Here is a part view of our vegetable garden on the last 4th of August 2006 . At the foreground , about 1000 young leeks have just been planted , then salad , two row of celeri and parsley , at last a large patch of green beans . On the picture below you cannot see at the other end of the garden : gherkins , carrots .and squashes ( except on the second picture ) .. We live in a town but in this garden we have the feeling to be in the countryside . It ' s very peaceful

My wife Janine loves to harvest . This day she picked two buckets of green beans then then she came again to pick up gherkins . On the picture she carries them and is going to check the tomatoes .

Our grand children Manon and Antoine were there and were happy to pick up squashes and spaghetti squashes with their grandmother and bring back them triumphantly at home ( photo below )

Here is a part of the crop , on this day . Isn' t it beautiful ? I confess this enchants my sight ! I am rejoiced to see those products of the ground and of our work !

Oh, and what a wonderful meal those will make! Nothing tastes better than fresh picked vegetables! You garden is so large, especially for living in town. I know it took a lot of work. No wonder Janine enjoys the harvest! {heart}
Oh your garden looks so nice. I love fresh vegetables. I only raise flowers and herbs now, my niece raises all the vegetables and I get them from her. Judi
You have a wonderful garden! I long to have a garden like yours. In every place I lived until I moved to Sydney I always had a vegie garden, even if it was a very small one due to limited space. Now all I can manage is a few rows of beans in a large plastic tub on my balcony, and some pots of herbs. Unfortunately my lemon tree does not do very well in a pot. But I do have plans....hopefully in about 3 years I will be able to move out of Sydney, and find a place where I can have a vegie garden again.
Beautiful garden.
I've never been able to garden vegetables very well. I do ok with flowers though.
I've never had leeks. Hmm..Maybe I should try some! You have a lovely garden!
<3,
Aubrey
My family has two plots in a community garden where more than half of it goes to community food pantry's around town. I must say your vegetables look better than ours--but I find the fresh vegetables in my garden so tasty! We had bug problems but I could not use pesticides (which I would not use anyways) but could not remember what we could use--so I just let the bugs have there way! Today I found a caterpillar on one of the tomato plants--he is going to be a big butterfly or something!!!
It does look wonderful and peaceful!!
Just today I was given some home-grown tomatoes. What pure delight!!! (My little garden fizzled this year...or maybe it sizzled as I often forgot to water it.)
Oh...that up there is me...vgarr361....I've changed my name and returned.
What a wonderful garden!
I absolutely love gardening. It is one of the happiest things to do. I love to come home from work and go tend my plants. I also love to grow exotic plants form across the world and see whethe rI can take care of them.
Beautiful Grand children. Cool veggy garden.
We only have this moment really my friend that is where peace and serenity lie. Judi
I truly admire your sense of peace...
Our spirits are happiest when close to mother nature for we connect with the land on which we live. My mother loved planting anything flowers and especially a garden to watch her hard work and efforts push up from the dirt it was the best medicine she could get. Your garden my friend is beautiful your rewards for your hard work will be enjoyed by those you love and the lesson you are teaching your grandchildren will always remain with them generation to generation. My most favorite vegetable are tomatoes followed by cucumbers both are most favored when straight from the garden it is a hunger felt all winter for one never forgets the delightful taste of home grown vegetables. You are a teacher of life Michel it shows in your hard work through your love for your family. May you enjoy many meals from your garden.
Shirley
you have a lovely garden and delicious vegatables!
J'aime beaucoup vos légumes!
gardeners have a joy of living, the planting and caregiving. waiting watching the seedlings open their first two leaves. then the full days of sun and lazy bumble bee moving between each plant to complete the cycle toward the autumn harvest. gardens are full of life...and your tomatoes are plump and juicy, the lettuce looks so crisp...the salad must have been wonderful. i am off to prune my walnut tree whose branches have taken a very sideways turn.....off to my own garden...-g
It is a wonderful garden! You are fortunate to be able to grow such beautiful vegetables. Maybe I will be able to expand my little garden next year. I hope to be able to put up pictures like this. Your grandchildren will remember "Grandma and Grandpa's Garden" for a long time to come. We know well the work that goes into such a garden! But, to me, it is all worth it. - Your friend, Rachel
What a harvest!
I love vegetables. I love your garden too.
Manon and Antoine are sooooo adorable
How lucky they are to have you and Janine for grandma and grandpa.
I have not done much work in the garden. I am afraid to get more poison ivy and it is so hot and blah. so my flowers receive only the minimal attention my husband will give them (water. no trimming)
Thank you for your encourging words, Michel. I miss Blizzie very much.
I might go skating tomorrow... I'll see. Maybe.
♥
I WANT YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!
oui. c'est bien sur.
RYC: merci pour ton commentaire gentil.
Nice shots.
Don't forget to come by and see the new chicken picture.

