  • Repetition d 'un concert . Rehearsal for concert .

    Répétition pour un concert

    Rehearsal for a concert

English version below the French texts .

This last weeks our choir gave two concerts . We sang pieces of Saint Saens , Gounod , Mozart , Van Berchem etc… .
I always have  loved to sing . And I sing as a tenor .Singing in a choir brings to you the deep emotion to participate to the harmony of the polyphony  , to the beauty of the melody.
Music is a sublime language .You feel  yourself  in joy and peace .

    RIEUX

You forget the worries of life . This is what this picture shows .
My colleague makes silly jokes  and
makes a wink to the photographer , Brigitte .

We were waiting for the beginning of the rehearsal , sat on a bench
    ..

    RIEUX

This is a picture of the rehearsal including respiratory exercises ,  exercises in vocalization  .
As you see on the pictures we are relaxed but serious ( all in all  ).
I am at the middle of the first row . ( wearing  red/ brown shoes !!  )

    RIEUX

Rehearsal and concert last 3 or 4 hours and this is exhausting .

This is what my awful and pitiful face shows on the picture  . I am thirsty and hungry !! Tired but happy .
And next Saturday June 2 , this is me who will direst the choir for a wedding  !! ( the master of the choir being not available )

Three photos taken by Brigitte Deprez

Vive la musique !     Go  music !

  • "Music is a sublime language" sublime and universal.

  • I belonged to a choir when I was much younger, soprano, I still miss not getting to sing.  So I sing along to the radio, not the same but still fun.  I agree that music is part of the universal language. Tears, laughter, music...I'm sure there are more.

Good luck directing the choir for the wedding!!

  • You look sharp in your suit! Music is a tool to soothe the soul...but you would never catch me singing in front of anyone.

  • I bet you have a beautiful voice!  I'd love to hear you sing.  I agree, you do look very sharp in your suit as MarkLupton said   I hope you finally got to eat because you look like you're starving in the last picture!

  • I'm sure your wife enjoyed seeing you in that spiffy suit!

I hope you enjoyed your meal! I know real thirst. I went hiking the other day and forgot water. I felt half dead by the time I was finished.

  • You look really smart in your suit, Michel! And I imagined you must have a fine singing voice. Now that is one talent I really admire, because so much of singing is conveying feeling, isn't it?

    cheers,
    Caroline

  • Tres bien, Michel!  Et bravo!

For years I have wanted to learn the French words to "Un Flambeau, Jeanette...." and it seems like there is another Christmas one...and "Sur Le Pont D'Avignon," and a few others we sang in French class, and also re-learn the ones I listened to and have liked as an adult, like the one we chatted about before, "Il Etait La Dans Ce Feuteuill...."  There are several I want to learn.

There was an interesting movie some years back -- I think it was "Network News," and an actor, Albert Brooks, was very smart and could sing songs in their original language -- like French, maybe Italian too -- but he couldn't make it as a "news anchor," partly because he got very nervous and sweated profusely.  Another actor, William Hurtt, didn't know much but was very "cool" on camera -- all greatly to Albert Brooks' frustration!  Anyway, I'd like to be like that, be able to sing at least some songs in their original language, to the amazement and admiration of my wife and children!  haha.

  • To be able to sing must be one of the nicest things to do, and to sing as a tenor ....Waw! you are very talented.

I bet you are having a very exting time with the rehearsals even if it is very tiring.

I have to be happy just to listen to the music.

I wish you a very great saturday concert at the wedding.

    Amitiés

    Carlo

  • I would've loved to hear you sing. You are a man of many talents, Michel! Hope you're keeping well.

  • My brother is in a choir and he loves it.

You look just like James Bond - shaken not stirred.

  • Awww. And you guys look so good dressed up (even in your brown shoes!). I'm sure they were awesome concerts.

  • Yes,singing in a choir is a sublime experience-excepting  the exhausting parts!

