  • Manon ' s birthday time

Le temps de l’ anniversaire de Manon .

    Manon ‘ s birthday time .

English version below the pictures .

    Clockworks .  Rouages   Photo M. fauquet August 7, 2007

Sometimes , we would want to say like the poet Lamartine in his famous poem ,  the Lake " O time, suspend your flight! and you, fortunate hours, stay your journey! “ .
But , we know it , time doesn’ t stop and flies towards the infinite . This is what I thought in checking the mechanism of our about 150 year old grandfather clock .
The imperturbable clockworks are running without stop  in only one sense  . They give a  rhythm to time . This is really impressing .

Fortunatly some  happy moments seem to stop the time . It was the case on the last 21th of July when we celebrated Manon ‘ s birthday .
She is the daughter of  Jean – Baptiste and Marina and has just turned 7 . She is very caring and loving .
Her brother Antoine ( 5 ) pretended it was his birthday too . The sun was there and we tasted the happiness of  a warm and comforting familial gathering .

It was simple but is not the main of life  there ?

  • Beautiful, beautiful family!    Makes me smile.

  • You have a beutiful family! Glad you got to enjoy the day.

    Be safe. Ang

  • Michel, tu as vraiment une belle famille.

  • It is so wonderful to celebrate with family, there's is nothing so important.

Best wishes to Manon and may many, many more wonderful birthdays follow this one.

  • What a beautiful family. Happy Birthday Manon!

  • Birthday posts are my favourites. It looks like everyone enjoyed the celebration.

  • I hear a touch of sadness in your words.  I hope that all is going well?  Please know my prayers are with Marina and the family.  It is good to take time out of this busy world and enjoy the simple things.  The celebrations that remind us of good times and great family events are well worth enjoying with friends and family.  It is good for you all to be together.  We have talked before about how it is the simple things in life that makes one rich in this world.  How many people forget that?  Michel, you take the time to enjoy the simple things.  I think you are a very rich man!  Sent with love and friendship. - Rachel

  • Lovely family!  You said it well, it truly is the simple things.

  • Happy birthday, Manon! You must be proud to be a grandfather to such lovely kids!

  • Happy birthday to Manon! What a pretty girl she is becoming! I love her cake.

    How is Marina's health now?

  • Oui...."Time suspend your flight!"  A happy birthday to Manon.  And...the rest of the family is beautiful...All of you!!!

"O temps suspends ton vol et vous heures propices suspendez votre cours..."

Marina looks healthy and happy.  I pray that all is well with her.

    Love,

    votre amie,

    Francoise.

  • How lovely to see a photo of Marina looking so well. I hope and pray the treatment has been successful. My youngest GS becomes a teenager later this month, I can hardly believe that Michael is growing up so quickly. A very happy belated birthday to Manon. Enjoy your grandchildren as they too will grow up too quickly ! BTW my Tuesdays are special again as it's your blogging day   Marie

  • The birthdays of Grands are always fun to celebrate...however, each year they grow older, so do I...and I sometimes wish I could just stop that old clock and time would stand still in this very special moment.

  • Your family is filled with beautiful people. Yea, for vacation for me. Judi

  • What a beautiful family! May the Lord's hand be on little Manon all her life, and may she grow to love Jesus with all her heart.

  • Love the beautiful pictures of all of you!!!  Thanks so much for sharing them! I have missed you, Michel!!

Hope you & your family are all doing well! (((HUGS)))

  • Hi Michel!  Thanks so much for your comment!   Great to hear from you again!  I just sent you an email!  I hope you receive it soon!!  Love to you & yours!!

  • Its a lovely happy birthday photos you show us. I hope that Manon enjoyed her speical day. Antoine looks very much like his Dad. I love the decoration on the birthday cake too.

It was a good victory for Hamilton but there is alot of disagreement with his team. I think Alonso has not been prepared to have such a good driver on his team

  • Happy birthday Manon.

  • Soon I will be doing what you do, writing in my native language, english and then reposting en francais. It will be rusty and my grammar will be horrible at first, mais it will get better as I do it more.