Now that is good food! Maybe I can try a garden now that I live in a more temperate climate!
What a wonderful bounty. I am going to move some plants around, so I can make more room for veggies. This year I only had room for a tomatoe plant, green pepper plant and onions. I would like to grow much more, and some berries.
Beautiful garden!
I can't take a French class this year. Je suis triste!
Your grandchildren look adorable! Especially your grandson -- he looks very cute and triumphant carrying that squash on his head like that.
It's lovely having a garden to work and play in, isn't it? Here in Singapore, land is very limited. Most of us live in apartment blocks and there is no land for gardening.
Your harvest looks plentiful and beautiful. Indeed, it is a deep joy to reap the works of your hands. You are blessed.
beautiful garden you have.. looks like you had a good harvest.. "Jeanines likes to harvest".. I wonder who likes to labour?
Ah Michel and Janine...the vegetables and fruit of your labors taste like nectar. We get all that in the store...picked green... and then sent to be purchased. Everything tastes like cardboard...not like the real thing. Raising your own garden is special. If we had more sun here I would try to raise something...but it is mostly fog and overcast. Enjoy the rewards of your labor...your grands will enjoy what most of children will never taste...the glory of a fruit from the earth that has ripened and plucked at the moment. What a taste! Joy!
Ah such bounty* Truly a feast for the eyes and the pallet..ryp below...really got a good laugh out of the dog sign..
Hope you are doing well..missed you...My friend from France..has send me another packet this day..and I have not yet had the chance to open it...Hopefully some good news !! and it feels thick so perhaps..some post cards too ..smiles...I have been watching French speaking movies of late..with subtitles of course..Your garden reminds me of a friends fathers in Villacroze..( sp?) 30 km from Salerun..( sp?) about an hour inward from Marsielle...just outside the castle..he had the most magnificent vegitable garden..wow not even able to spell in English tonight..wanted to say Bon Soir before I logged off this night..
((Wings))
I feel very lucky that I have been able to walk around your wonderful garden. Your harvest is bountiful , I have to say that those tomatoes look very yummy
Wonderful ----I simply don't know how you do it. I have a large garden but have long since given up in despair as the insects and bugs win every time. Also the supermarkets win on price and quality --they know how to do it and I do not Ron
I love vegetables from the garden. I ate some of my aunt's tomatos the other day and they were so sweet and fresh.
Your vegetable garden looks terrific, Michel! Janine and the children appear very happy with all this wonderful fresh food.
My father used to love growing vegies, just as you do. Lovely photos!
The last photo looks so appetising.
Thanks for your comment, Michel. I have a few issues to deal with at home at the moment, so please don't worry.
there is nothing quite like fresh vegitables grown with love in your own garden!!! you can sure never find veggies in the stores which taste so good!!
you have a beautiful garden! Seeing yours makes me want one
A lovely reminder of being with you in your garden - the BBQ and the drinks -especially the drinks sitting in the sunshine in the evening.
It's hard to believe it was about 14 months ago !!!! The weather isn't good here but everything is growing well in the rain.
Marie
very nice Michel...we are so dry here, just got rain on Monday but it might be too late. I will be picking tomatoes and digging potatoes this weekend. blessings!! melinda
Ah, Michel, your garden, Janine and your grandchildren are all beautiful! Here we call gherkins cucumbers. We call pickles gherkins. I am adding your equivalent to my dictionary!
When I was a young woman and lost my husband at Christmas time I knew when summer came that I would be taking care of his flower gardens. I knew not whether a plant was a weed or flower. A neighbor helped me learn the difference. I spent that summer in a job I hated, but I would come home, change clothes and work until dark then shower, fix a meal and shortly go to bed. I slept well and my father with surprise said I had never looked so well. Gardening is healing as well as being so satisfying. Thank you for bringing that memory to me!
It looks like it was well worth the work. Your vegetables look delicious!
What a large garden you have! Our soil is not productive and the summer too hot.
fresh vegetables...yummmmmm!
What a beautiful post. I miss my ability to have a big vegetable garden. I'm still laughing over your last post about the dog poop....LOL
Your garden is as lovely as you and your wife......
You is one lucky fauquet...........
Pardon my french..........
A wonderful kept garden is like heaven. It must take a lot ofwork to take care of it but you do very good. You must bevery proud. it is a pity that the weather is not to good to let the tomatoes ripe(I mean the green tomatoes),perhaps you could sacrifice some leaves a,d branches and some of the green tomatoes to allow the sun to try to make red what is left.
What is spaghetti courgettes? it is the first time I hear about that name.
Bien à toi
Carlo
Wow, I'm just not that brave.
I'm afraid my green thumb has not only wilted brown, but may soon fall off of my hand.
Looks really good!
they look beautiful!
I would like a real walled kitchen garden that opened right off my kitchen not possible here the way the house is situated. Judi
Tomorrow is DancingSun's birthday & you're invited!
how fun, from the soil to the table. we get to enjoy your heavenly harvest right along side of you. thank you!
So beautiful.
Ah, a beautiful garden and beautiful people in it. Would that I could still garden, and would that I had the property to plant in.
I remember years ago, Heather and I going into her Dad's garden, salt shakers in hand, picking sun warmed, ripe, beefsteak tomatoes, standing in the sun and eating them. He was a grand gardener.
your grandkids are adorable!
Michel your garden is wonderful! Living in a town, you seem to have more space than I do in the country
It is a joy to harvest what we've grown. I think it so amazing to plant a seed, grow a plant and see it turn out lots of fruit. Very fulfilling. Your veggies are beautiful, but your grandchildren even more!!!
I didn't plant beans this year, except for the runner beans I plant to attract hummingbirds. They aren't good producers, so I only let them dry and save them for planting next year. I give quite a few away too. Do you preserve leeks or do you just use a lot of them in cooking?
Thank you for the pictures...
There is nothing better than fresh vegetables!! You have a beautiful and bountiful garden. Looks like you must work hard to help it to produce so abundantly!
Thanks for sharing your pictures!
Christy
))
your garden looks great! and your grand children are so cute!
I really like to visit your blog. Not only do I get to test my memory of my high school French classes, but I also enjoy looking at your pictures!
Your site is very interesting. I've been trying to learn conversation French for about the last five years. My daughter took four years of French in high school, and in her third year she got to go to France and tour for 15 days. She also went to Monoco.
She, like me, loves France.
God bless you Sir.
Becker
My, that garden must certainly keep you busy all summer long. That is why you and Janine stay so young! Good food and good exercise!
What a nice vegetable garden you have.

