  • Pour le plaisir !

    For the fun !

English version below the picture .

Cet ami aime me taquiner gentiment .

J’ aimerais !!!

Photo - composition  from The David ' s painting by Y. Lefevre January 2002

Here is  above a french painter David ‘ s painting showing the general Napoleon Bonaparte ( future Emperor Napoleon ) who was only 27 years old , crossing the Alpes . It was during the Italian campaigns in a war between the young French Republic  and the Empire of Austria  ( 1796 / 1797 ) . The general with only 50000 soldiers beat the Austrians in the Milano area in Northern Italia , crossed the Alps to arrive to 100 km from Vienna .  The Emperor of Austria asked peace and lost the area of Milano that becomes a republic and lost also the left bank of the river Rhine . The painting was made in 1802 .

But please , look closer at the picture . It has been modified . Colors are brighter and the face is not the Bonaparte ‘ s one but ......the mine !!!!! In fact this is a photo – composition that an ancient colleague sent to me as a gift at the New Year 2002 . Several years in a row he sent to me a  glorious “ portrait    in which I looked like a noble of the monarchy , or a pilote in a plane , or being in a wedding anniversary trip in a luxurious limousine in front the imperial Schonbrunn Castle in Vienna  . This friend loves to tease me kindly and I like his talent . And it is funny .

In the painting the horse seems to take flight . Much dynamism is in it . I look like pointing a direction in smiling : Go to the Alps , soldiers ? No way but this is a bit my feelings  . The difference is that  I am pointing the … . Provence  , a wonderful area of South – eastern France  where we go from next Tuesday , June 20 to Thursday June 29 . This will be our holidays trip .  My recent break on Xanga was not for holidays but for other reasons . So I will be here on Xanga until the 19th of June

Provence , owns many Roman ruins  , has a strong personality with its own language and also a the sweet way  of life . But it is located to 1000 km from Amiens . I don’ t know if my car will be a flying one like the horse . I would like !

  • Great picture!!  tooo funny !! Relay for Life is a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society.  It is based on walking around a track.  i was part of a team with a captain.  every team member is responsible for raising a minimum of $100.  it cost me $10 to be on the team and i sold candy bars and relay bracelets that say 'hope' on them.  i also made hands and feet cut out cookies to sell at our booth at the track all night.  the relay began on friday at 12 noon and went until saturday at 12noon.  there were 30 teams at our Relay.  these Relays happen all over America with 90% of the money staying in our local cancer society.  it was great fun.  i have had my father, my step father, three grandmothers, one grandfather, an aunt, and several close friends die of cancer.  i bought luminaries in memory of them.  at dark we light the luminaries while they read ALL the names of the people.  it is amazing to see all the track lite up with the candle luminaries.  oh, is France in the World cup?  we are behind right now ~  blessings, Michel.   Melinda

  • Your friend is very talanted indeed... And has quite a sense of humor.

  • wow
that is a great painting and i noticed how it didnt look like Napoleon in the face haha

  • I'm confused - is it Tuesday already ??? The painting is very clever, I can just imagine you galloping through the Alps. A few years ago there was a BBC TV series called " A Year In Provence " about an English family who lived there for a year. It seems to be a lovely place to relax and enjoy the change of scenery. I'm sure you will take many photos to show us just how nice it is. I hope that every thing is OK with you now so you can blog more often. BTW Alice ( First Communion ) is my greatgrandaughterand Julie's grandaughter as Louise is Julie - oh ! and John's too daughter Marie PS very hot and humid here !

  • So, Michel, you take on the role of "Emperor Michel"!  How does it feel to "rule the world"?  At first, I thought maybe it was one of those cut-outs that they do fairs or festivals, but your friend composed it all.  Very clever!

Enjoy your holiday break.  - Rachel

  • That is so great!  Maybe, Napoleon would have lived longer if he had your great smile!

  • What a great painting with Michel the Great on his horse . I hope Janine and you have a wonderful time in Provence I have seen many TV shows about the area. John and I are off to Ireland on the 26th June. Thomas is going to Paris with his school on Thursday , he will go to mass in Notre Dame and go to Disneyland as well.

  • That's so awesome!

  • sorry about the site!!!

  • Hee hee, your friend has a great sense of humour. And you... you look great as Napoleon Bonaparte!

  • Your friend is talented and funny. I can't wait to see what you capture in Provence. You're point of view is always delightful.

  • LOL on the picture, Michel Bonaparte, indeed! Viva la Provence!