You are my inspiration. Thank you.

  • Such a beautiful family, Michel----both the young and the old.  Isn't it wonderful to be able to share our grandchildrens' special days with them?  A belated happy birthday, Manon!!

Antoine has a certain twinkle in his eye.  He looks like he could be what we here in America would call an "imp".  A little practical joker perhaps?  He reminds me of one of our grands, Silas, when he was young.  Silas is now 18, and has a great personality.  Gets along with everyone.

Marina looks very good.  Hope she is doing well.  Think of her often, and she is still in my prayers.

  • joyeux anniversaire a manon! i love her beautiful red hair! i always wanted red hair. 2 beautiful pictures of the family!!! i hope she had a fabulous day filled with love and happiness!!! very cute that antoine pretended it was his birthday too! angela

  • Thank you for sharing this special even for the family and Manon's 7th Birthday.
Oh yes, time does go so quickly. It is frightening is goes so fast!

Marina looks well. I hope she is doing well and recovering.

happy day and good health to all of you.
    Love, Rosemary

  • The birthday girl looks happy - she should keep both photos together, as a lovely rememberance of the day.  Marina looks well; I hope she is feeling well, too.

Oh, those little brothers can be such scamps!  My brother is 3 years younger than I, and what a pest he made of himself (and still does, every chance he gets!).

  • I love the photos. Beautiful people.

  • Famille est la plus importante chose.
    C'est chaud la, mon amie?

  • Happy, Happy Birthday Manon!

Simple family gatherings - although simple can be the most memorable!  Time may not stop but Lamartine's poem reminds us to love those around us in the time we are in because the passing of time does continue on by us if we are not careful.

"Let us love!  Let us love in this fugitive hour!"

Le Lac is a wonderful poem written by a man who definitely knew about time slipping by him (his love was dying) and it does make you think about how time has a way of slipping by us if we let it!  With your pictures above - you have captured time if only for a moment - that will be recorded and remembered in your simple family gathering even as time goes on!  :O)

Marina looks absolutely radiant in that picture...it looks as if she is doing quite well.  I think we all continue to think of her and how she is doing.  :O)  Please let her know we wish her well!

It is rather late for me - I am burning the midnight oil tonight.  My love to you all!

    xoxo Cat

  • Oh and one more thing...

I love the picture of the inside of your clock and how you put it together with Le Lac and Manon's birthday celebration.  What made you think about taking the picture of the clock workings within and/or Le Lac poem?

Michel...you make us all think about things and look at things from such an interesting perspective and also in a way never before!  What a wonderful teacher you are!

    xoxo Cat

  • I really love the family portrait with you, your wife and your grand children! Very lovely!

I just noticed the little bunny on the cake! All the decorations behind, the cake, and Manon's dress, and the love within your

family makes the photograph detailed and very beautiful.

  • Happy birthday Manon.

Thge pictures has trapped them and you in a moment of time, but the time does not stop and keeps going, sometimes faster and sometimes slow, to stop it you can take pics or write stories where the time doesn't have time.

MArion looks great and Marina too.

Thanks for sharing such a peacefull moment of your life, it makes me happy to see that happines and peace still exist.

    Bien à toi

    Carlo

  • The clock looks like a spider web, very old and it still does his work?

Ryc: I love the songs of Trenet. Thank you for sending me this , I didn't know it.

    Amitié

    Simon

  • I like the clock a lot, it is like a spider web, all the little wheels working to tell us the time.

Ryc: Thanks for the text of Trenet's song. I love Trenet's songs but I didn't know this one.

Happy birthday to Manon, a good day to stop the clock for a moment and take a pic. The picture is blurry, you say, like your hands were trambling with emotion.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Manon!  Quels beaux cheveux elle a!

  • I think Manon is patiently waiting to sample that cake. Her face is angelic, as she awaits the joy of eating that delicious treat. I hope she enjoyed her birthday-seven already, they grow up so fast.

Those are beautiful pictures of all of you. It is easy to see that you have a very loving family. I agree that it is important to spend the happy times together. It helps us to reflect on the really important things.