Wow, I am amazed by the size of your garden! I have never known anyone to grow such a variety. Is this common in your area of France, or are you the exception?
ryc
In American jokes, chickens have been trying to get to the other side of the street for ages. This is proposed as what happens when they finally get there. There is some kind of celebration. The idea was initiated by my nephew.
I have been so proud of my garden this year, then I see your bounty....My goodness, you are blessed.
What an absolutely awesome garden!!! My tiny garden did not do well this summer. I think it was too hot with too little rain. I tried to water it with the garden hose, but it did not thrive. The soil here is mostly clay. I tried to work compost into the soil, but I think it needs more. I will try again next summer. Enjoy all of your delicious vegetables.
As ever, Carol Suzanne
How lovely your life is...so idyllic! Wish I could pick some veggies for my salad tonight! Enjoy some for me!
i will never say no to the attentions of a charming frenchman! thank you for coming by. your garden is lovely, and i can see why it brings you so much joy.
Beautiful peace!
Your garden looks absolutely wonderful! It is, indeed, very peaceful looking!!
Marguerite
Aren't we glad vegetables come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and colours! Praise the Lord!
If I ever retire I will have a vegetable garden. Judi
YMCA is like..."MJC" I think...YMCA is an exercise and community meeting place...has a gym, pool, and some meeting rooms. I work there lifeguarding.
I've always thought gherkins were cucumbers picked while small. I just learned differently. Thank you.
Did you make pickles from the gherkins?
bonjour michel! i've been absent from xanga for awhile, but i just wanted to tell you that i'm back. i'd leave a comment to you in french, but i'm really tired at the moment and i can't think straight.
-juli
Oh, I loved this. All those beautiful fresh veggies. No wonder you and Janine stay so healthy and young.
Such beautiful grandchildren.
votre amie,
Francoise.
Wow, you had a garden in your backyard.. That was cool!!
Your grandson looks like he's going to slam dunk the squash into the bucket.
Beautiful garden. So well kept, so clean and green. Very healthy eating with your own veggies.
beau jardin.
Wow, those vegetables sure look wonderful! I think you and the faamily have a special talent for farming and harvesting! I enjoyed the pictures, especially the one of the children. They are very cute!
Have a wonderful weekend, Michel (I have not updated yet but I hope to soon)!
Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh, Michael.....now you're talkin' my language! Lol I absolutely enjoyed your post, of you and your wifes garden. It is absolutely beautiful and so clean & the colors are so bright. It all looks so good. Your wife is lovely, as well as your grandchildren. Behind your grandchildren...the fence and flowers...are those also yours? It is just beautiful! You are so lucky to have a place like that in the city. WOW!!! I am just truly amazed. You've really been holding out on me. I had no idea you were even a tad bit country. You and your wife do a splendid job of raising a garden. You should be proud!
Have a wonderful weekend! Take care.
Your friend..........
~Kim~
The vegys look yummy hope all is well with you and yours.
May God Bless and keep you safe.

