Menus plaisirs
Tiny Pleasures
Little things are sufficient sometimes to bring more fun in life
Sonnant la cloche . Ringing the bell . Photo by Thierry Fauquet May 2006
Petit plaisir !
So , last Sunday after the first communion of my grand son Nicolas I had the opportunity for ringing the bell of the small church in pulling the rope . Little thing that I had never done . When I was a child I always was amazed by this man who set in motion the heavy bell of the church of my birthplace ( Marquise nearby Boulogne sur Mer , Northern France ) . When the bell was in full peal the man was lifted up of 1 or 2 meters then went down . It was spectacular . Nowadays this bell is set in motion by an electrical mechanism .I confess I was happy to pull the rope last Sunday !!! Little pleasure !
a chat in the garden . On bavarde dans le jardin . Photo Janine Fauquet May 2006
And what is more pleasant when you are covered of sweat and exhausted to have dug the ground to make a pause to have a chat with your garden neighbour . Obviously Janine didn' t miss the occasion to take furtively a shot of this " event " . Little thing that brings to you some wellbeing .!
La mode de Manon . Manon ' s fashion Photo Michell Fauquet April 2006
Si
And in Last April we have Manon and her brother Antoine at home . She was playing with old Christmas decorations . Suddenly I heard her shouting at me " Grandpa look at me " ! . She was ornated with red flowers . She had a way to wear them that made me think of a new fashion called " Manon ' s fashion " . I smiled with pleasure and asked her to keep those flowers for a picture . Happy time , no ? Yes !
As you see those 3 examples are really tiny pleasures . But they give some joy to life even when we cross hard situations . They are like salt that gives more taste to life . But we have to be aware of them .

And reading this and seeing your photos brought some joy to me today. Thank you.
I've always fancied bellringing but I'm scared I end up in the rafters of the church.
Yes, there are many small pleasures. I love taking pictures but my daughters, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren do not want me to put them on the internet. My friends are the same way I guess they are afraid what will happen if they are put up for the world to see so I just put me. I envy that you can put your family here to share with us. Judi
Your photographs and your written words ALWAYS bring joy to me!
How exciting for you that you got to ring the bell.
And you have a grandson named Nicolas... my SON's name is Nicholas...but he prefers to be called NICK!! Happy Tuesday to you, my beloved friend!
Hurrah - it's Tuesday
Time for my weekly dose of Michel ! The small things in life are the ones we remember all our lives. When I talk about the " olden days " with my children it is always the " silly " little things they recall. We have a First Communion soon as Alice makes hers in June - another milestone in her life.
Marie
I have heard it said that if there is something you have wanted to do in your life time at some point you will do it....and so you have my friend. I'm not up to date on a communion but I know it's a very important event. My mother loved to dig in the dirt to plant anything and watch it grow, since I no longer have a yard and I love home grown tomatoes I am going to plant some patio tomatoes and out them on the roof outside my spare bedroom, that should count as digging in the dirt
okay but close enough. Your granddaugter is very pretty especially with the flowers.
Shirley
it's good to remember the little things...I tend to forget them...thanks Michel ..for reminding me....
I love those pictures and you look so happy ringing that bell!
God bless you and your family((HUGS))
Your pictures and stories always bring me joy!
Have a blessed day!
Michele
You are so right, we have to look for these little pleasures. And, sometimes we are too busy to see and enjoy them as you have. Thanks for sharing these.
The joy on your face Michel when you were bell ring was wonderful to see
Also the photo of you talking to your neighbour as well.
It was a great win for Liverpool this weekend but unfortuatly since I worked all weekend and then had to go to a evening meeting I have not been able to do a blog this week
how true it is! the smallest pleasures are perhaps also our biggest treasures
xo
You live beautifully in the moment.
You're an inspiration.
sometimes the smallest pleasures are the more cherrishable ones
I enjoy your Xanga very much.
Awwww. I love your family. Can I go back in time and have you adopt me?
I love life's little pleasures, without them there would truely be no meaning!
Blessings to you and your family today, Michel!
<3,
Aubrey
Ahhh! And to see the joy in your face tells it all! I am happy for you, my friend! Many good wishes for your grandson AND many good smiles like that one for you all through the year! Simple pleasures. Yes, we need to be constantly aware of them. More precious as the days change around us. Have a great week, Michel! - Rachel
Maybe the first one? Or the second? No, better the third, because of the grandaughter... What a gift of the Lord.
Ciao,
Annalisa
Michel, you really do write about the most beautiful things!
Lovely pictures here. You have the knack of looking at life's everyday things we don't always notice or appreciate for what they are. Really wonderful post!
I told Glenn about your comment on the nurse's uniform and he laughed!
I didn't want to buy the uniform, just photograph it for my blog as something amusing.
Thanks for what you said though!!

