  • Moon light in the snow/ The teeth of the snow.

Clair de lune dans la neige

    Moon light in the snow

    English version below the picture

January has been  hard here especially during those two last weeks . We got a lot of snow. The roads were hazardous and in on the sidewalk along the street and also in our driveway  we had to shovelling  many times, as you know

But this weather sometimes gives us strange impressions . At first  there is the white blanket which always amazes us and covers all of the things . But in the night of January 25 , it was almost full moon and I was at  the windows  to close the shutters . I had a shock . All was lighted . The snow in our front yard, was  yellow and the building around had a special color.

It was like a poem and I thought it was not too bad to see a moon light in a night of full moon over the snowy landscape .  But this was too much poetical . I realized quickly it was the new  lights of the street  that gave this strange effect .
Have we still  the right to dream to a moon light at, midnight in the snow ??

    The teeth of the snow

And when the snow is melting it shows its teeth in a fascinating way. This is beautiful but a bit frightening .Now the snow is gone. At this time the weather  is a roller coaster with quick ups and downs of temperature, as @underused says !

Michel

  • Yes we do. Dream, imagine, create. Midnight in the moonlight/streetlight/neon light. What ever gets our creative juices flowing is fine thought indeed. Thanks you for all your comments and I am glad to see your illumination on Xanga. (pats heart, and points to you)

  • I am always amazed at how light the night can be with a blanket of snow. I get a shock as I walk upstairs when I glance out of the front door. I suppose it will seem especially dark when the snow melts. As beautiful as it can be, I will not miss the snow!

    Verlaine

Magical moment in the middle of the night. That happens once in a while.

  • There are no streetlights here in the woods. The nearest home to ours is one tenth of a mile away and in a hollow, so we do not see the light from their house. When the indoor lights are extinguished, the moonlight reflects off the snow. when the moon is full, it is almost as bright as daylight. The shadows are cast in shades of blue.

  • lucky you to have so much snow! wish we had lots like that! just 2 days of snow....no more. :whocares:too bad not enough to make a snowman near our building. but a teacher did at isla's nursery! :goodjob:i need to post the pic. it'll probably be gone tomorrow when i take her to school. :rolleyes:ok love to u!!!so glad you're back!!! xxx

  • A beautiful sight captured with your camera! It doesn't matter the source - it is still magical!

  • It does look like teeth hanging off the building !  Or large teeth !!! Thanks for stopping  by-I always enjoy your visits

  • When snow first falls, it is truly a beautiful white blanket that covers the earth. How quickly it becomes something less desired! I hate to drive in it, and when it starts to become dirty and slushy..there is no poetry in it at all! LOL! But to see it lit by the light of the full moon, it is indeed very poetic.

  • M., you have a very profound and beautiful way of describing things....you're so.... French. Perhaps the streetlights came on because the moon was just smiling. Je ne sais pas.... I do know that your pics and post are magnifique. (I don't know if I spelled that correctly.)

  • Beautiful and so enchantful-looking.  Looks like a fairy tale until come morning, one has to go out and shovel that beauty.  It, too, is very much winter...not so much snow, but never-ending below freezing cold temps.  So one must dream of the coming of March with sunshine and spring flowers.   .....    Marilyn

  • This is beautiful and looks like a magical, fantasy land. Great shot Michel!!

  • Ty so much for your prayers for TD Michel and they are very much appreciated.

  • it's been cloudy here at night but the snow is so white and bright i leave my blinds open to look out until well into the night -- beautiful. i do hate that orange light, oh for less light pollution

  • Le droit? Oui.

  • Magnificent. :)   ryc: I had to recommend the comment.  You hit the nail on the head. ;)

  • How gorgeous! I like when you show pictures of Amiens. It's so different from my world. Thanks for sharing!

  • What a beautiful picture. Even though it is cold and snow there is still beauty all around us

  • Yes. The night will always be full of magic and mystery.

  • Snow makes everything look quiet and peaceful.

  • No matter how it's lit, it's beautiful!

  • Did I ever tell you about me and Debussy?

  • Oh, how beautiful! It is still snow here, but melting today due to freezing rain we are just having. School is on a two hour delay due to the danger of driving on ice. It is not yet above freezing so we stay indoors and wait.

