        The little train .

The little steam train of Bay of the Somme is become a nice attraction for visitors . It runs around the wonderful estuary of the river Somme in Picardy ( north of France ) which passes in Amiens . In the past it was a regular line . The second picture taken in 1969 shows my eldest son Thierry who was four years old looking at the diesel locomotive of this train .

Now the old steam locomotive that draws its wagons makes me think of my wife and me who have behind us 6 children and 10 grand children ( 11 at the end of this month and 12 in november ) . But at the contrary of the old locomotive we are wondering if it is us who draw or if it is them who push us !
    in 1969 .

  • We had a train near where I grew up for a similar function. However, I do not think my trains carries as many wonderful memories as the one for you.

  • LOL!  It makes one wonder, doesn't it?!  A large family is a blessing!

  • Michel!  I love the train pictures!  I will send your site to my niece, Missy, so she can show her little boy, Nicholas.  HE LOVES trains!!!! :)

You are correct in your thinking "we are wondering if it is us who draw or if it is them who push us !"  Mayb it is a little of each at different times.

many hugs to you and Janine,

                                  Deb

  • I absolutely adore trains, but don't tell Carlo...next time he won't want to drive to Paris...ha ha.

  • How sad that the little train in the Suisse Normande near Clecy does not run any more.  The track is there but no trains!  I will go to the one you describe next time I am in the area.  Tom

  • It is lovely you have such a large family, I hope you're all close - thats the real beauty of it.
    All the best, Zara.

  • Great photos, Michel.  Here in New England, we had the Edaville Railroad which steamed its way through cranberry country out on Cape Cod.  Sadly, it's gone.  Nice blog.

  • Those are great pictures!! I love listening to trains -but we don't have too many around here... Thank you for posting this

  • one of my favorite sounds is a train in the distance...

  • Ah, this is beautiful.. the train reminding one of family. I really laughed when you wondered who was pushing who! If the tracks are clear, perhaps it doesn't matter?

J'aime tes photos!

  • Mes enfants me continuent certainement motivés à continuer à avancer.

  • Train rides are fun, nice you have one close

  • Hmmm...I am wondering if that train will be used to take the French soccer team back home from Korea/Japan?  Go Senegal!!!!

  • You are so clever and interesting.  How well you speak two languages.  I am impressed.

Trains are fascinating, and so are you.

  • Great pics, I like trains!!

  • I have always had a special place in my heart for trains.  My Papaw and my Dad both worked for the railroad for many many years!

  • I love trains. I would love to go to Europe one day and ride a scenic train through the country side. Wouldn't that be lovely? Take care!

  • Amiens must be a beautiful place!!!

  • I understand why the French say they " en train de prendre le train" .

    Thanks for the information.

One day perhaps we ll go and have a ride in the little train.

    Carlo

  • Nostalgic... I like the pictures Michel. I believe that in our country most steam trains are in the museum...

The last time I saw a real steam train was when we lived in Vlaardingen...with the celebration of  the 100 years Rotterdam - Hoek van Holland connection...

It must be an adventure to take a ride in this train

  • Oh, Michel, what a darlin' you are to be posting a story about trains. Back in 1968, we lived in Cameron, MO., here in the states. Our home was right by the railroad track. When the trains would pass, John would shout, " Shoo shoo shrain, Mama, shoo shoo shrain." I can't see a picture of a train or hear one that that wonderful memory doesn't come flooding into my mind. It truly is a treasure.

  • Love the pics , sorry we have not got to go to France this year. Also sorry about you going out of the World cup

  • I love trains so enjoyed your pictures. I treated a friend of mine to a train ride as a birthday gift. I do not know who enjoyed the ride more. Enjoy your day!

  • Both you and Carlo have a train thingy going this week. The question is, which one to ride first.

  • maybe it depends on which direction you're going!!  Sometimes you pull, sometimes they pull you...

That looks like a beautiful ride.

  • Fantastic post - reminds me of the little engine that could

  • That looks like fun. Some of my favorite memories of France and Europe are of riding trains; unfortunately, we don't have a good, inexpensive train system here in the states or Texas.

Texas really needs one: it's about the size of France, I forget which one is larger (I think it's France).

  • I have always liked trains! My son loved trains as a child. I took him to many places here in California know for its preservation of old steam engines. There is a town in Paris, California that is a museum and still has working trains. I have many videos of my son , Chris waving to everyone from the trains! I wish I could take a trip to ride on your train. What fun and the scenery must be wonderful!

  • Correction to the above: I was thinking French and spelled the town as Paris it should be Perris, California.

  • Great pictures, especially the one of your son! Congratulations on your upcoming new grandchildren--children are a delight, aren't they? Things like trains that become symbols of things to you, such as, in this case, your family, give you a nice feeling of routine and familiarity, don't they? Thank you for updating

  • Grew up close to railroad tracks.  Those are awesome pictures.

  • France looks so beautiful. I shall have to visit it and see it for myself. Was wondering will you be watching the Tour De France in July?

  • Ahhh... love your blog. Good practice for my currently unused french -Ben

  • You know, I have just returned from the South, where I took a wonderful train trip. I had never done that, and it had been one of my strongest dreams.. It was a nice trip, soon  I should post pictures.

As for this blog, it is lovely! Thank you so much for this!

  • wonderful blog!

  • Thanks for your comment on mine - shouldn't Guernsey be part of France?  All the street names are in French and many residents have French names.  Tom

  • Wow dix grandchildren!!  That's a huge number!  Great joy too I bet :) .  My grandma only has 5 grand children, but now she has 2 great-grandchildren as well.  I love reading your site bc it helps me remember my French.  When I am more confident, I will post comments in French too hehe

  • Michel, you should buy that locomotive. This way, it can be forever passed on to the future generation. One day, your great-great-great-great-great-great-grand-son can tell his son that his great-great-great-great-great-great-grand-pa has ridden in the same train as him, his grand-pa and his great-grand-pa.

  • Thank you for the Birthday wish..we too have grown children and many grandchildren.  We both come from other marriages and my husband is older...so he has 3 children, 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren..I have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. They are living all over our world so we have never seen them all at the same time!  That would be a wonder!

  • We still had steam trains running here till a few years ago... now I guess most of them are diesel...

    Take care

  • thanks for clearing that up, michel.

Oui ?

  • WeLLz JuS CrUsIn FrUM pAgE 2 PaGe And YeAH HeREz SuM pRoPz And PrEdY TiGhT uR PaGE...

  • Psssssssst, guess who?

I love the pictures of the trains - although they look at lot different to the ones we see today. The ones from yesteryear were probably a lot safer to ride!

And congratulations on your soon to be new arrivals. I hope we can see photos when the babies are born

  • Lovely story. Do they push, or do you pull? As the godly patriarch - you lead ... you pull ... you show ... and guide and love them right into the presence of the one who gives them life. What a blessing to have such a 'quiver full'!!!

  • ...what a difference in trains. Something, indeed, has Thierry's attention. Photos time-freeze memories. MuSe