  • What elegance MICHEL...SINGING/music brings happiness I love singing too, when I am alone....my little Sebastiano is the only one who asks me to sing for him. So next saturday you'll be directing, what an honourable and responsable role. Wonderful.
    RITA

  • Does your wife sing in the choir with you?

  • What a handsome fellow you are.

I promise I wont tell anyone you were being pitiful.

If you were hungry and tired I probably would of looked like that too.

  • Michel...you look so HANDSOME in your suit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Does Janine sing in the choir with you?

I love music too......my daughter is always in choirs ....at school..college....everywhere!  She loves to sing also!!

yes...musci makes the world go 'round!!!  ...and I thnk music is the universal language!!

    God bless you all ((((((HUGS)))))

  • That's VERY wonderful.    I love the picture of you very tired.  You've worked hard.  I wish I could hear your choir sing.

  • Oh how wonderful! You will be Master of the choir* and oh, so true your words.."the beauty of the melody.
Music is a sublime language .You feel  yourself  in joy and peace ."

I love music..it fills your soul....it would be so nice to hear you sing* you all look fantastic and what work you do ..it shows you do love it..and what a special time you must have...* enjoy.* and take good care, hugs..Lee

  • I love your pictures. I, too, love music. It does wonderful things for a body. I'm sure you'll do great directing the choir this weekend. I hope you'll have pictures of that to post.

  • I love being a part of a choir.  Just to join my voice with  others in concert.  I also love hearing a good choir.  I think I would have enjoyed hearing those pieces.

    That food looks good!

    votre amie,

    Francoise

  • Look at you in your tuxedo! I have always loved to sing to. I sing soprano or alto. I always sing the harmony to songs on the radio. Make a joyful noise to the Lord ~ and to God be the glory!

Regardez-vous dans votre smoking! (tuxedo? suit? costume?)

  • Music is such a delightful part of life.

I sadly lack the ability to hit even the slightest note.

  • Lovely photos of you Michel. Frank was a tenor and an enthusiastic leader of a choir, he really enjoyed the choir practices and the actual singing at Masses. I don't thnk his choir ever got refreshments after their practices though BYW I did remember my time in the maternity hospital last Monday - it wasn't a very happy time though as Julie was quite ill. Marie

  • I didn't know you sang, Michel!  It's so good to see you so happy and enjoying life!

    <3,

    Aubrey

  • Ahh Music!!  The language everyone speaks.  Thirsty, hungry, tired but, viola!  happy and it shows.   Vive la musique.

    GraceAnn

  • I am sure the bride will love your singing as much as Laura did the choir at her wedding. It must be wonderful to have such a talent for singing and it gives you much joy as well.

Of course you do look very handsome in your bow tie

  • Michel...you look so very handsome!  I did not know that you sang in a choir?

Music for me carries so much emotion.  With some music...you can feel it to the point sometimes of bringing tears to your eyes.  I would love to be a singer but with many of the songs...I would not make it through the song and leave behind a big puddle of tears!  ;O)  I love also how music brings back or recalls certain memories of time.  You not only remember what was going on but you can remember the things you were seeing and sometimes even thoughts.  I just love how music can do that!

I would love to hear you sing!  Matter of fact, I would love to hear and see you with your group above.  Does your digital camera have video with the audio?  I know that we would all love that - no pressure!  ;O)

Have a wonderful time next week - Master of the Choir - that sounds lovely!

    xoxoxo Cat

  • To have a voice to sing is a gift to share it is lifting other's soul's to happiness.  I would have been able to pick you out of that picture without your telling me where you were.  You're a good man Michel to share your love for music with others.  Shirley

  • Glad you had a good time.

    Music is wonderful, isn't it?

  • How wonderful!! I love the pictures of you here, Michel, and the expression on your friend's face is priceless! Yes music is joyful and I can see how much you're enjoying yourself here. You look very nice dressed up in your suit!

There looks to be some very tasty food on that table. My father could sing well and was in the school choir as a boy.

  • How wonderful.  I didn't know that you loved music as well.