I just truly love to look at your pictures...always so full of love, of life and leave me longing for more. We have a tradition at our small country church to ring the Sunday School bell every week. My children have recently revived this tradition. It is so precious to see these small children line up to have their turn at the bell. I just love this!!!
Have a beautiful week, sweet friend.
Karen
you're absolutely right! thank you for the reminder!
sir, reading your post makes me really happy.
I know about the tiny pleasures. I have them that I am thankful for. The first communion of a grandchild is cause for ringing a church bell!
That would be a joyous occasion.
your site is precious... brings me hope.
I think the tiny pleasures are really our biggest pleasures. The big, important occasions are wonderful, but are usually once-in-a-lifetime things. The tiny pleasures we get to enjoy over and over, ------ they are what make life worth living.
Actually, I think ringing the church bell would rate a bit higher than a "tiny" pleasure. Most of ours are all automated, controlled by computers. What a shame.
Manon certainly does have a sense of style! Who does she take after???
Michel, you and Janine are so wise....after all it is the tiny pleasures that make the whole of our world. I do not try to dwell on the things that make me unhappy! I do not have the answers to the world problems so I try to make my small world a better place as do you both
Michel...you are right...we have to stop and take the time to notice those tiny pleasures that we would otherwise pass by in our busyness. Your photos say so much! I do love when you post and always look forward to them!
Love to you and Janine!
xoxo Cat
That last picture is just heavenly.
She is a little angel!
D'accord!

It's always a joy reading your posts. I love how you make simple, mundane things look so beautiful. It teaches me to step back, look around me, and appreciate all that God has given us.
I too have rung the bell....and the most enchanted moment was after I walked down the isle and the church organ stopped and our bells rung out all over town their happy sounds fueled by my brother and young nephew for a magical moment before we said our vows and again as we left the church. Today our moment was watching the kittens play so frolickly in the grass having imaginery adventures of their own. Much love, Shanna
that first photo of you is so HANDSOME. the rest of your weblog is a warm smile from your heart to ours. thank you!
bellringing looks like fun!!
take care and enjoy
You are so handsome!! And you have such a beautiful family!!
Your garden is beautiful as always. What kinds of things are you growing this year?
Hope you and Janine are well.
I posted new pictures of my pony today.
What wonderful photos...Again. You do have a way of capturing the "little pleasures, especially those that children give to the world.
The most joyous thing of all is the birth of a newborn...We rejoice in the birth of our newborn GREAT grandson...
You haven't been around for awhile to visit my site....I miss your comments. I hope that I haven't said anything to offend you.
votre amie,
Francoise.
Tiny pleasures are the biggest ones.
I saw children hier too having the first communion, must be the time to do it.
I was looking for the chat in the garden but I di not see a "Cat"
a silly word play.
The bells remind me of Freres Jacques...Sonne la mattine. In Italy we call it San Martino Campanaro.
I think Jeanine makes the photos to control you, never know with such nice neighbours...
Amitié
Carlo
I think we have to perceive the world as a child with wonder and incorporate it in all we do. Judi
Thank you very much, Michel.
What a pleasure to ring the bell! Granddaughter's fashion is adorable. And yes the little pleasures are the best.
I love small things that give me a smile or good feeling. I think they are the best of times, easy to remember to enjoy over and over. It doesn't take a lot of make me smile. I smile each time I hear my windchimes sing.
Have a super week,
It is indeed the simple pleasures in life that make life worth living. You like you are having a lot of fun ringing that bell, Michel!
Manon looks very sweet and pretty! I hope these little pleasures continue for you!
Have a wonderful day, mon ami!
Three beautiful pictures; three precious memories. I LOVE the big smile you have as you ring the bell.
thanks for the reminder to enjoy the simple things, Michel.
great photos