  • this painting suits you michel!!!!!  Have a great vacation in Provence!  God bless you and Janine!

  • Ah my friend, it is wonderful to see you here again.  The smaller ones are in Alaska again with their father for a few weeks, we find renewed romance in the alone time.  How wonderful life is!  Be blessed my friend!  Shanna

  • You look great on the horse!  Your face fits perfectly into the painting.

Yes, I am very excited about traveling to Munchen.  I think I will do many photo posts after I return, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to reach your standard of writing!  :)

  • How very clever!!!!

  • Amazing artistry and you looks wonderful on that horse!!

Best wishes to you and Janine. Happy travels

  • how fun :)
i saw the real painting of this when i was at the getty museum in 2005 - spectacular
but this one is far more charming!

    provence :) ahhhh...
    enjoy, enjoy!

  • You always make me smile and this one is just wonderful. I hope you have it framed and hanging in your office. Your nobility shows in your writing and in your life Michel.

    Love,    Brenda

  • hahah have fun!!!

  • That's a wonderful portrait; your friend is talented indeed, Michel. I hope you have a wonderful vacation and that you will bring some photos back to us. We will be going to Amiens when we go to Paris because we didn't have enough time to go see the cathedral there last summer. I can't wait!

  • What a great portrait!!  It did make me smile.  Sending good wishes to you and Janine for a safe and happy trip.  I am looking forward to the pictures and stories you will share.    (((hugs))) and smiles, ~char

  • The painting is very cute, you have a very clever friend.  Your up coming vacations sounds nice, will give you time to relax and take pic's for us to enjoy    Shirley

  • Ahhh   that Michel,

I knew him way back then,

    Before he got a horse,

    Or ten,

He is great, you can tell.

  • When I saw the picture I said, "Neigh. Neigh."  I spotted your face right away.  No wonder the horse looks as if you're about to ride off a cliff.  Welcome back, if only for a short while before your vacation.  Have a great time.  Your return from Provence is awaited with glee.

  • Have a wonderful holiday Michel and enjoy some relaxation. When we visited France some 22 years ago we did not see Provence. On our trip that we are planning for 2008 we plan to stay in Provence. Thanks for visiting and wishing Laura well. We had a lovely day for her 21st birthday.

  • Ohhh this is so clever, with your face included in this painting! What a great idea, and don't you look handsome on the horse, Michel. I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday, but I know you wont be leaving until the 20th.

  • This is a wonderful gift Michel, Judi

  • No, don't worry about asking...the majority of my "readers" are also graduate students and so well-versed in grant applications.  My research group does very expensive stuff, so we need ridiculously large amounts of money to function.  We had applied two times already to a very big government agency, and we finally got acceptance.  So the 1,5 million is spread over 5 years...such a big sum but really, science is soooo expensive!

  • What a wonderful idea for a gift for someone who needs nothing.

  • I recognized you immediately...You are much better looking than Napolean!  And you seem to be enjoying yourself much more than he did.  What a great idea.

    Thanks for sharing with us.

    Francoise

  • Oh my, you wear hats well!

  • Enjoy Provence Michel  ---like I have done so many times   Ron

  • RYC: No, not next month, hopefully by August. We had to change our vacation plans because of the construction going on at our house and because of my youngest son's gmnastics schedule. Sadly, no, I do not speak French, but when we were there last year we were delighted to find that it did not matter at all with regard to the enjoyment of our trip. Everyone graciously spoke English and EVERYONE was nice and very helpful. It was a wonderful part of our European adventure and now we look forward to focusing our trip on France so we can see more of what interested us most.

  • hi nice picture,as they say a picture speaks a thousand words!! love the morphed face as well!

    best wishes,

    Ashar

  • i LOVE that painting! that is the best!

    Hope you guys are well!

    Liv

  • Whwn I look at that painting it reminds me my dad because of the color red, he loved everything RED.  He tried to get mom to paint all the walls in the house RED...thank goodness she said no!  The desk I have finished is one I bought from the junk store it's called a secretary desk though I don't see it but I like it so I stripped off the PURPLE paint the owners painted on it then sanded it then stained it and finally I waxed it with a clear coat so it is now finished thank goodness.  Refinishing furniture is a big job!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Shirley

    Ciao.

  • Yes, the mountains are definitely a good idea for a vacation.

The altered painting that you have shown has been wonderfully done.

I hope that you have a wonderful vacation with your family in Provence.

