Indian summer/ a joyous familial week end.
L’ été indien?
Indian summer?
English version below the picturesL’ été indien ?
Indian summer? I believe it has gone away. This period of good weather that we named in my area , Michaelmas's summer is ended for us. Now we have a very changing weather. This morning it was raining cats and dogs and this afternoon is sunny. Some regions in France or in Spain have just been flooded The early morning and at night it is cold and also into the houses .Many people are sick.
This is a transitory time where we may feel not quite well, like morose, a bit sad. We focus on the sad news around us and in the country ( and there are many ) . Into the house in the late evening we dream of fire place with a good fire and beautiful flames as on the picture above . We are waiting the chimney cleaning to start . The wood already is stacked.. We have to keep a bit of patience, serenity and always high spirit.
Besides we will be about 15 at home with some children and grand children who have announced their visit next week-end . The house will become enchanted, the fireplace will be lighted and perhaps the beautiful colors of the autumn leaves will be there.________________

Un joyeux week-end familial
a joyous familial week -end
(English version below the pictures )
Isabelle from England on the left and her sister Veronique holding the twins ( it was their first going out since their birth on August 24, 46 days ago.)Part view of the gathering for the drink before meal.
Behind, my youngest son Jean-Baptiste with Manon and Antoine
At the first row, on the couch : Melody his wife and the twins: Raphaël on the left and Yris on the rightAs I had announced above in the first part of this entry, this last week end was joyous . Two of our daughters , Isabelle who lives in England and her sister Véronique wanted to come for a get together at our home.. One of their brother Jean-Baptiste joined them with his wife, Melody, and his four children. This gathering was quite spontaneous and only half of the children were there this time . However we were "only" 15 people .
The first part of this post was a bit morose but this reunion warmed our heart. Nothing better than the expression of love and brotherhood lighted and perhaps the beautiful colors of the autumn leaves will be there.

Our Indian Summer has also ended....The temps have gone down....84* yesterday....And today will get to a high of...60* And night temps will be in the 30's now for the most part, but for this weekend, they are supposed to be in the 20's....BRRR!! We've gone from summer to winter, and will be missing fall this year.....
Looking at the fire place, I think of winter being there.
How wonderful that your home will be filled with the joy and laughter of grandchildren, and the company of adult children. You are indeed blessed Michel. It will be a magical week end.
Yes this time of year is depressing but if we look we can find joy and beauty where ever we look. Fall is a wodnerful time of year with the colors of the season.
Life is good and it is a good day to be alive.
TY so very much for your lovely comments on my post with the photo of my pond.
Today is beautiful, but chilly; it is taking the sun a lot longer to warm things up! I am glad that your home will have the happy glow of family to chase the chill from your hearts soon!

If we are able to buy the house we want in Tampa, we'll have a fireplace. I love sitting by a fire! It is very soothing and peaceful.
Here in Texas, the weather is cool enough that some nights I need a blanket and not just a sheet. We had 24 hours of rain last weekend. I enjoyed it.
I'm sure you'll enjoy the weekend with the grandchildren. I will be in Arkansas with my son and my stepmother.
I am afraid that I am not past the indian summer stage. Here the weather is still too hot, kids are grumpy, and momma is out of sorts. I look forward to when it cools down enough to havena hot cuppa in the eavenings and snuggle aroundw the kids with a good book or movie night.
Your upcoming weekend sounds like a good weekend. I am glad for you that you have been blessed with such a loving family.
Janine looks both lovely and content sitting by the fire, enjoy the weekend with your family :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat: ilym
I would love to share such enchantment with your family.
It has rained most of the evening here - the dog does not want to go outside! I can't blame him as I don't want to go out either!
I love the picture of Janine sitting and reading by your fireplace. It is beautiful weather here in the midwest.. Simply beautiful. So grateful for cooler weather now and the changing colors of the leaves. We always have a lengthy spring and a lengthy fall here.
Gathering of your family is oh, so special. Enjoy it !