  • Vive la Musique indeed.  I too like to sing - all sorts of music.  Even though I have never been known to be able to carry a tune worth mentioning, I sing for myself as I enjoy the process.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time with the choir and congratulations on your being master of the choir next week.

     Yvonne

  • Wish I could hear you sing. Are your songs sang in French? By the way, your photos rock.

    Good day!!

    (_.•´¯`•×»Annika

  • I have always wished I could sing.  There are a lot of really fine singers in my husband's family.  Oh, you look so wistfully at the food in the last picture!  How long have you sung in the choir?  Good luck directing on Saturday!

  • wow, Michel~!  you really clean up nice.

  • The comraderie of a choir, working together to produce a beautiful sound, and beautiful music is enchanting. I can be moved to tears sometimes when I hear a certain song or arrangement. Good for you!

  • good luck for your next performance!

  • You guys look like you are having fun. Directing the choir congrats Michel. Judi

  • Bravo bravo! I don't have the gift of voice..I can sing, but not well..I would rather play, or listen. I am interested in what pieces you all sang. Especially which Gounod piece. Usually he is known only for his "Ave Maria" for vocal.

June 2 is recital day for me. All my students are performing.

  • What a fine photo to be treasured---You look good enough to pass for at least another fifty years   Bravo Michel     from Ron

  • You are blessed to have the gift of music.  alas, I who love music very much, cannot carry a tune or play an instrument.  I can however enjoy the work of others.

    As ever, Carol Suzanne

  • looks like fun and a good exhaustion! would love to hear the music!

  • wow!! you are going to be the choir director!!! bonne chance!! you are so very cool and clever! i'm so pleased to hear you love to sing also! i used to love to sing before i got sing! i must start again, non? your colleague is funny. love his face, winking at brigitte!

  • If music be the food of love then Play on! i have been involved in music(playing, signing, writing, performing and producing) for the last thirty years, ALL types of music are the one true international form of communication,

comme tu dit Vivre la musique!

  • This is so nice, thanks for sharing!

  • My husband is a tenor, used to sing in a local choir, but then got a bit busy.....they sang wonderful pieces, eh bien,

  • Oh how I wish I could hear your choir!

One of the saddest things of my life was the loss of my singing voice. I can still hit the high notes on good days, soprano, but my breathing and such makes it so I can no longer be in our church choir.

  • What a fun experience!  Joseph, my mother, sister and I were all in our church choir for many, many years.  It was such a blessing and such great joy to be a part of a group like that.  We were even able to travel with our group and make a record as well.  I hope you are enjoying our time as I know that we enjoyed ours.

We are now in Florida on our vacation...just arrived last night.  We have two weeks of fun waiting to happen.  Today will be a down day with the children spending much of the day in the pool with friends.  I must run for now.  Have a great week!

    Karen

  • Dear Michel, you look so dapper, love the bowtie and pink cheeks!    My sister sings in the Myerson Symphony Chorus, 4 years now, and loves it!  I did not know you had this facet to your life...you are so multi-talented

Hopefully, after eating and drinking, you felt like smiling again, I would have liked to see your mouth in an O as your were singing!  Love you, Lowie

  • You look so handsome all dressed up. How is your garden doing. I am excited about mine using the spinach already. I love greens. Judi

  • Gentle Michel,

Thank you for your exquisite "input" upon my reflections.  Thank you for the "stone" you added to a serious foundation.  I know exactly what you meant when you wrote that people have "different values" and living in "small groups".  A "value" is a "value" is a "standard."   In the last half century, people have been confused  with value/standard vs feelings.  Feelings change from day to day, thus there is no established "standard", therefore, by what measure do we base or by what barometer do we guide our lives if "warm and fuzzy" or "rage and anger" is our lead.  There must be a personal sacrifice...for the good and better...  It has become the world of "man is the measure of man."  That is a delusion...but that is exactly what happens when God is "invited out" of one's heart, mind and soul.

  • It is so good to see your photos from the choir rehearsal/performance. I wish I could have heard the concert.

Tenors are very valuable people to choir directors!