    Love

    Edie Rose

  • Beautifully written sentiments at the bottom.  Happy Birthday to Manon and may time allow her many more.

I hope all is well with family and special thoughts for Marina.

    Regards,

  • Cher Monsieur Fauquet

  • So true - time seems to stand still when we are with family and/or good friends.  Such sweet children!  Such a fun day!!!  Praying that Marina is doing as well as she looks and that the trend will continue.  Hugs and smiles...........

Yes, such simple family events make our best memories.  Manon is a very sweet looking girl.  Marina looks well.  How is her health?  I continue to pray for her.

This Friday (August 10) will be my mother's 102nd birthday.  It is also my sister's 77th birthday.  If my father were still living it would also be his 100th birday.  Unfortunately circumstances have prevented me from being in California to celebrate the special day.

  • Oh Michel, I love that last photo, it's wonderful.

I hope Manon enjoyed her birthday.

  • Michel,

How blessed you are to have such a lovely family!  Happy Birthday, little Manon! She is precious!  (so is Antoine - beautiful kids!!)

    Love, Aimee

  • So glad it is almost vacation time. Judi

  • Clearly a very special day <3

Michel, I'm tagging you for the garden meme that I had been tagged for a few weeks ago.  Please stop by the blogspot website of mine to read the directions.  Thank you.

    Your grandchildren are adorable!

  • Bonjour, Dear Michel (sorry I don't know very many french words)

Marina looks very well!  I am so happy...what?  no french tart for the table?  I see cake, but I know how you love your tarts.... Manon is so kind to pretend it is Antoine's birthday, too.

You look content on this lovely sunny day with the grandchildren, wish my grandpa-pa were still around...

Miss you, love you, too!  Lowie

  • Glad you liked the pictures of the dalhlias. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Judi

  • Thank you for stopping by and for your kind words!  Hope you & your family have a great weekend! Love to all of you!

P.S.  Beautiful music you have playing in here!!!

  • Yes, you've found the meaning of life there with your family. It's such an honor to have this peek through the window of your life in France. For many of us, we'll never experience the kind of life you have there. It is nice to see.

The little ones are beautiful, and I especially love Manon's hair.

  • Oh, Michel, what a wonderful family. Yes, I can tell by Manon's picture that she is a very loving and sensitive girl. Also that is a lovely picture of Janine. I am wondering why she does not look too different from the picture you posted of Janine when you were first married! I like this picture of you as well. It looks as tho you are adjusting your glasses for the picture. Too late!!!!

  • simply beautiful. You have such a way with showing me how important the small things in life are. You have a beautiful family . I love to hear abou you all.

  • Happy Birthday to your lovely grandaughter Michel!...what a beautiful family

I read your last few posts....and I did not know about Janine's father....I am very sorry for her( and your) loss.

God bless you both......(((((HUGS)))))...and yes...time marches on!

  • Thanks for your comment and for the info about the 'Les roses blanches'. I didn't know this song, but I recognize the story, except that the castle walls were closed for 'le petit gamin' and there were no white roses either. Actually I use the white roses as a metaphor for pain

    Biens à toi

    Carlo

  • J'et adore!

I always love the little grin you have and your family is wholesome and beautiful. What a wonderful life you have!

  • no michel, our baby boy was born on june 1st. no adoption for us!

  • Oh!  What a beautiful family you have.  Antoine bears resemblance to you, Michel, I think.  How proud they must make you feel.  Just beautiful....

    GraceAnn

  • I got a web cam for my birthday, a poetry book that I love, got taken out to dinner twice, a video camera. I am going to a international seafood restrauant tonight. Lots of fun, Judi

  • Happy belated birthday to Manon! I love the photos. Seeing your family alway puts a smile on my face.

  • A  happy birthday to a beautiful small lady.     HAPPY BIRTHDAY MANON,   although a bit late I know,  but as sincere as if it were on your natal day.

  • I am spoiled and loved dearly by friends and daughters. I got a big package of herbs in my mailbox today from my oldest daughter. Judi

  • You have such a beautiful family!!