    Love,

    Yvonne

  • Thanks for your comment, Michel! I am so happy that you are back on Xanga. I have been catching up with your latest posts, and, like always, found them to be utterly delightful, especially the one with the train, attic, toys, and your precious grandchildren. I really laughed when I realized that the face wasn't of Napoleon but YOU!

    In friendship and peace! Caroline

  • Michel,  You are so kind, I am glad that you enjoyed the poem.

  • That's really cool! I never would have thought you used to be a dictator!

  • Hilarious....good for your friend to think of you as nobility (The smile on your face is as priceless as the real painting)

  • haha..even with my old eyes i catch you riding the stallion!

  • LOL I love the portrait michel!!! Well down You have a wonderful sense of humour.

  • Just Delightful! I have done pictures similar for my children, but none recently. Maybe I should make one! And post it! Have everyone make one and post them. Now that would be fun...

  • Hahaha, the painting is perfect. You should hang it on your wall! I love it.

  • This is a very realistic photo, and you look so grande upon the horse.

  • When I saw the painting with your face i thought you would go to Corsica or perhaps to Elba.

The provence must be wonderful, the langauge too is closer to Italian.

It must have been very poor but now I think is much richer and nicer. The smells and the light must be overwhelming.

I wish you a very happy time there and I will be curious about your experience there.

    Amitié

    Carlo

    .

  • hahaha.. love the pic! i didn't know you were napolean material. ;)

sorry but the other time you asked me to read 'social life'. what is that?

  • Do enjoy your holiday. I noticed the glasses right away and was going to ask about them. Didn't realize it was your picture though.

  • Just wanted to drop in and visit your site to thank you for the Birthday greetings. I'm symbolreaders DLS and am new to Xanga, so am learning as I go.

  • What a talented and witty man your friend is. Isn't it wonderful to have friends like that.

These are the things I bought. You use the bleach pen to get spots on your white clothes. You eat Clif bars. They are good for you.

  • Hi Michel:  Sanding....I used an electric sander which you apply sand paper to the bottom it clamps in place, then you just run it over the wood and it sands it down also removes most paint.  They have a small mouse sander that fits into your hand it's very handy for small area's but I didn't have one.  I did very little sanding by hand because so much was required.  Shirley

  • What a treasure to have such a friend.  Have a vacation to remember. God Bless.

  • What a great idea for the man who has everything. Have a wonderful time in Provence. Someday I hope to travel there as well. But you will take care of your garden while you are gone?

  • You are not a fan of Freud? :)

Godspeed!
    DANS l'amitié
Allison (I hope my French makes sense)

  • Michel,

It is tres terrible that pharmacists may be able to make moral judgments on us.  Our freedoms are being taken from us every day by the idiot Bush and the fundamental Christians.  Abortion may even be outlawed.  I believe in choice!

    Laurie

  • The bridge I crossed was in British Columbia, Canada. It was close to Vancouver. We went to Seattle, Washington but spent a few days in Canada.  :)    It's good to be back. I missed "talking" with you.       Blessings, kc

thank you very much for your kind words.  i'm definitely looking forward to the new shift.

  • Thank you for caring Michel, Judi

  • Hello Michel, I hope you are well and that your break from Xanga was not for medical reasons (or legal ones ). Enjoy your vacation. Will you see any of the Tour next month?

  • Haha.. your friend is really good huh?
I've heard how much the soldiers 'worship' their Emperor Napoleon, that even on the battle field their last words were "Long live the Emperor!"

  • Such talent and fun!

  • Got such a laugh out of the picture!!  You look very handsome and brave up there on that horse!!!

Have a wonderful vacation.  Be sure to take lots of pictures for all of us to enjoy.  Most of us will never get to France, so we must enjoy the scenery through you!

  • What a wonderful idea your friend has to put you into famous pictures!  It is charming

  • That's a great horse.

  • Thanks for your kind comments.

  • ryc: thank you for your well wishes!  it really means a lot.  here's to an awesome vacation!!

  • Happy Father's Day, Michel.

  • haha i know that painting...

to your question about my entry about guns on gun racks..yes, one can have guns in the US, but it's typically not politically correct nowadays here (although obviously many have guns)..and when they do have gun racks, they usually have a lock on them when they're displayed and they're not so out in the open..

  • Thank you Michel for your concern, I am fine, Sebastiano is my priority these days. Michel you look so handsome on that horse, is that how you won Janine's heart??

    RITA

  • wow! you ride that horse very well!