  • Any day of music is a soul satisfying day! Go Music Indeed! YAY! I loved the pictures. Way fun.

  • I bet you have a beautiful voice, Michel.  Would love to be able to hear you sing.  We have good singers in our family----sons and grandchildren.  Don't know where they got their talent from, since Ken and I are not good singers.  I love listening to good music-----played or sung.

You look so handsome dressed up!

  • Good luck directing the choir; it should be exciting.

  • I forgot to answer your question.  Yes, Jeff, Judy, and two youngest will be living on the bus full-time for between one and two years.  They will be traveling all over the western United States, deciding where they want to settle down permanently.  Then they will buy a home.

  • Hello Michel!
You get to stand in the front!! and singing is good for your health AND you have to be the director of the choir because of the director's absence? that is impressive.
The food on the table looks very very good... I see cakes

YES, Christina is in the picture. She is in the back row on your right side. She has glasses and a sweet smile haha

Thank you for your good wishes for Caesar. He is a loved cat.
I must take good care of him.

    ~happy week-end Rosemary

  • You must be a fine singer, Michel. Music is indeed a sublime language, more so a beautiful language, a heavenly language.

ryc: it is more so mental anguish, mental distress than physical. though often our mental state often reflects on our physical state as well.

    sorry I haven't commented in a while.

    God Bless You,
    Ren

  • I, too, love to sing, Michele--and I even sing tenor! Our church choir was small, and my voice is low-pitched. We really needed a soprano or two, though. I'm not a good singer, but that doesn't stop me from doing it. I hope the Lord meant it when He said to make a joyful noise!
There is a custom in the Southern American mountains--the Smokeys--on Saturdays, they have "singing" most of the day long. They don't need to read music, or even use a book--they harmonize naturally. I've only heard singers like that a time or two, and I was so surprised when I first heard them. It is the most beautiful music I've ever heard. To the people who participate, it is a prayer meeting in music.
I would love to hear your choir this Saturday. I know you're a fine director. You give the other singers confidence.
I hope the music brings you peace and comfort in these hard times, Michel.
    Joy

  • So lovely to make music from your body and soul.  I used to sing in school and had a very good tenor voice....then smoking took it's toll.  I have not smoked in years now and find that I can still, at times, carry a tune! Love to you and yours Nancy

  • Thanks for the link of another Rose Cottage, Michel!! It's a very pretty house. Also thanks for your very nice compliment.

  • Bon jour mon ami,

I've returned to answer your question.  Yes, all of the kids knew "papa".   He was very kind to the kids.  Took them places, told them all sorts of wonderful stories.  I never met him so I can't comment but I think it would be much easier to be nice when you don't have all of the responsibility.

  • Hi Michel,

I love classical music.  As a young person in School we had regular music classes and our instructor would play classical pieces on a player.  An experience I remember vividly was his playing Saint  Saens Carnival of the Animals.  After it had been played we were asked what it was that we had heard.  No one in the class could tell him but me.  For a very short while I felt so smart.  I actually couldn't believe no one else in the class knew what it was they had heard.  You are very fortunate to have a voice to lend to a singing group.  Bunny used to sing with the Sweet Adolines here in the states.

    About Harry Potter:

I think Harry Potter readers are going to have to wait to discover exactly what the Deathly Hallows are.  The closest I can come would be thru defining each word Deathly:  Of, resembling, or characteristic of death: a deathly silence  or  to make holy; sanctify; consecrate. (taken from Dictionary.com). and Hallows:  absolve, anoint, baptize, beatify, canonize, commend, confirm, consecrate, cross, dedicate, enshrine, eulogize, exalt, extol, glorify, hallow, honor, laud, magnify, make holy, offer, offer benediction, ordain, panegyrize, praise, pray for, pronounce holy, sacrifice, sign, sprinkle, thank  (taken from the thesaurus, synonyms).

I then put them together and would say we are close to what the title points to as the most exciting / important experience in the book.  It's sooooooooooo exciting I can barely wait.  I sure hope this last book has a terrific ending.  Good endings are the most important part.

