just doesn't have the energy anymore. Mystical2 said you look young, well I think you look about what your age says. It seems as if we all see things differently. Not that you are not pleasant to view ,don't get that idea, just I wouldn't say young. I see you are 10 years younger than myself so must have been 6 when W.W.2 BROKE OUT. wERE YOU VERY DEPRIVED IF YOU WERE LIVING IN fRANCE THEN. i WAS 16 AND JOINED THE w.a.a.f.S WHEN NEARLY 18. wE WERE SHORT OF FOOD BUT NOT STARVING. wHEN mATT CAME BACK FROM eGYPT AFTER THE END OF THE WAR, HE SAID THE fRENCH WERE STARVING AND IF WE DARED LEAVE ANYTHING ON OUR PLATES IT ANNOYED HIM. mY dAD USED TO SAY HE WAS SAND HAPPY BEING IN THE DESERT FOR 4 YEARS AS THAT IS HOW LONG WE WERE APART. wE MARRIED 11 DAYS AFTER HIS RETURN BUT i THINK i HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT THAT. i ALSO WROTE ABOUT THE WAR DAYS OF MINE BUT IT WAS BEFORE YOU BECAME A VISITOR. nOT THAT i SEEM TO HAVE MANY OF THE OLD ONES THESE DAYS. Oh! I am sorry I have left the caps lock on can't rewrite it. Cheers Portia

Michel, il est pas étonnant pourquoi vous êtes fatigués. C'est beaucoup de travail! J'espère que vous avez un grand congélateur pour stocker la moisson à l'intérieur.
Lovely garden, Michel! I will post photos of our garden soon (justmargie is my wife). We have many herbs to cook with: rosemary, basil, sage, fennel, Mexican mint marigold, thyme, parsley, chives, cilantro, oregano and several types of garlic. We have also planted tomatoes, peas, radishes and onions. We tried leeks last year but they didn't work very well. My wife is incharge of the kitchen garden and I flower garden to attract the butterflies, hummingbirds, lizards and other little creatures.
Happy gardening.
I REALLY enjoy seeing pictures of your garden!!
Our biggest problems are ground squirrels and gophers.
I have a veggie garden, too. The best thing in my garden is an artichoke plant!
Huge garden ,Michel.I wish i had that and a little more sunshine for the tomatoes.I miss les 'faives de marais' I adore them.
Bien à toi et bon Paque,
Carlo
It is looking nice Michel! Hard work will be rewarded in time...
Oh Michel, thank you! I love to see tilled earth and neat rows and plots for planting! It makes me feel all is right and as it should be. Maybe this is because I come from the midwest section of the U.S., but it could also be that my family were farmers before me and always had at least a small garden that I enjoyed 'helping' them with as a small girl.
My grandmother (mammaw is what we called her) was a hard working woman. I learned very young to 'hill the potatoes' and how to 'weed' and hoe and many other things. It was hard work, even for a young one, but it always felt good to be tired in that way. I think that is because you could see what you had accomplished and you also knew in a little time, there were many wonderful things coming up and to watch them grow and then bring in the harvest was exciting to me.
I even liked 'breaking' beans... I sat with the women on the front porch many times in the evening after picking the green beans. None of us could keep the pace of my aunt Dody! She could fill her pot of beans much faster than any of the rest of us!
I have been remembering much I see.
I am sorry to write so much. Your garden will be wonderful to see as it grows!
Take rest my friend!
Deb
All the best to you for a successful garden. My father loved to maintain a small garden. Perhaps I should give it a go.
I like the battle metaphor, it makes me imagine that these vegetables really do duke it out to survive.
I read somewhere in a magazine that you can substitute onions when a recipe calls for shallots. But you have planted both? Could you tell me a bit more about shallots? What do they look like?
Answer to shadowraven :
1) When you plant 1 little onion you have in June - July 1 big onion .
2) When you plant 1 shallot you have in june - july a pack of 5 or 6 shallots . There is multiplication. ( like garlic and tulip )
3) The taste of shallot is not the same as onion . You can have famous beefsteak grilled with little bits of shallots ( in french
nglet ou bavette à l ' échalotte ) . Other meal : potatoes with salad oil and vinegar in which you put bits of shallot to eat with pate , ham .etc ....
Good luck with your battles
Though this beautiful garden hardly looks like the dreary battlefields we are used to...
Thank you for stopping by my own site Fauquet and answering my question about shallots! I've always wondered about them!
Still waiting for the salad to emerge.
Eve
I can just imagine the final results.
Is Amiens a suburb?
The fruits of your labor makes the garden a treasure! THe battle should make us appreciate the garden and it's wealth! @-}-}-
WOW!! I only have two square feet of herb garden. I am impressed. How do you find time to tend to a garden that large, and how do you eat all it produces?
.. I love gardening. I can't wait to get out there again this year. It is a lot of work but the rewards are great. I plan on exploring flowers this year. I've only dealt with vegetables so far. It should be fun. Lots of yummy food and hopefully some great "smells" as well!
Best wishes with yours!
When my garden is ready I always feel I have prepared my santuary. The knelling in the dirt and planting is an act of faith in itself. I always plant enough for the bugs, birds, other little animals. I offer some to the weather and I always end up with an abundance to spare and share. Jass
Michel : Your garden looks wonderful. I must admit I needed to use the English translation when I could not understand the last part when you compare your garden to a battleground!!! Very clever. On Tuesday of this week we were hit with another blast of winter and over 10 cm of snow - GRRRRR. Fortunately, Wednesday and Thursday have been mild and there is not much of the white stuff (*&$#@*&) remaining. Wayne is anxious to get outdoors and dig in the garden! Soon, I tell him, soon.
Looks nice!
Husband just tilled a small strip of the garden today so I can plant onions and lettuce. I make my Grandmother a spring salad each year from lettuce, onions and crumbled bacon and hot bacon grease. It's become a tradition. She's 92.
Such a lot of work ahead of you, too.
Heureux Pâques, Michel.
Happy Easter Michel..
Michel! Now its your turn to update! ~
The garden looks beautiful. Id love to grow my own food but I dont have the skill or the patience
My what a popular garden you have grown - thankyou for letting me visit - at the opposite side of the year my tomatoes are withering away without having made any fruit at all - not sure if its from the location under a rust ridden castor oil plant or a horrendously cold summer.....my garden is very limited but I do manage a few herbs...keep up the bon travail 88888888
One day I may have the time for such a garden.....
Not as beautiful as paris, but we are fun on the PC...oui?