oh! Boulogne sur mer is not very far away! i've just looked it up on google! it is only across the channel! One day I hope to cross the channel and visit france! I have always dreamed of it!! I spent all my time as a little girl reading stories of the 3 musketeers and fell in love with france through the stories! i will definitely have to add Boulogne sur mer to my list of places to visit!
it's great that you can eat food right from your garden
i am envious!
Michel,
Thank you for your words. The neighbor couple are very weird. Enjoy your weekend!
Your garden is beautiful. Our tomatoes didn't do any good this year. We always have plenty of green beans. but I forgot to plant spegetti squash.
We grow green onions in the spring but not leeks. Do you plant leeks as plants? or seeds?
When I flew home on personal matters it was so great to eat the tomatoes right from the garden. I must confess I did a salt shaker with me. Have a great weekend and very nice pictures.
Yes michel, it's my first language.. And yes it's required for me to attend and to make a reflection..
Ohhhh Michel...your garden is just wonderful and the colors are so beautiful! There is nothing better than fresh straight from one's own garden!
You had mentioned that you had grandchildren here in the states? Would that mean that you and Janine might possibly come over for a visit? If you do...please let me know...I would love to visit with y'all if it is possible.
We are having very cool temperatures here and I am loving the change! This is my first fall season in almost 30 years!

I see I am 92 so you may not look. Yup went through a lot of reaction yesterday but it is over let go finished and let God take care of it. Judi
I recall your garden pictures from last summer, but I don't remember it being so big! You seem to have so much more this year. The vegetables have such a deep color and I bet everything tastes so good. Much better than the chemical laden produce in grocery stores.
Your grandchildren are cute and I'm sure they enjoyed helping out, especially since they have such splendid grandparents.
michel, u truly are a senistive person. i wonder at your quality of sharing joys, sorrows, apprehensions and confusions even across continents.
GREAT looking garden. I am so jealous. Because of the heat, there is very little left here in Texas. I am trying to get tomatoes started in the house to plant outside when the heat breaks. It has been a bit better.....in the 90s instead of 100s. Gardens give me peace. Working your hands through the soil invigorates the soul....... I don't know why..... but I suspect it is a connection to nature and to God. Blessings, kc
Those really look good. Our gardens here in Missouri were bad. We had such a dry summer that the gardens didn't do well at all. Everything is burned up. Were not now cause we got rain but its to late for the crops. BTW-Just thought i'd stop in and say hello. Take care and God Bless.
Michel, I'm amazed at how well you utilize your time. You not only travel but also grow vegetables! Hmm looking at the pictures, I want to start harvesting too except there is nothing in my backyard to harvest. I wonder is it too late to start planting some vegetables.
Beautiful garden. Your grandchildren are lovely, and they look so proud of the vegetables they helped pick. I can't wait to start a garden here in our new home. For now, I will just enjoy looking at the gardens of my friends.
Be blessed,
Melody
Ryc: What about; When a sheep is lost, leave all the flock and go look for the one thar hen been lost.
Wolly the sheep is a part of other stories. It is not finished yet.
Also " Don't leave the flock and adventure out by yourself without a guide."
"Don't trust shepherds you don't know"
The cloud is a variation of a angel. Wolly was lost and she was saved by a angel (cloud).

thanks for coming by to visit again, michel. anytime.
what is the white flower you have as your profile pic?
DS
Michel, thank you for the information on your anemone. The post is sweet, and I see you are such a sensitive soul. It brought tears to my eyes. I am not a gardener, but there are a few flowers here that always make me happy when they bloom....camelias, forget-me-nots, and fuschias being three I think of immediately. Merci! DS
A great garden , one worthy of being proud of, and the people are even more worthy of being proud of..well done mon ami
Dear Michel,
Thanks for stopping by to visit my site. I always enjoy the comments of others. I wrote the poem that you commented on. I have written many more poems earlier on my blogs, if you care to read them. I enjoy blogging each day.
Come back and talk to me again. I always have the welcome mat out for visitors from across the sea!!
Have a great week. This is a holiday in USA, so I'm not working!
Christy
Hey sweety we didnt do much today hope your day was great HUGS God Bless

You have the most beautiful garden.
I want to someday eat a fresh salad from your garden.
I'm growing some cayenne peppers, but that's about all I have time to cultivate.
Your garden is lovely and the fruits of it look delicious. We used to have a big garden, but my back does not let me work in it anymore and Dan does not like to do it alone, so we do not plant it anymore. I miss the fresh vegetables, especially the green beans!
Thanks for this link,I enjoyed seeing your garden and you family!I love spaghetti squash!