You posting are wonderful and informative.

I love the fact that you can get cozy by the fireplace...we have had LOTS of rain but it appears to be abating. We are down to a quick lawn mowing once every two weeks and that will stop soon. I am going to hire someone professional to mow and weed eat the back yard. Too bad I never had a garden there! One of the rescue dogs has been digging many holes in the yard. :nono: I think she needs to find a new home before we move.
RYC: the sixth picture is of the seed pods of the white flowers of the Sweet Autumn Clematis that I posted a couple of weeks ago. I think they are as neat as the flowers, in a different way.
I think we are having a quick Fall this year; all the leaves from that tree are down already, and snow is predicted for northern portions of my state ( but thankfully not here!).
It's always so much fun when the grandchildren come ~
Answer to greatredwoman above : The chimney has been cleaned today and the fireplace will be lighted tomorrow .
The bittersweet change of the seasons, especially autumn to winter, does make one reflect for a moment on what is lost. But quickly we look ahead to the happy days of family gatherings and holidays ahead.
I was interested in your use of the term, "raining cats & dogs". Is that phrase used in French as well?
the weather is changing here also this morning we had fog over the lake and now at nine am it is only in the sixties the cool weather is good for fall clean up all the trees are losing their leaves and the neighborhood is decorating for halloween(all hallows eve) . we have a street party on main street and no trick or treating the police patrol the neighborhoods looking for trouble makers. halloween used to be a time when the children dressed up in costumes and went door to door getting candy then someone decided it was "trick" not treat and started vandalizing and putting nails in the sand in the playgorunds and needles in the candle etc and that escalated to gang fighting so now there is a street party and a curfew.
Great picture of Janie, so peaceful looking. No fireplace here. Our Indian Summer for us it seems, our air conditioning is back on.
We're in franche-comte and only just managed to hold on until October before lighting the wood stove. Now, it's always prepared for the cold spells, which are becoming continuous.
It was really nice here today, not sure of the temps but think in the low 60's. Tomorrow and Sunday we might not even hit 50 degrees so our weather's changing too. I'm not ready for the cold weather! lol
Have a nice time with all of your family there [I know you will!] Wish I could be there, I know it'd be so much fun. : )
My love to you and Janine,
Debi
P.S. I'm thinking about starting to blog at Xanga again. I haven't yet but when I get some time, I think I'm going too. : )
our indian summer here in beijing is finally letting up. it's about 73 F which is like 23 C i believe. not sure if france follows C or F. lovely fireplace pic of janine. so peaceful. it's nice that you get your family get-together next weekend.:goodjob: isla had a fever:whocares: last night because of the changing weather lately. so we've just been home all day.i asked william to get some cold/cough meds in america for isla. he's enjoying the states sooo much. we wish we could live there....but because of my medical necessities, it's easier in the UK. i've been busy cleaning. she has been refusing to nap since yesterday so i made her have quiet time in the bedroom now. she's playing with her dolls while i finish cleaning and check my email. hehe
Such a beautiful picture of Janine...so content.
No matter what the weather , when we are near the ones we love, we have "sunshine" and warmth in our souls.
One of the reasons that we moved to FL is that the Great Lakes Area(Cleveland is located at the southern shore of Lake Erie) has several months lacking in sunshine. It is the sunshine and not the warmth that I enjoy about living here.
It still is warm here and probably won't start to cool until mid-October. It's already cool up north but we are planning to go to IN to see family members. I wish that they could move down here but they are too tied up with jobs, school, etc. I am looking forward to the cooler weather.
The stacked fire wood looks very comforting, Michel! As does Janine reading her book.
Lovely to drop in to see how you are!
We've been lucky - the weather here is beautiful. The days are mostly warm (or at least warm enough). But the leaves are changing and I'll admit I'm looking forward to cold weather. It's so delightful to walk when the air is brisk.