    Ciao,
    Annalisa

  • Look at you, LOL!  Your glasses look more modern that Bonaparte.  I have seen this picture many times.  I will always think of you now when I see it.  About the donut on my blog: no, I don't think it sounds much like me. I sometimes don't like change, as it suggests, but don't think I have a rough exterior (maybe occasionally, my children think so. )

  • The picture is fabulous, Michel, and very humourous! Your friend does indeed have a special talent!

I hope all is well for your trip this week. Take care of yourself and we'll see you when you return again.

    Cheers!

  • This is a terrific portrait. Your smile is so warm and wonderful in it! I hope and pray that you have a peaceful, fun filled holiday with your lovely wife. Take care my friend and God Bless You.

    Love,
    Debbie

  • Is Father's Day international, or does France have a day to celebrate all fathers?!

  • Oh, Michel, that is so funny!!!! I would love to have that done!!!

So you are in Provence? I have read the Peter Maal books about it and think I would like to go there someday. Have a wonderful holiday and bring us pictures!

  • Michel...you fit the picture very well!  :O)

I was watching the news (France) and notice that the Klimt picture(Adele Bloch-Bauer I) sold for $135 million to an Estee Lauder billionaire and former ambassador to Austria for the New Gallery in Manhattan .  It is interesting the story of the painting and the previous owner, Adele, and how her husband had to flee due to the Nazis...so much history behind Klimt's paitings that are not even 100 years old yet!

I also saw in the news of trees that shed this white cotton looking seeds that look like snow!  I am sure has become a nuisance to others but it did look very pretty!  :O)

We are so glad to see you back!!!  I will have some pictures soon to send to you and Janine.

    My love to all!

    xoxo Cat

  • I loved what you had to say about Freud. :D

  • Oh I love it* and who knows..you are a Military Man yes? This is just too wonderful..:::Big Smiles:::: ((Wings))

  • You look grand on the horse my friend!Fancy

  • Hi Michel:  Stopping by to say hello.  Hope all is well with you and your family.  Very nice day here, very warm so it will be a hot/humid day.  Shirley

  • I am missing you! I hope you are having a lovely time. I got a learning video that is to teach me how to paint "The Colors of Provence". It was timely with your visit!

  • Bonjour M. Fauquet. Êtes-vous retourné de vos voyages ?Allison

  • I hope you are enjoying your weekend, do you have plans?!

    Laurie

  • Ahh Michel ...so cool {*_*}

I love reading your french version first and trying to interpret what you are saying.  It's often close in translation and I almost get the gist.  I feel I am reading music that reminds me of Charles Aznevour.

    Je suis Puck - the mischievous spirit {*_*}

  • How are you? Judi

  • I really enjoyed looking at this...it is entertaining...

  • How are you I have missed your posts. Judi

  • nice picture michel.. hehe..

    I hope youre doing well.

  • That image is too cute! I will certainly attend the Sagra del Galleto and del Pollo alla Marengo in Piemonte this September. I so LOVE Napoleon's famous chicken dish!

Michel, I am looking forward to a few days in your area in August! My husband and I will be staying near Soissons...if you read this comment, please give me the name of a few places that I should visit. Naturally, I want to go to Epernay just for the champagne.

  • how are you doing?

  • :)

My teacher's always talking about La Provence.

  • I have a repost of an erotic story, come and read!

  • hahah!
i have seen David's masterpiece before!

  • Salut Michel!

Comme tu me manques!!!  Ca-va?

    Amities,

    Clementine

  • How is your Summer going? Judi

  • Looking forward to your eventual return to Xangri-la.

Congratulations to France, by the way.  (This is written prior to the World Cup final vs. Italy, so the sport I'm writing about is tennis.)

Not since Suzanne Lenglen's championship year of 1925 has a Frenchwoman won the Ladies' single title at Wimbledon.  Congratulations to Amelie Mauresmo!  She is a great champion.

  • Michel, That's a hilarious picture!  He did such a great job making it look like all one image.

I'm sorry for having been absent for so long.  School, family and art have consumed my life over the past 6 months.

    I hope you're doing well.

    Hugs,

    Lisa

  • Michel! You look Marvelous! I like playing with photos and will try some creative insertions with my photoshop programs soon.

  • Hi Michel!

I just realised I forgot to answer your question. I'm currently an account executive, although I'm desperately trying to return to my previous work of IT consultant, albeit in a role more related to the business part of IT rather than the actual coding...

I hope you have enjoyed your vacation! Looking forward to more of your beautiful photos and your descriptions of your experience. :)

    Caroline