A wonderful Internet spot for the books is  http://www.jkrowling.com/  and the fan site. http://www.harrypotterfanzone.com/

The fan sice has a dictionary for Harry Potter book terms.

    See:  http://www.harrypotterfanzone.com/?ID=info/dictionary

All of these internet spots are useful to see what is happening with Harry Potter.

  • Ahhh, Michel!  How nice you look all dressed up, but then, when haven't you?  I think you are what we would call a "well-dressed gentleman".  I am glad to see you had fun.  It is good to sing.  It brings out the emotions of the soul.

Here at home, yes, I have to drive everywhere.  Even though it is close by car, it is about 10 miles to each of the girls' homes and about 20 miles each way to both places that I work now.  The driving is what is eating up a lot of my income.  This is why I wish I knew how to ride a motorcycle.

As for work itself, I actually do rest more at work.  I only do some cleaning and cooking, but for the most part, a good deal of my day is spent sitting with the client.  They just need someone in the house who can help them with anything they might need (or in some cases - to keep them out of trouble).  Of course, I do the extra things like massaging their feet, doing their hair, or helping them with the computer.  Whatever needs to be done.

I know that I filled yesterday with as much as I could fit into the day.  Maybe I overdid it a little bit?!  Our friends from Belgium have arrived.  They are not so far from you.  How I wish I could get over there again and then I could visit.  They live in Peer, Belgium.  Have a great day, Michel! - Rachel

  • Music to me is universal ..no matter what language it may be or the type of genres it is from ..we can all relate & understand, enjoy & appreciate

  • I forgot to add this link:  http://www.harrypotterfanzone.com/?ID=info/origins

Very helpful for me, that one.

Also, have since being here downloaded 3 versions of Carnival of the Animals midi, all quite nice.  I collect from this site, http://www.classicalarchives.com/ , you might like.  They have mp3 and more.

  • Handsome you are and i would love to hear your voice. if you ever record you singing i would like a copy. You have such a fun life. God Bless you and yours

  • Michel! I bet you all sound wonderful! We have a community choral group here that is about one hundred and fifty members. They often sing withthe local symphony. I go as often as I can.

I hope your getting out and enjoying your garden. I'm going to be posting pictures of the containeer water garden I am trying to get established soon. It looks kind of sad right now... lol But when everything seattles it will look nice. (I hope)

ryc: Thanks for the nice compliments. I like it when ou like my pictures. Ang

  • What fun...singing is expressing and sharing in a concert atmosphere.  Sounds like you had a wonderful time and worked up uite an appetite...by the way...your face does not look awful ...I hope you enjoyed the buffet...Huggs...Sassy

  • Vive la musique! is so much more fun and passionate than Go music! I wish I knew another language that was more expressive than English.

I love music too. I used to sing in choir and play the flute in our church orchestra but time doesn't allow it right now. Some day I'll get back to it. Have a great week. I look forward to your posts.

  • Even though you were tired by the last photo, you looked like you had a wonderful time. It is great to sit and laugh with friends and be in a place where it feels so good. And that is exciting that you will direct the choir, but was this yesterday? I think I am late stopping in.

  • You look so handsome in your choir suit.

  • Thank you for your nice comments, the wedding took place at "Eglise St Foy" in Selestat, there were two priests one black, one white, one catholic, one protestant, the music for the service had a gospel feel with a choir and two guitar players,

    A bientot

    Tim

  • Happy Sunday Michel!  It is very storm here today...thunder and lightening, Oh, My! The O shape is your mouth when you are singing, and trying to make the sound more powerful to your audience!  I love your Friday acronym  *wink* .... seemed like everyone liked that one!  I am off to the movies with mama, to see The Lives of Others.  I will have to show her your choir pictures, as she likes your blog, too!  Have you seen any movies lately?  Thinking of you in France and bouncing good thoughts from Texas to you...I love you, Lowie

  • I love to sing, but people do not love listening to me because I can't carry a tune!

