La vieille maison dans la campagne .
Voici la maison où nous avons vécu pendant une semaine de vacances en Touraine du Sud .à la campagne .
Ce bâtiment a été construit à la fin du XVIII ème siècle . Au rez - de chaussée se trouvaient la laiterie et la boulangerie de la ferme . A l étage était le logement de l' ouvrier .
Cette maison était presque en ruine .et a failli disparaître il y a quelques années . Le fermier et ses enfants l ' ont complètement rénovée en respectant les caractères originaux . Nous aimions ces vielles pierres blanches taillées autour et au linteaux des portes , fenêtres et cheminées . Les murs sont construits en pierre avec un abondant mortier riche en sable . A l 'intérieur il fait assez sombre . Les murs épais protègent de la chaleur et du froid . Il doit faire bon l ' hiver auprès de la cheminée . On dormait bien dans la chambre sans papier peint .
Combien de génération d ' hommes cette vieille maison a vu vivre et travailler ? C ' est aussi grâce à ces hommes qu ' elle est encore debout après plus de deux cents ans .
The old house in the countryside .
Here is the house where we lived during a week on holidays in the south Touraine ' s countryside .( France ' s center )
This building has been built at the end of the XVIII th century . At the ground floor the dairy and the bakery of the next farm were . At the floor the worker ' s flat was .
This house was in decay and nearly felt some years ago . The farmer and his children renovated it completly being carefull to preserve the original features . We liked these old white ashlars around doors , windows and fireplace and their mantelpieces . The walls are built with stones and an abundant sandy mortar . Inside it is dark . The thick walls protect against the heat and the cold . How much it must be nice to be near the fireplace in winter . We were sleeping wery well in the bedroom without wallpaper .
How many generations of humans have been seen living and working by this old house ? But this last can thank these humans to be still stood up after more than two hundred years .

I always see stone buildings as a symbol of solidity and reverence... this house is no different...

It seems quite comfortable and comforting. The farmer redeemed it! It was made new, yet it was still much like the old. Like 2 Corinthians 5:17--renaissance!!

One day, I'm taking my packed bags, and going to a place far away....that has cottages to live in, and places to play.

I think the durability of things built hundreds of years ago is amazing. My house isn’t 10 years old and it’s already starting to fall apart.

Michel... I have 6 children. Lars, the boy who studies at the balletacademy is at home tomorrow too. But he's a quiet boy, and we always have a very relaxing time together.
Now that place looks great!! So romantic!
The older houses seem to have a soul.
Now...I need to figure out how to paint my wall like the one next to the fireplace.
That is wonderful.

oui je travaille cet été (comme chaque été d ailleurs)
dans une société qui fabrique des logiciels informatiques pour les banques et qui s appelle murex
sinon... en fait qobayate est le village de ma grand-mère décédée il y a 2 ans où mon père possède une maison que nous visitons très rarement. y retourner a fait resurgir en moi ds souvenirs de mon enfance quand je venais y passer mes vacances et soudain j ai réalisé combien le temps avait passé et j avais changé et compris des choses et les gens et mon enfance innocente était à jamais enfouie... de même que ma révolte adolescente qui n a plus eu lieu d'être à mes yeux à ce moment la puisque j avais décidé de m accepter telle que j 'étais et d accepter le monde...

wow. thanks for bringing back some precious memories. i think one of the highlights of my french trip was driving around some of these villages. my famille d'accueil (whom i love dearly and still keep in touch with) took me camping in the Loire Valley, knowing my passion for European (esp French!) history. I love reaching out my fingers to touch the stones laid there with the sweat, love and labour of those who lived so long ago. It's a connection with the past that could never be brought to life on the fresh pages of a printed history text, no matter how fascinatingly written, or how many 'original' quotes and pictures it contains.
It must have been a lovely holiday. THank you so much for sharing those pictures and your words. They really touched me in a profound way -- made me close my eyes and remember some things which have brought a smile back to my face, after a long and tiring day. This semester my studies are/continue to be fascinating (especially the new subjects for philosophy and history, same boring subjects for law because they are year-long subjects) but cause so much deep anxiety in my head AND heart.
I have missed being here! Thank you for always coming to my site and leaving your words...you always make a difference in some way and I am incredibly grateful for it. People like you make the world so much more beautiful to live in.

I like old houses. My sister, Chris, would like that house, as well, and I can quite imagine having a holiday there. It's interesting to think of the history that lives in it.
Wow, I really tested my high school French reading that...that'll teach me to try to read something in a foreign language before scrolling down to look for a translation! LOL
A little bit of XVIII century look and a little bit of modern look. This is just fabulous.
What a beautiful romantic place to stay. Makes me want to put on a long gown and stroll though those beautiful rooms. Only in my imagination, I am afraid.

What enchanting pictures!! You are indeed lucky to be in a place so full of history.
Ahhh, yes very old indeed, I like it very much, however my preference would be Victorian, I love brick. In response to your question about my second poem...its not written to anyone in particular, and yet a lot of people at once, mostly a mood swing type of thing...
