La vieille maison dans la campagne .

Voici la maison où nous avons vécu pendant une semaine de vacances en Touraine du Sud .à la campagne .

Ce bâtiment a été construit à la fin du XVIII ème siècle . Au rez - de chaussée se trouvaient  la laiterie et la boulangerie de la ferme . A l étage était le logement de l' ouvrier .

Cette maison était presque en ruine .et a failli disparaître il y a quelques années . Le fermier et ses enfants l ' ont complètement rénovée en respectant les caractères originaux . Nous aimions ces vielles pierres blanches taillées autour et au linteaux des portes , fenêtres et cheminées . Les murs sont construits en pierre avec un abondant mortier riche en sable . A l 'intérieur il fait assez sombre . Les murs épais protègent de la chaleur et du froid . Il doit faire bon l ' hiver auprès de la cheminée . On dormait bien dans la chambre sans papier peint .

Combien de génération d ' hommes cette vieille maison a vu vivre et travailler ? C ' est aussi grâce à ces hommes qu ' elle est encore debout après plus de deux cents ans .

The old house in the countryside .

Here is the house where we lived during a week on holidays in the south Touraine ' s countryside .( France ' s center )

This building has been built at the end of the XVIII th century . At the ground floor  the dairy and the bakery of the next farm were . At the floor the worker ' s flat was .

This house was in decay and nearly felt some years ago . The farmer and his children renovated it completly being carefull to preserve the original features . We liked these old white ashlars around doors , windows and fireplace and their mantelpieces . The walls are built with stones and an abundant sandy mortar . Inside it is dark . The thick walls protect against the heat and the cold . How much it must be nice to be near the fireplace in winter . We were sleeping wery well in the bedroom without wallpaper .

How many generations of humans have been seen living and working by this old house ? But this last can thank these humans to be still stood up after more than two hundred years .

Le château - fort d ' Angles sur Anglin .

Ne sont - elles pas impressionnantes ces ruines du château - fort d ' Angles sur Anglin en Touraine encore debout depuis le Moyen - Age . Cet important château contrôlait la charmante vallée de la rivière Anglin ( 2^ème photo ci - dessous ) .

Nous avons appris en visitant cet endroit que Angles - sur - Anglin est ainsi appelé parce que son territoire a été peuplé par une partie d ' une terrible tribu de Germanie , les Angles qui avaient envahi l' Angleterre au 5 ème siècle . Au début du 9^ème siècle l ' Empereur d ' occident Charlemagne pour apaiser les turbulents Angles restés en Germanie leur donna ce territoire situé en Touraine . D ' où le nom de la ville : Angle et de la rivière appelée d ' abord l ' Angla puis l ' Anglin . . Les habitants s 'appellent les Anglais !!  En Touraine de véritables anglais ont participé au peuplement . Etonnant , non ? Avant que Guillaume de Normandie envahisse l ' Angleterre ( 1066 ) . Je ne sais pas si cette chronique intéressera mes amis américains mais j ' avoue que j ' ai été très impressionné de retrouver des traces encre si nettes de l ' histoire du premier millénaire de l ' Europe . Je voulais vous faire partager cette émotion .

The Angles - sur - Anglin fortified castle
( in Touraine , France ) .

  Are not they impressing these ruins of the Angles - sur - Anglin ' s fortified castle still up from the Middle Age . This important fortress -castle protected the charming valley of the river Anglin ( second picture below ) .

We learned by the visit of this place that Angles - sur - Anglin is so called because its area has been inhabited by a part of a terrible German tribe, the Angles , which already had envaded England ( Angleterre in French ) in the fifth century . At the beginning of the 9^th century the occident Emperor Charlemagne to appease the agitated Angles remained in Germany gave to them this area situated in south Touraine ( France ) . This is why the little town is called Angles and the river , at first the Angla , the  Anglin . The inhabitants are nammed the Anglais ( English ) ! ! Yes ! In Touraine true English people or Angle people have participate to the peopling . Stunning , isn't it ? Before the  invasion of England by William of Normandy in 1066 .

I don't know if this blog will interest my american friends but I confess I have been very moved to find out  so neat traces of the history of the first millenary of Europa . I wanted to share this emotion with you .

The countryside in Touraine
     ( France center )

  Last week we were in South Touraine . We noticed a well balanced landscape parted in forest , fields and meadows . It was a real harmony .

  The picture above is taken from the hamlet where we lived . I was admiring this beautiful oak grove with also some chestnut trees . You can see one of them at the edge of the forest , bloomed yellow .

  Just at the side there was a wheatfield with at its middle …an old bloomed chestnut tree . Immediatly I was interested by its strange shape . Then I was wondering why it was at the middle of a field ! Obviously it should disturb the culture works . I asked the farmer owner of the field some explanations . He told me he always had known it . At the beginning it was probably at the border between two fields then one put together the two fields . The chestnut tree remained . Therefore it is standing now at the middle but the farmer wants to keep it there even if it disturbs . You can understand why , with such a respect for nature , the Touraine ' s landscape is remained so much beautiful .

  Quel charme troublant avons ressenti , ma femme et moi , en écoutant récemment dans un merveilleux jardin , de la musique Renaissance et baroque allant de Thomas Morlay à Haendel en passant par Purcell , Vivaldi et Telemann . Cette musique était jouée par un petit orchestre comportant un véritable orgue et aussi une épinette ou chantée par un petit chœur . Nous avons tressailli d 'un bonheur ineffable . L ' harmonie du jardin se mêlait avec les harmonies des sons . De tels plaisirs sont rares . Ils vous rajeunissent . Ils sont de tous les temps . Ce sont des plaisirs de l ' âme .

Concert in a garden .

  What a moving charm my wife and I felt recently in a wonderful garden listening to Renaissance and baroque music , from Thomas Morlay to Haendel via Purcell , Vivaldi and Telemann . This music was played by a small band including a real organ and also a spinet or sung by a small choir . We are thrilled with an ineffable happiness . The garden ' s harmony mixed with sounds ' harmony . Such pleasures are unfrequent . They make us rejuvenated . They are eternal . They are pleasure of the soul .