Your photo is haunting and beautiful....yes, it gives one the image of what poets enjoy....mystical and haunting in the semi-dark. As always, you see the wonder of things, which is why your readers love you so! (especially me!)

Moonlight = moon light in English!

    XXXOOO

  • A pretty picture indeed.

ryc: Shertz is a community outside our city. It was a long drive for daughter to get to work.

50 lbs. of seed, the 2 big feeders and 2 small in the very cold are filled. That amount still last a long time. He buys it at the feed store and it is cheaper in that size.

  • I love the moonlight's reflection on the snow, it's one of the best parts of winter. Thank you for sharing this.
    Donna

  • reminds me of that Cat Stevens song,"Moon Shadow,Moon Shadow."

  • Magic in the moonlight, the surrounding silence adds poetry, romanticism, inner warmth opposed to the outer coolness, have you noticed that it's never really cold when it snows. There's a feeling of safety, as if the snow could protect you from harm. Beautiful picture.

  • One of the things I've liked best about going to the house is the absence of street lighting. Moonlight on snow is shockingly bright without any help from us.
But then, streetlamps on snow is charming in its own way...
    g.

  • MIchel - how does it feel to be touched by the magic of this beauty? tres beau!! It is always amazing how nature itself paints such beautiful scenes...ethereal sights that mortal hands may never be able to re-create...

  • what better time is there to dream of the moon than at midnight in the snow  :heartbeat: ilym :heartbeat:

  • When we had a heavy snow a couple of years ago, I took a bunch of photos at 11:00 at night, because the light was amazing. It wasn't even a full moon. Mostly it was city lights reflected off the clouds and the snow.

  • the magic of the new lights :)
we had some snow today, but it has already melted...very strange weather for us...
    but surprises are often nice
    xo

  • Pretty picture!!    : )

I had to smile though when you said it was yellow when you looked out ... here we always say that if it's "yellow", there must have been a dog out there.   lol        Silly, I know!

  • Ty so very much for your caring comment about TD's health and the view of my walk this morning. I hope your snow has cleared a bit and have a wonderful Tuesday.

  • RYC: Actually, I was thinking of the song " Au claire de la lune,Mon ami Pierrot" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYLTc3tGdzc

  • ''What a good photo of the reflected light of the moon upon the tree. AMEN''

'' Qu'est-ce une bonne photo de la lumière réfléchie de la lune sur l'arbre. AMEN''

  • Yes, of course we can dream in the moonlight. I hear that dreams never die, just the dreamer. May God bless you with a wonderful week.

  • Snow always seems to make all light reflect with magic and mystery. It is such a beautiful world God has given us. Each day I thank God for all the blessings he gives us. Love to all of you and your beautiful world Nancy

  • How lovely.  I remember moonlight on freshly fallen snow...like diamonds.

While I enjoy pictures and your appreciation of the beauty and poetry, I no longer have any desire to see or feel snow.

I'm quite content with the sunshine of FL.  It gets hot and muggy in the summer but hot and muggy is a lot easier to drive in than ice.  We left the snow after a horrific blizzard(called the white hurricane) hit Cleveland in 1977.  We vowed that when we retired , we would move to an area of no snow.

Do be careful in shoveling that snow!  The snow should leave a lot of moisture which will help with those spring plantings.

  • This thing submitted before I was finished!  I was going to say that it is because of the melting snow from the Sierra Nevada Mt. range in CA that is responsible for the glory and wonder of the Giant Sequoias.  It's the amount of water from the melted snow.

Also, of course I leave with a mini!

  • sooooo beautiful!!!

  • Last Friday night we had a huge snowstorm here I was in work at the time , it was hard to get home but one of my friends had a 4x4 car so she was able to bring me home. The strangest thing is the colour of the sky at the time as like you said it was very bright with the reflection from the snow. Hopefully now the weather is getting slightly better and spring is not too far away

  • Where I live, there is not much "light pollution" and one can see very well when the moon is full just by that light. When there is snow, too, it is so beautiful, as in your picture.

  • yes, the teeth, tres beau too. It's like icicles? It's great to have snow, everything is beautified...

  • The teeth are certainly something different. Did you have a steady wind and a rapid freeze?