Bonjour Michal,

Thankyou for sharing your little pleasures with us , as your little pleasures become our little pleasures as well. You are blessed, dear brother, with an uncommon ability in this world to stop us in out tracks and have us look around to count our many little blessings as well ~ thankyou Michal! Blessings to your beautiful family.

the photo of Manon is beautiful! and yes, adam is a liar

These small pleasures are true treasures for the heart. Today, I too was working outdoors. Beth and I were planting flower bulbs and pulling weeds. Then I used the hose to water the pansies, as they looked wilted. It was a lovely day, just warm enough to be quite comfortable. I stood under the maple tree, in the shade, and allowed the water to gently shower on the flowers. It seemed as if the pansies were lifting their faces to take a drink. I was very tired by then, but I thoroughly enjoyed the moment.
If I were to teach it would be all the regular school subjects (English, Math, Science, History, Penmanship, Literature, Spelling, and Christian doctrine) to boys and girls ages 10 to 12. Unfortunately most American schools do not teach a second language until the children are a little older. I am sure they would learn another language much more quickly if they were to start when the children were young. It is no wonder that so many Americans are only fluent in English. My French needs much work before I could be considered fluent, and I know only a little Danish. As for the Spanish I studied in college - I have forgotten most of it.
I don't remember much from high school French except that I loved the way it sounded when the teacher spoke. It was lyrical. Oui?
Those are some of the most satisfying moments in life!

http://pinoulivi.com/verita/vecchioscarpone1.htm
Ciao, a bientôt.
It's a great blessing to have eyes and heart to appreciate these! No everyone is willing either. May God keep your heart like a child's. =)
In answer to your question about our new great grandchild...Yes, it is our first. Your beautiful grandchildren are still young so I guess you have to wait for the "greats"
Yes, I wrote every day before mother's day since I wanted to get her story in before Sunday. I know it was a great deal to read and I admire the patience of anyone taking the time to read it. I know that you are very busy.
Comment dit on au francaise, " Thank you so much for your kind comments."?
votre amie,
Francoise
ryc, the rose I have is a 'Hybrid Tea Rose' and it has a beautiful aroma. Very sweet, like perfume.
Its nice that you appreciate all of the "tiny" pleasures in your life. I wish that everyone could do that but we often forget to stop and enjoy.
Me too, as Carlo does, I think that Janine is taking pictures to control you! Be aware with neighbours... ;o)))
(but contrarily to what Carlo said, Frère Jacques in italian is called "Fra Martino" and not "San Martino" Fra martino / campanaro / suoni tu, etc.).
Ciao again, I'll send you by mail the french translation of Vecchio scarpone.
Très sympathiques images !
))
Me demande cependant si Janine a pu te photographier à 2m du sol ... ??? (rires)
How wonderful to think as a child how grand it would be to ring the bell. Look how kind life is for you got the honor. God Bless
RYC: I'm good thank you
And yes I love Liverpool. your granddaughter is very cute
hi micahel,
yes, surprising, little things matter so much . i want to see you swing 1-2 meters off the ground
have a good weekend.
You have the most delightful tiny pleasures!! Each time I visit your site with your lush photos of French Life ..I feel I was somehow born into the wrong place! I have such affinity for your culture and you highlight it so well. You dear friend are one of my tiny pleasures! To visit here and share your home and family...little granddaughters ( Grand Pere) all adorned in red flowers! She shines like the sun..Your garden is so green! What things are you growing in there?
It looks as if it will be next year at best before I can visit my friend. Have you been to Carhaix? The Abbey Tower / Archive Condo/ from Roman Times. 13th Century Beams he found in restoration*..The Libary and Ancient Abbey oh they call enlessly to me...alas..photos may have to do.
Thank you for sharing your tiny pleasures with us all* ((Wings))
Thanks for your kind comments about the birth of my grandson. Your grandchildren are beautiful!
You kow Michel, these are three of the best things in life.
Ringing the bell praises God. Our neighbors, we can share stories and grow as friends. You area a good neighbor, and of course our children and grandchildren are truely the most amazing. They are the future of this world.
I love these photos.
~ Rosemary
I hope you have a wonderful Friday and a lovely week~end with a lot of sunshine and pleasant time with your family.