  • RYC: Yes, Michel, I believe I picked a scale off my foot today. I am at the half way mark...Just left the English side of the river, more on the French side now. Hope I make it to shore before cold weather.

  • A really lovely family Michel, as one proud Grandfather to another, I know exactly how you feel! I have an old Grandfather Clock too, its been in the family for long long time. I feel I need to apologise for not having written my Blog in French as well as English. Such is life! I should have paid more attention when at School. Happy Birthday Manon.

  • Hello Michel,

Sorry that I have not been  here for a while.  Your family always look to be very sweet and happy together.  Actually, I am wondering how your daughter in law is now.  Am I right in saying that Marina is the one who was quite sick not so long ago?

Yes indeed time stops for no man, but isnt it comforting to know that there is One who holds all time in His hands ... and blessed be his name forever.

*grins* ... Of course you may call me Narelle if you prefer.  I answer to both.  Lily is just my online name that is used by a couple of friends and even two of my students who have or had xanga sites and whom i have been known to chat with on msn.  They are also good friends of my daughter Tiffany.  It is funny to have them pass me and say quietly as they do ... "Hello Lily" instead of using my formal name as all other students do.  It is obvious that they get a real kick out of it too.

Well, God bless you and yours Michel.  I wonder what Manon means.  It is such a lovely name.  Best wishes to her on her birthday and to Antoine on his un-birthday ... *winks*

    Bye for now,

    Narelle / Lily

  • Michel, congratulations on that beautiful (and cute too) family!  Beau/belle et mignon/mignonne aussi!  Particulierement la jeune fille, tres mignonne.

Yes, very hot here but nicer yesterday and even better today!  Fall is on the way and "back to school" time, the "feel" bringing back memories of childhood each year at this time.  Also at this time of year it brings memories of the beginnings of football (Americain, certainment!) practice, by law no earlier than August 15 aux lycees, a little earlier au universite. (peut etre August 1).

It was an excellent educational vacation here and I was interested to hear many people speaking French, visitors, many from Quebec judging from automobile license plates but others perhaps from France too.  A strong Euro helps bring many visitors here!  A weak dollar keeps us more at home!  Also, many English people.  I realized Yorktown was an interesting phenomenon, the playing out of the global competition for colonies and resources between England and France, in the 1700s and 1800s.  So, it was interesting to have these two European powers battle here, across the ocean, in North America.  Yorktown in particular, Generals Rochambeau and Lafayette and Admiral de Grasse, against English General Cornwallis and others, the French fleet against the English fleet.

Your comment, "eat" contre "heat..."  I knew what you were saying!  In French, the H would be silent, like 'eat!  This is how we would say it if we try to speak English but sound like we're French!  haha. Merci.

  • Time does march on, with or with out us. I have really come to know this, with my children moving out on thier own.

Nothing like having a good time with your family.

  • "Rhythm to time": I like that! Happy Birthday to Manon!  She is a lovely, young lady!

(I have pictures of the desserts on my blog so you can play by choosing a picture (there is only one pie, but it is made similar to custard.) Maybe some desserts look familiar to what you have in France.)

  • Yes, family life is the center of life. Love, forgiveness, Joy and shared sorrow. All of the elements for a life fully-lived.

Love the music on your site, Michel. Thanks for sharing.

How's your daughter-in-law who has been so ill?

    Much love,

    Christy

  • How is your garden. Mine is somewhat behind yours I think cannot harvest my potatoes yet. I have lots of tomatoes and squash though. I am hoping the critters will leave my pumpkins alone this year, have tried to grow those huge ones for Halloween several years in a row now. The racoons come along and take a big bite out of them or maybe it is opossum, but something does. Judi

  • You know, time is really amazing... like I can't believe how much time has passed since I first stumbled upon your blog! I remember seeing pictures of Manon and Antoine a couple of years ago... they've grown up so much! :D

Children are such blessings, I cannot wait to have my own! ;)

  • Belated birthday wishes to Manon.  Hope she had a wonderful week.