  • Those icy "teeth" are beautiful!
    g.

  • Oh my goodness looks cold

  • Hi, Michel

I lived in snow country for 10 years---it had its beauty for sure. First snow was always the best--everything looked so pure and beautiful.

The teeth---interesting how ice forms sometimes.

Loved your photos and thoughts on this experience.

    blessings,

    frank

  • I love ice sicles.

  • Our weather is so up and down here too. So thankful we got good rains. We were so dry.

  • Our weather is much the same....cold then warm...a bit of snow.    At my age, I'd rather not have the snow to try to control or walk on, but we really need more moisture.   Got about 2/3 of an inch of rain last night.   Need MUCH more.

  • They've always reminded me of long eyelashes. Beautiful.

  • "shows its teeth" Excellent image.

  • Beautiful vista of moonlit front yard and the snow. Many poems are born on a moonlit night when the snow falls.
    love the second picture.
    Be safe.

  • Beautiful picture of the melting snow and ice Michel!

  • Thank you for the birthday wishes and the beautiful mini! I love the last photo - it captures the "biting" wind and cold!

  • "Teeth of snow"--what a descriptive phrase! I will never look at icicles the same way from now on.

  • Fascinating! I've seen lots of icicles but don't recall any 'curved' ones. Did you put these up on flickr?

  • We are having the ups and downs, too! Yesterday it was so warm the mailperson was wearing shorts - but this morning I woke to snow on the ground! And more high winds with bitter cold! BRRR! Hope you stay snug and warm, and don't walk under any icicles!

  • indeed the ice does look like the teeth of something? maybe the snow monster ate yourshed

  • answer to n_e_i_l  above : yes when the snow started to melt a strong wind and frost at night gave this show.

  • Love the teeth of snow!

Yes, Florida is a nice place to be. Sometimes it gets cold there but it doesn't stay cold long. I think Miami and south would be a good place to winter over, but.......we're not old and rich yet.

  • Every season has it's own beauty and you have captured some. Our weather has been wonky too. 60's F. one day and snow and 19F this morning. :sunny:

  • As you might imagine, snow is not seen around here much but we do have ice rain.  Layers and layers covering bare limbs of trees.  When you see them they look like amber crystal.  It is unique to say the least.  It happens when we have below freezing temperatures and a misting rain.  I think it lovely.  Sorry can't send you pictures.  The only ice we have had was while Dad was in the hospital.  But winter isn't over yet.  One year we set a record high for February and then two weeks later a record cold.  You just never know.  I have seen snow as late as March. I love the way the ice off the roof blew until it made it look like they were bent.  Good pictures by the way.

  • I don' know if the snow was ungry and wanted some food, or was just laughing at us.... Or perhaps she was upset by our behaviour. Who knows? Now she is gone, for now.

    amitie,

    Carlo.

  • Oh my, what great teeth you have!  Beautiful shot ~

  • The photo of the teeth of the snow is amazing and looks like a snow monster crawling across the roof and hanging over the edge.
    Great shot Michel.

  • Those are awesome photos of snow scenes. I still have photos of the undue amount of snow we got here in north TX several years ago. The weight caused collapse of carports at my apt. complex. A neighbor warned us that they were collapsing. Right after we moved our cars from our section, it collapsed. Some of apt. roofs were damaged and eaves came down. This year, the only snow we got was Christmas day, so we could say we had a "white Christmas", but it melted the day after except for a few very shady areas. The caption on this post reminded me of the lovely song we learned in  2nd year high school French class, "Au Clair de Lune". Occasionally, a theme I have used in a program for entertaining at retirement or assisted living communities involves songs from different countries, mostly European. I would sing "Au Clair de Lune" in French, but the English translation was spoken. Also, love Debussy's "Clair de Lune". Again, want to thank you for comments on my site and also for checking on mommachatter. I'm hoping to do more "Proverb" posts, but the days are flying by and I don't get to it.  ~~Bénédictions et Cheers

  • Hi Michel!  Good to see you!  I like your pictures!  Riding_Hood

  • Ty so very much Michel for your comments on my post about the spot I like to sit and veg.

  • The cold of winter sure leaves some stunning pictures behind! The icicles in particular look awesome!!