Here is too small joys in life. Thank you that you came and walked with me down my garden path. Judi
Beautiful.
It's good to come back and read your blog Michel. There's always something that makes me smile.
I have a collection of bells in my home. In fact my keychain is a small cowbell. Helps me find my keys in my bag.
hope you're having a wonderful summer.
love,
anu
Sweet, Michel. I am impressed that you work in your garden with a tie on. here in the states, i think that is unheard of, for sure. Your grand daughter is a darlin'.
I think the joy written on the faces makes it more than a tiny pleasure. Great pictures as usual Michel.
Love, Brenda
tiny but pleasures indeed. trust you for holding on to them.
michel, you have a simple heart!
How appropriate. I think that your tiny pleasures match mine. Yet, I don't know where I can go to ring the bell.
Alright that half lived attempt just died, but i would like to thank you deeply for writing like you do, in a world like ours its good to have someone like you to remind one that there are still beautiful and simple things left in the world.
Hi Michel,
My mother has been in hospital on and off because of her back. She has, from what I understand, a crushed nerve. The poor darling has been in considerable pain for the last 13 weeks, and because of her age, (she is 82yo) has had a very bad time of it. She was sent home yesterday after another epesiotomy which gives relief for a while. The worst part for me is that she doesn't know the Lord and that worries me. Dad is completely and utterly against my faith and has been taught some pretty weird stuff through the Masonic Lodge. It's quite scary what they have done to him actually. They have a totally different concept of who God is, though because of the secrecy that surrounds it Dad is prohibited to talk of it. Hmmmmmmmm, oh well, I just have to keep praying! Be blessed Michel!
Love from your Aussie mate,
Narelle (0=`~
sir, reading your post brightens up my day! may god bless you! comment back.
your great friend ~amber~
It is those simple pleasure surrounded by people who are important to us that make life have meaning. Thanks for reminding me.
RYC: It is a mutual learning experience: I teach them to drive and they teach me to scream silently !
The small things in life turn out to be the most important, life is made up of small hapinesses.
RITA.
it's life's tiny pleasures which make the biggest impact on our lives!! have a wonderful week, my dear friend!
Have a very happy sunday and may God's Love fill your heart.

