Chers amis , dites moi : " bon courage ! " . Merci .

At the foot of the wall .

At the end of our lawn there are two short but rather tall walls that marck only the corners of the property . They have been collapsing for some years with the help of the Virginian creeper and the ivy . At first I was happy to have those ruins which gave a romantic or antique charm to this wooded part where the pink Hawthorn , the twisted Sophora , an apple tree , a holly and the walnut tree are living . I even wondered with a smile if I was not going to make visit ! ! !

Unfortunatly the ruins are more and more in decay and soon I will have nothing at all any more . So I bought yesterday much mortar . I have to make again the joints and to replace the fallen bricks after cleaning ( old mortar , moss ) .

As you see it is not only to rebuild walls but restore style 1930 historical monuments ! A french proverb says : " It is at the foot of the wall we recognize the mason " . I am not a specialist , at all . I am feeling poor !  Dear friends , tell me " have courage ! " . Thank you.

    Bon travail,Michel.

  • 'bon courage!', michel...  you'll do fine renovating, i'm sure...

and thanks for all the support....  we appreciate it.

  • Much courage Fauquet. I am a great mason and a builder. Here in my 100 year old garden I have ruins of a building that is covered in vines and bordered in English boxwood. I know you can do it.

The proverb is right--a good foundation is a must!  Best wishes with the work. Take the job one brick at a time! You will do fine!

  • Take heart. Think of it as being able to rebuild history. It will be so beautiful when you are all finished. I can see it in my mind.

  • Bon courage, Michel!  Vous pouvez le faire!

  • I agree with Craktpot...take it one brick at a time.  It will be beautiful!!  If you want it to look like that old ruin, it doesn't have to be perfect anyway.

  • Thank you for the Birthday wishes.

  • Sorry I did not get back to you about IMS which is calling men, idle, moaning and a slob.Which if you are starting to rebuild the wall you are not

What has to the ivy and vines , I have vine on my wall which turns orange in the Autumn, if Neil puts the photo of my house on his site soon you will see I live in a house that was built in 1893 .Thanks for your comments

  • bon courage!!!

  • Mystical2 is not fair. That is Diane's garden.

  • what a nice quote! and, have courage! (I would have replied in French, but I'm not that good yet!) ~

  • No I won't !!! ***laughs***

You know yourself that you can make something nice out of it. Not new, not too decayed.

That you will strive to get a nice feel into the wall.

You won't need me to tell you can do it!!!

    Lufya!

  • Ah, un proverbe! Je les sais. Regarde!
    8-)

  • Michel, I hope for you that the weather will be nice, if you are going to reconstruct the walls. The result will be fine, I assure you. Amitié a vous, Bianca

  • You are not alone  all this week [and next ] is to be spent putting winter's damage to rights

  • Don't worry Michel. Do your best..If you are not happy then soon the vines will cover it.

  • Have courage.  I am sure it will turn out to be wonderful.

  • Oh, Dear Friend, by all means have courage. I learned something some time ago,"Success is achieved by those wh try." Keep on trying, Michel. Persavere, hang in there, and all those other encouraging sayings that one hears all the time.

  • Michel,

We all know you will do a wonderful job on the repairs and restorations.  I hope to see photos of the completed work, maybe at the wedding in Canada in December?    I hope you begin to feel well soon also.

    Amitié a vous,

              Deb

    Carlo

  • I wish you well with your duplicate writing and all your visits to everone you wont have much time. Do send a picture when you get it finished. What part of France do you come from, or would you rather not say? Cheers Portia

  • We may be able to tell who the mason is by the base of the wall, but no two people are alike, so your work will never be like that done so long ago.  It will your own.

    ~Peace