Michel,

I hope your visit with your family is enjoyable. We are very chilly here now, too, with a frost warning for tonight. Seems too early this year.
A lot of people around from all over the world, but i didn't see any Indians with a bag full of sunshine.
.
In italy they call it the Saint Martin summer: Saint Martin gave half of his mantle to a beggar in a very cold weather day, and the weather became warm. That happening took place, hear, hear .....in Amiens.
The day of Saint Martin is celebrated the 11th of November.
Fir place has a good karma and all the family around it, is a special great moment to cherish.

Bonjour Michel
Stephanie
:sunny:
You have a beautiful wife and are very blessed with a wonderful family. I hope you all get better. I had to turn the heat on yesterday, which usually I don't until November, but it was very cold yesterday (as you will see pictures of me when I put the post up. we support the brain injury alliance by walking). RYC: I'm excited for any new idea that uses synergy and is safe. I like Nuclear for the 0 emmisons, but I still think God is telling us to back off that and just keep what plants we have. Besides, uranium is a finate source and won't take long to run through with the current plants. We have to find other ways. As for me; I've been depressed because of the amount of pain I'm in. This year is worse than last year and the cold weather isn't helping. The muscles don't like it, then contract into spasm and won't let loose. I feel like I walk like a zombie. But, I realized that you have to lean on people sometimes to get through the bad times and they reminded me to keep doing research into the green, sustainable alternatives. It keeps my mind busy and I'm still writing politicans to start vertical farms and promote homegrown jobs with synergic ways. My lawyer got me enough money to sustain me for 6 months of bills, so I can now quit my job and I'm going back to college for the 4th time. The other jobs I went to school for are obsoleted, or I can't do nursing and I'm officially disabled now. The pain doctor has to ablate the nerves on the left side of the neck again (not looking forward to that because when you sizzle a nerve, it hurts really bad for about 4 days afterward and the pain is worse, then it goes numb) but I can't survive with the muscles staying tight and causing headaches. (The bones in my neck don't have any cartlidge on the facet joints and they are rubbing bone on bone and grating on the nerves) The muscles aren't getting enough oxygen and blood, so they are starting to atrophy a little bit. I hired a guy to come to my house and he spent 2 1/2 hours releasing myofacial points and didn't even get them all. There is a lot more scar tissue than we thought from the car wreck. I felt like I was getting beat up! It did help, but this morning the muscles are back to being tight. I'm going to have to talk to Dr. S. and tell him I think we need to move to botox now. =( So how I'm handling all this is research. I'm still working on my first book to finish the formatting, but need to come up with the money to publish now and I think I will start to work on a second book on poverty here in Iowa, US. Since most of my classes are already taken, I will have a light load in college this time, but I have to find out if my disabilites will affect the job or not before I commit to this program. Keeping my mind busy and going to brain injury support groups. I didn't realize how much of a hermit I was and how bad I was affected till now.
We have changing seasons also. Our summer was too hot though and I was always seeking refuge from the heat. Our Autumn is producing the beautifully colored leaves and temperatures have just begun to be cooler. I can breath again and play outside.
I will post a couple of recipes on my site for you. You may be able to buy these at your store instead of making them so I will tell you here. Elderberry syrup is good to ward off the H1N1 flu. It is an immune system booster so take one tablespoon everyday until end of Spring.
The hawthorn leaf, flower and berry is good for lifting your spirit. It is good for the heart in all ways. Good for the blood pressure also. Hawthorn berry conserve for your toast, muffins or scones and some dried hawthorn berry added to your tea.
If you have congestion in your bronchial region, ginger tea with honey. I'll post recipes.
Be well Michel and Janine and stay warm and dry! The fire looks delightful. All your hard work in cutting the wood is paying off. More fruits of your labor. God is good.
I'm trying to hang on to Indian Summer. Denial? Maybe, but in my world all's good until the snow flies
Michel, I just read one of your comments on my site about when you used to get your milk from the cow. I remember that post you did about what was all involved with that! Wow. We have a dairy farm nearby and I used to get our milk there. I have to be there at 10:00 in the morning so I can't do it anymore. I'm working from 6:30 to 5:30. When I go part time I will start to do that again. He always added more cream because I made butter.
Here in the tropics, it's summer all year round! We are however, having our annual haze.
Answer to judyrutrider above : It was raining cats and dogs is typically English expression ( or British ) . In French it is said "il pleut à seaux " = it is raining like if we poured the water with buckets