RYC: No, Michel, I didn't take the picture of my son while visiting in March. He sent this to me the other day. He and the family had attended a wedding at the Kingdom Hall there in Tucson, AZ.
Merci Michel
Michel, you mentioned worries on my blog and I hope you're alright.
In answer to your question, the company owner managed to find people to financially fund his hydrogen powered car project. This is where the money came from to keep the business going for so long. The engineering workshop made tools and various other things for local businesses, so this also brought some money in. I think maybe in the end, the financial backing ran out.
Small pleasures are the ones that make the large difference in whether or not we have happy days and a happy life. I'm glad to see you enjoying your moments.
RYC Thank you, dear sir, for your encouragement. I will add that to my list of courage options!
I was going to tease you about the picture where you are holding the rope but was uncertain of the spelling. I wanted to say you DID NOT look like Quasimodo...I hope I spelled it correctly!
Thanks for coming by I liked your little joke, Judi
RYC. yes Franco looks more like me and Claudia more like her father. Our son Adriano who died 13 years ago, was the clone of his father, he was the middle son. I am happy when I am surrounded by my family and few freinds. Few but real.
RITA.
je desire etre un poet.
Hi Michel: Yes, I lost a sister in a car accident in October of 1996 it was really a hard time as she and I were very close lived next door to each other even worked for the same company she worked first shift and I came in on second shift. She took care of me when I was little and just kept looking out for me. I also lost another sister when her son set fire to their apartment in December 1998..I miss them both very much but I know their together two hearts sharing the life beyond this one.
Shirley
were just going to be friends!!!! i like it better that way so im happy!!!!! so whats new with you??????
love in friendship,
amber h.
Oh Michel, I'm blushing! **giggle**
Many people go their entire lives without learning that the little everyday things are what brings joy to Life. Those who never discover this are doomed to boredom & dissatisfaction. Part of what makes you a wonderful person is that you have a true understanding of what is important in Life & the ability to enjoy it.
Those tiny pleasures are what makes life worth living; thank you for sharing.
Lookin good, Michel. Lookin good
I'm comment #100 if I click "submit" fast that is! I'm watching the webcast of the Giro d'Italia, by the way! Getting all ready for the Tour de France in July.
Yes, the red hats -- I did get one from them but had forgotten my ham radio callsign badge at home so I wore the "ball cap" all weekend because it has my callsign on it, so my radio friends could recognize me. Since we mostly talk over the radio we recognize the callsign more than the face.
Some people had the girls autographing their red hats. I asked for more Icom hats for my children but I suppose they were running out of the red ones and wanted to reserve them for autographed versions -- so they gave me two black ones -- not suitable for autographing with a black marker! The one on the far right is my favorite, by the way -- and second from the left is my second favorite, a very nice smile.
I agree, that we need to "stop and smell the roses," or appreciate the small things in life.
Oh, my...I had no idea I had missed so many wonderful posts! My apologies...You have the happiest Xanga. I love to visit here and smile.
Oh Michel, really! coming to your page is like taking a deep breath in the fresh morning air on a spring day..BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
thank you,
lucy
Salut Michel!
Anne
What a pleasant experience! Thank you, Michel, for your visit!
what makes this day better is the memories, what made that day better was hope.. finding hope. I don't know that nature itself can give you hope, but it certainly can inspire it.
Good day to you my friend. I wish you well
-Renny
Aww . Merci...for your anniversary wishes. Yes, I will try to get one of us kissing after 52 years. Hmmmm!
hi seeing ur xanga makes me think of my grandpa i miss so~ much~
Pleasures are the times we share with others. And these make me smile with joy.
Bon Vayage, my friend--thank you for your words on my poetry.
I could not read all the comments...as you are so loved and give joy to so many. But with the latest post I see that you are taking a vacation from us. You will be missed and our love and friendship go with you.
Michel, I'm so glad you finally got to ring "your bell"! And you're right, it's the small pleasures in life that really make it special and put a smile on your face.
I'm going to miss you during your absence, but I understand. I just got back from an extended one myself. Sometimes we have to take a break from our virtual world to tend to the physical one!
Take care and I hope you still visit when you can.
Kaye
Amities a toi.
PS J'adore le mode de Manon! Ingenieux!
Thank You^^
Hi.
I need your vote for the art show.
It is a talent to appreciate the small things. I think it is one that you have developed well!
go to miszpinay.. no more dork.. im tired of people reading my blog..
Ah Michel!

You will be greatly missed, Judi

Your friend in Massachusetts
