DEEP RIVER
" Deep river , my home is over Jordan ,
Deep river , Lord ,
I want to cross over into campgroun ' .
Oh , don' t you want to go to that gospel feast ,
That promised land where all is peace ?
Oh , deep river , Lord
I want to cross over into campgroun' "
" Land where all is peace " . Puisse - t - elle l ' être !
It ' s a very old spiritual american song that we sang at the pratice of our choir on last Tuesday . Usually for songs written in stranger language we have not concerns about the precise sense of the text .. The main is to have a nice polyphony with words and music . But , this time , I red attentively the words written in English . And I thought of Israël and Palestinians .
" Land where all is peace " . May it be !

Hate accomplishes nothing. If they could agree to coexist, peace would befall them. But, they are both so determined to eradicate the other, who knows if it will end. Thank you for sharing those lyrics.
Words to live by!
...ah yes, the land of peace.

ah.....sad......... yes, may it be so
peace peace but there is no peace.
I wish we could hear your choir sing it. I love the old spirituals.
Peace would be good.
Hi Michel, Here's a song I ran through the French Translator. It might be incorrect in places:
1. Jérusalem, mon maison heureuse, toujours cher à moi, quand mes travaux appellent-ils doivent-ils avoir une extrémité? Joies de Thy quand doit je voir?
I, too, would like to hear your choir!
About the herbs, I did not smoke them as a cigarette but had wrapped them in a small bundle and lit the end. I let it burn in an ashtray. You could dry yours and do the same!
Thanks for the comments!

I was talking to a good friend from Montreal, who is an Arabic last weekend, and I was saddened by how disturbed he is with things going on between Palestine and Israel.
Yes, I still read, write and listen in French. However, without much chance to practices living in Vancouver, I am afraid I am not where I used to be. Do you recommend any other French Xangans?
Oops...mes erreurs!!! It should read:
the radio this morning is telling me of reports of a massacre by the Israelis of 500 Palestinians. I hope its not true. May peace somehow rule.
Thank you for your comment on my diary. Today I've given some details of my two French holidays this year. Walking in the Suisse Normande in May, and Le Touquet in September. Tom
I am sad for the displaced people of Palestine..... sad for the killing that continues..... back and forth...... They all need peace and harmony..... why can't they choose to become one..... one with Love.
A perfect song for me to start my morning with...Peace.
SHALOME MY FRIEND
Sobering thought.
No, no, don't worry. I'm not troubled, I know which route I'm taking in life.
Thank you for your kind comment, Michel! yes, the song is nice... good lyrics... hmm.. May it be!
have a nice weekend!
Some one will have to sort it out , but how I do not know.
You have got me in the mood for coming over to France my boss is going Eurocamping , Whats Lillie like I have just been through it on the train
Peace. Yes, that is something that is seriously lacking in this word these days.
My heart goes out to Israel where every day seems like September 11th.
I pray for Justice, and I pray for Peace.
We Americans are having a difficult time with these isssues.
God help us all.
Deep River........
I've heard it sung by someone at the banks of the Mississippi. I don't know who it was anymore. He was a huge black man, with a deep voice that made your heart feel the deep.... and it echoed long after.
I've never heard it sung as beautiful as he did.
I'm glad you knew the meaning of the words when singing. And that you could attach meaning to it.
It's a song of deep longing. The existential kind.....
I wish I could hear you sing it............
Deep River......... staring over the river that perhaps never will be crossed....................
Talking about Israel and Palestine. Noah, the Israli female singer recorded a song with a Palestine singer, last saturday here in The Netherlands. It's a wellknown song, but it sounded great!
I think the world needs people who feel inspired to speak out and to inspire others to stand up.
The world has waited far too long for issues of hatred to be resolved by itself.
I don't think politics can solve it quickly.... but individual people can speak out!
Deep River............ thanks for giving that song to me....I will sing it all day!
Alas - how true. May peace finally come to that holiest of lands. May god soften their hearts & see their faults in such hopeless violence.
All the best,
ZaraD.
peace is a lovely thought
Yes, a great verse.
To cross the deep river of our hate, selfishness, egoism.
The land we looking for ,is in our hearts.
Peace we looking for, is in our hearts.
Carlo
aujourd'hui, c'est un beau jour.
So very beautiful and it sounds very familiar!
Thanks for sharing, I think it would be quite interesting to see a french interpretation being sung.
What a nice surprise, you stopping by my writing site. Merci Boucoup....
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" Isaiah 52:7 * Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure." Psalm 122:6 * Thank you for the old spiritual song! I hear it in my heart!
What a lot of comments. I have a feeling that there will never be peace for the jews didn't the bible say they would roam the earth for ever, seems though they have too. I wish all the Countries would give them a land of their own, instead of all the wrangling. Surely there is somewhere else they could call Israel. Isn't the amount they have sufficient, or do these people the Jews and Palestines hate each other so much they can't be near each other. I would have a job to have to come to a decision. Why does everyone demand that America solve the problem Is it because they are the richest?. Surely Not. Cheers Portia

Michel,
As is customary for you, many have been inspired to thought, deep thought, from your writings.
I must say Teri (Craktpot) shared my feelings already and gave verses from the Bible to read. I know that since I was small I have been told to pray for Jeruselem. Portia is correct I fear. According to the Bible, there will not be peace, at least not until after Christs' second coming, which the Jewish people don't even believe (since they don't recognize His first coming). This topic is one which stirs us so very much. I will try to not write too much. Maybe I will email you instead later.
You are a treasure my friend,
Deb
I think every corner of the world could do with those words...
I thank you for this blog it made me think a great deal. What a beautiful song. Jass
I hope there will be peace soon. And I certainly hope the rumblings about Syria do not come to anything!