  •  Thanks for always stopping by . Yes we are both Blessed with lovey children and grandbabies . Hugs my friend and God be with you and yours.

  • RYC: Yes, we have four children, two girls and two boys. It is a joy to watch them learn and grow!

  • Such a lovely family!

  • A very happy (belated) birthday to Manon.

I also hope that everything is well with Marina.

I am glad that the card came to Janine and yourself.

  • These are such wonderful pictures of a beautiful family. You do well to cherish them...the important moments of time frozen in the lens of a camera.

  • Yes, a little more than one month away. I can't wait! I am getting married on the beach which I think is very romantic.

  • Awesome birthday party.  Happy Birthday to Manon.  Give hugs.

Your daughter in law looks good.

There was only one or two words I didnt know this time but figured it out.

Yeah I sometimes feel like Noahs Arc.   I have had just about every animal under the sun at my house. I have had a herd of cows, horses, coyotes, a red fox, snakes coming out of the woodowork, mice, tortoises, bears, cats, a wild bunny, deer, vultures, I have a bird and all I need is a dove.   I could get a alligator or a crocodile but am not ready for one.   I also have had a water moccasin.  That was no fun.

One of the horses was a peeker.  Peeked in the bathroom window.

    Be good.

  • I think I will still get a bit of corn, potatoes, peppers and of course the pumpkin. I love the fresh taste. Judi

  • I've always felt time drag's very slowly while I am working my 12 hour shift's and it seems to stop one minute before 8 AM when I am standing at the time clock to punch out my card and go home.  My day's off fly as though time is in a big hurry.  Nothing is wrong Michel I am just waxing and buffing hard wood floor's, I'm very glad I only have to do this once a year   I'll return to Xanga soon.  I only have one day off this week and that will be Wednesday, seems everyone wants to take their vacation's in August this year.  Love the pics especially the one of you and Janine with the grandchildren.  Shirley

  • Thanks for your encouragement. It's been a big job but it will be finished soon.

  • I love the photo of the clock work Michel. It is a piece of art.

    ~Yvette

yes you are right about my love being a way from me, it's as if half of my heart is away till he returns.

  • bonjour michel !

Toutes mes sympathies.

sorry, i have to switch to english since i'm not sure if i can write this correctly in french. i may not update my weblog for some time. i need rest. but i can still read comments thru emails. and i will always reply to your comments, mon ami. ;)

    take care!

    rio

  • What wonderful pictures. thanks for sharing your memories with us.

  • What a wonderful birthday for Manon. How special to spend it with her loving Grandparents. :) You have a beautiful family.

    Blessings

  • Regarding your comment, yes my daughter was in Montpellier for almost a month and Paris for three days.  She lived in a dorm with other American students and took two classes that were taught in French.  They also went on field trips on the weekends to nearby places.  It was a wonderful experience for her.   She is taking French in school here in the States.

  • Happy birthday to Manon. Well, time for me to go back to work tonight. How are you today, Michel? Judi

  •   I like how you segued the clock into the birthday, quite poetic. Your grandchildren are growing! What a lovely celebration you had. There is always something so cozy and secure in your family gatherings, it warms my heart.

  • I've been "lurking", admiring the pictures of your family, for a while now, and I'm wondering if Antoine resembles what you looked like at his age? There is something in his expression that suggests an original thinker and philosopher--as well as the imp!
His eyebrows also seem the shape of yours.
Families bring us some worry and care as well as happiness, but it seems that if we can face life together, our lives are so much richer, and celebrations such as this remind us how fortunate we are. I thank you so much for the glimpses of your lives that we can enjoy.
ryc- Frank was proposing to my great grandmother Arabella. She wrote about their love and lives in a book for her children.
It's a reminder that we should all write the book of our lives for our children.
Happy Birthday to Manon, and many many happy returns!
    Joy

  • I mean "life"!

  • I love how in France you have wine everywhere. I wish it was like that here in the U.S. ...people would think we were lushes if we drank that much.

How did I miss two of your posts. The last two days I thought I read everyone's posts in my subscription manager.