  • Aren't you the handsome tenor/gentleman??? I would love to be there to see you sing. Oddly, my hearing loss only allows me to hear the alto. Strange! I can follow along if I know the piece being played.

    RYC: Thank you, Dear friend!

  • My, don't you dress up nicely....a dress rehearsal is always confrorting...so that you get an ideal of the performance.  I sing in a choir at church and we wear robes each Sunday, only formal black and white for special performances.  We have never sung for a wedding, but have done several funerals.

  • poor michel, you look so tired and hungry in the last picture. ryc, hehe yes, aren't i spoiled?? my mom is so fun and kind and brought me a ton of stuff!!! i still have to take pictures of the clothes she gave me!! haha also yes, i wouldn't mind the word partners so much if they didn't use it so much in england, but i think it's just annoying that they use it so much in england! that's why it bothers me! yes, it's a recent trend for the use of partners for gay couples. anyay, i hope you had a lovely lovely weekend! did you work on your garden? ok, michel!! have a great day!! love, angela

  • Salut Michel,

    cheers,
    Caroline

  • How ya doing????

  • The incindent was on the job not with the client just a thing with the another caregiver. It was rather unpleasant but not terrible. I enjoyed putting in my garden yesterday. I hope I can keep it watered in the hot weather. Judi

  • Hey.  You're looking good in those photos.  Keep it up.

  • ryc: Thank you Michel the festival is not only celebrated in Malaysia but also in Brunei ..in some of the districts where they all live

  • MIchel, Thank you, for your comments. Musique de Chambre in English is "chamber music."

  •  (RYC) You have spoken well, my friend.  If we can show the love and compassion of Christ, then we have understood what Christ wants us to do.

I know my entry was a bit mixed-up, and probably should be re-written, but I was trying to show how some people look down on other people simply for their looks, their occupation, their background, etc...
I saw yesterday how people have been hurt by others who are suppose to show the love of Christ, but don't.  It was an eye-opening experience.

I know exactly what you mean, Michel... Seems like our posts are similar

    God bless, my friend!

    Ciao.

  • Merci, Michel. I'll try my best to find a video and add it to Xanga

  • Great!

  • Raining hard here so good for my garden. Worked in the yard until it started now time to go to bed so I can work tonight. Whahoo is like oh good. lol, Judi

  • Salut Michel! You could say I'm a fan! I have been training & showing dogs for 18 years; rottweilers for the last 13 years. They are my babies! Thank you for visiting and for your nice compliments. Have a great day!

  • Great pictures, and I can tell how much you enjoy sharing your talent for singing with others!  I can imagine how thirsty you were after rehearsing and singing!

RYC ~ A garage sale is when you bring all of the items you want to sell out to the garage (or in my case, the driveway!) and put price tags on everything and sell it! Here in the south, people want to haggle with you about the price, so you mark it more than you think it is worth and go down in price when asked!  We sold so little, and donated the rest to a charity when we were done - it was a bad weekend for garage sales!! :O)

Thanks for stopping by and saying hi!

    Love ~ Aimee

  • Music is balm for the soul!!

I, too , am a singer as you learned by reading my 101 question survey. Tenors are some of my most favorite people!

    This is good to know.

    Have a great week!

  • Personally cannot carry a tune. Bravo on your talent in singing.

  • I always have wished that I could sing. You look like you were having fun. How is the garden? I have not planted yet so my vegetables will be quite late this year. I like the music on your blog!!!

  • Coucou Michel....

  • Michel! I hear beautiful music!
Poor Michel says "Give me but a morsel of .....cake?" (I can hear him say this in my mind with a French accent)
    I love this post.

  • you live such a full life - how wonderful :)
i love music, too...i wish to be in a choir one day!!

    xo

  • RYC Yes, Michel, I have always loved knowing words and when I was still able to hear, I remember being thrilled with television because the words were pronounced and I was a quick learner. I will never forget a celebrity who admitted he did not know how to pronounce hyperboly. Until he said it, neither did I!!!LOL. To me, French joins Latin in being a romance language.