We are leaving this week to go to IN..It is very cool up there now and Val has had the heat on. We are still using our AC.
As for the pets...Puff will be staying down the street at a friend's home. Originally, she was going to stop by , take Puff for the walk and feed her while she took care of the cat's needs. Then she called and wondered if it would be ok for Puff just to stay there. Actually, that relieves my anxiety...I was worried about her being alone too long...Also worried about the cats since they are so spoiled and want to be with us ... but cats do like to stay in their own environment. I think the sitter and her mom wanted to have Puff with them.
She's a really popular little dog with our neighbors and some have threatened(jokingly ) to steal her. She has a loveable disposition and is well behaved...but spoiled. She likes people and likes attention.
I don't like to travel that much anymore...Like the cats, I like my own environment and I will MISS the pets!!!!
Love, I may write a blog before I leave.
ryc: The bird is a homing pigeon Michel. Or you would probably know it as a homing pigeons. We just call them pigeons.
I hope you now have the lovely autumn weather we have here at the moment. You are right the last few weeks have been miserable with rain and wind but the last few days have been glorious , which does lift the spirits
What a good family weekend. Spontaneous is always best. I think we all tend to hudle down and get our books and winter projects together this time of year.
Thanks for inviting us into your home and introducing us to some of your family. You all seem very warm, friendly and inviting....despite the weather.
I would love to start a fire, but that's a ways off here in the sunshine state.
What a wonderful weekend!! Children, and Grandchildren to help make your weekend a happy one....Beautiful family you have there!! :sunny:
ryc: I am fine. My family just came back from a week at the beach. We came home to find the weather had changed and we needed the heater on. I have a little of the morose attitude today also! Maybe it is season related after all, and the ending of a vacation too. Thank you for your note. The family shots are beautiful. Keep well. :heartbeat:
You have a beautiful family, my friend. So glad you had such a lovely week end!
Your family is beautiful. They look comfortable with each other.
You are blessed Michel. We have different seasons as well. Hoping you are safe. Beautiful family!! God bless. Riding hood. Kathy
nothing better than family get-togethers ~
"Only" 15 people? You are indeed rich in family, Michel. Everyone looks magnificent, especially the new babies! Best wishes to all!
The twins are really growing ! It was cool here yesterday--but warm today !-Enjoy your evenings by the fire .
Looks heartwarming indeed. You folks truly are fortunate.
Dear Michel,
I love the picture of Janine sitting by the fireplace. It is beautiful and I would enlarge and have it framed.
The rainy and cloudy weather in the western world always brings some sadness and depression. That's why the sunshine helps such a lot. Whenever I used to read about that in my books or magazines at home I used to wonder why people would get sad with rainy and cloudy weather. In India, it was always so blazingly warm and sunny and we used to long for cloudy days. But now I understand.
The impromptu family get together is such a blessing Michel. I hope you will celebrate these family parties for many many years to come.
Love,
Zakiah.
Sounds like you will be having a good time with family soon!
Wonderful! Anytime family gathers is magical! The two Aunts got to meet the new family members and visit at "home"!
What a great group (of "only" 15!). How nice to have such visitors, and I am sure they enjoyed the homecoming! The twins looked so adorable, all bundled up. They will be toddling all over the place before you know it!
Beautiful babies! RYC: Thank you for the mini and the support. =)
Farmers Market: I'm assuming the wine cork... wonderful invention! Loved it and it's really keeping the wine fresh too! Very easy to pull out. Father and Son makes these in their spare time and sells them at farmers markets. This is the first time I've been able to go to ours since I usually work Thursdays and had this one off.
What wonderful pictures of the family sharing of being together. We too have Indian summer but can't enjoy it as we have unhealthy smokey air daily to the point one can't be outside for more than 1 hour before eyes burn and throat becomes irritated. The big Wenatchee Fire Complex closes to where I live won't be contained until December 1. Of course that means not until the snow starts falling. So some yardwork may have to wait until spring.
So will while away my time in the house doing 'this and that'. Always some project that needs my attention. There is always genealogy to work on.
You and Janine enjoy what is left of fall and hope you have some sunny days soon, tho they may be cold...................love Marilyn
Nothing better than a family reunion to warm up the hearts. No really need for a fire place, but it helps create the ambiance.
The twins are growing up quick,if you compare the pic from your previous entry.

