Hier, ma fille Isabelle, celle qui vit en Angleterre, était là avec ses enfants et aussi un petit-fils Simon (23 ans, fils de la duchesse Carole).
Isabelle aime le jardinage et je lui offris de ramasser la récolte d'oignons qui était restée à sécher sur le terrain depuis la veille après-midi. Peut-être que j'ai trop d'imagination, mais en voyant le groupe au travail, j'ai pensé tout à coup à une célèbre peinture française "Les glaneuses" de Millet (1859). Il fut un temps où les peintres aimaient la peinture réaliste des scènes de la vie. Inutile de dire que le spectacle des «glaneurs» dans mon jardin était un enchantement comme un tableau vivant.
En fait, ce n'était pas vraiment un glanage puisque dans le passé (que j’ai encore connu), cela signifiait ramasser ce qui restait sur le sol après la récolte. Je me souviens, lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, j'allais glaner le blé après la moisson, .Ma mère utilisait ce blé pour faire du pain qu'elle cuisait dans le four de la cuisinière.

Yesterday my daughter Isabelle , the one who lives in England,was there with her children andalso a grandson Simon (the23 years old Duchess Carole 's son ).
Isabelle loves gardening so I offered to her to collect the crop of onions that was remained to dry on the ground since the day before . Perhaps I have too much of imagination but at seeing the group at work, all of a sudden I thought ofa famous French painting “ the gleaners “ by Millet( 1859) . It was a time when the painters loved paint realist scenes of life . Useless to say the show of the "gleaners" in my garden was enchanting like a living painting .
In fact it was not really a gleaning since in the past (that I knew) this meant collect of crops left over after harvest. I remember, during the war II, I was going to glean the wheat after the harvest, thatmy mother used to make bread in the oven of the cooker.
Simon carries the crop to the "barn" Good dishes in sight!!

Mais cela m'a incité à en savoir plus sur les oignons. Effet, ils sont utilisés partout et de diverses manières pour la cuisine, sautés ou encore pour faire revenir la viande, ils sont aussi consommés crus en salade ou marinés dans du vinaigre, ou cuits pour les tartes à l’oignon , confits, pizzas ou autres plats comme les omelettes.. J’ai pensé que vous deviez certainement connaître de nombreuses utilisations du célèbre oignon (connu depuis l'Antiquité)
Mon esprit étant connecté sur le thème de l'oignon je me suis souvenu qu'il y a plusieurs années pendant les vacances dans le centre de la France, nous étions à un marché en plein air quand un de nos enfants a été mordu ou piqué au genou par un insecte. Une femme qui vendait des légumes et des fruits à proximité est venue frotter la peau à l'endroit de la morsure avec un oignon fraîchement coupée. La douleur a rapidement été adoucie. Les oignons ont de nombreuses propriétés médicinales intéressantes.

About the crop of onions I got a comment from @dingus6 that was only a link leading to a video with Suzan Christie singing "I love onions "( 1966) here . I had a smile in listening to her and at reading the funny lyrics
But this incited me to know more about those onions .Indeed, they are used everywhere and in various ways for the cuisine , sauteed or for instance to brown the meat. They are also eaten raw in salad or pickled in vinegar, or cooked for onions tarts, confits, pizzas or other dishes such omelettes. I was thinking you know certainly many uses of the famous onion (known since the Antiquity).
My mind being connected on the onion topic I remembered that many years ago during holidays in the centre of France we were at an open air market and one of our children was bitten at the knee by an insect. A woman who sold veggies and fruits nearby came to rub the skin at the place of the biting with a fresh cut onion . The pain was quickly softened. The onions have many interesting medicinal properties .
The onion, I tell you !