It seems there is a good reason for having children when young. At my age and physical condition I couldn't even lift a child in a carrier.
Such a happy family.
ryc: Michel I gave you the wrong name on the pigeons. These are the 'wild' ones, no homing pigeons around here. lol
I thoroughly enjoyed this post. :sunny:
We are so blessed to have beautiful family full of love. It is the warmth greater than a cosy fireplace. Love to all
Nancy
It must have been a heart warming weekend for you and your family. The twins are adorable and I'm glad to hear they are doing well. The fire looks so cozy and warm. I do hope that you keep well.
We are having some cold damp weather here today. Fall is in the air.
RYC: Glad that your and Janine got to Venice last year. I thought it was a wonderful city to visit. My sister and I had a beautiful tour of Italy.
What a beautiful fmaily Michel and they warm the world around you. So wonderful when the house is filled with our children and theier children.
You have a beautiful family.
Ty so very much for your prayers and warm wishes form my son and my trip out of town to see him.
RYC - My Mother is sitting on the end, in the front row, far right.
You painted a lovely picture with your words. A warm fire is a blessing when it's cold. Blessings to you and your lovely family. May God help us all through the winter!
RYC/ Thanks for watching the video. They are actually pictures , poor quality pictures too, and I put them together to try to tell the story of the pigeon. He/she is gone now back to the sky where it belongs.
I've added some Vivaldi violin (spring I think, but it all I could get).

Your family is beautiful Mornin Glorie...these pictures warm my heart without the help of the firepace :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat: It is a major ordeal to take just one baby out, it is quite the accomplishment to get two babies ready  it's a good thing that Isabelle and Veronique came to help :goodjob: ilym :sunny:
two of them! you are lucky!
love the photo of your wife by the fire
TY for your comments on my spider web post Michel, and Ty for reminding me I had not done an update in my son.
we've had lots of rain here this week too!
but soon your house will be warm and so cozy with all the family gathered in.. enJOY!!
I am envious of the gatherings your family so often has. Everyone looks as if they are enjoying themselves. But it looks as though the twins slept through it all!
Autumn also makes me melancholy. I can see why the fireplace and cozy room lifts your spirits, though. Your wife is making perfect use of it, though. What a great place it must be to read.
You are indeed blessed! How wonderful to have a happy family.
love the grandbaby photos. you are blessed with such a beautiful family. :sunny:
Oh, Michel, I am so glad I saved the posts (subscriptions) in my emails. I just read this one and wanted to cry. You have such a beautiful family and you and Janine are so deserving. The picture of Janine at the fireplace could be a painting! The twins are adorable. It is wonderful to see your huge family!! I just wish I lived nearby so I could visit!!! As you know, I no longer have a family and the loss is even felt more this time of the year. I always loved autumn.
I hope all is well with you, Janine and your big family!!
Love
Bev
