80th birthday,in climbing the stairs/the staircase

En montant l' escalier j'atteins 80 ans aujourd'hui!

In climbing the stairs I hit my 80th birthday, today!

English version below the pictures

L ' escalier arrivant au deuxième étage
The staircase reaching the second floor

   Allez Michel!

Shoveling and salting the snow !What an amount! : Photos Janine Fauquet March 12, 1933-2013
Déneigeant à la pelle et au sel  12 Mars 1933-2013 Photos Janine Fauquet.

But ,this morning , the meteo forced me to schovel then to salt

the back yard , the driveway and the sidewalk.I have rarely seen a such amount of snow in Amiens ( Picardy, France )
Did not ever tell you " the heart does not age ? "
 Go, Michel!

Afterwards I enjoyed a excellent meal prepared by my sweet Janine . But here I am unable to translate in English because a French meal is only said in French .Please read above . I can only say it was tasteful and the drinks started by a wine with bubbles from Jura (Arbois 1998) since PuisseguinSt Emilion and at last after coffee some drops of Cassis de Dijon.

L’ escalier

The staircase

English version below the picture

Escalier 2013

L ' escalier . The staircase.

Many people coming at our home are admiring, not me,  but the ...stairs ! . They say that this staircase has a particular style (it was built like the house around 1930)..It seems for them rather original and it  is made entirely with wood with a warm color. In addition you wonder how it stands from the ground floor up to the second floor since there is no pillar. A professional carpenter once came here and told us that it 'was a good job. It explained the mounting system but we have forgotten.....

My personal  office is at the first floor, so I'm often on the stairs. There are 20 steps from the ground floor up to the first floor and as much  to reach the second floor. There are times when I need to take my breath now and I am slower than before . It is a bit like the stair of life, step by step, year after year.

.

The stair case does look like as if they were made in the 1930's. That is so beautiful. :sunny:

Gorgeous staircase! Do you know what kind of wood was used?

In English-speaking countries usually the ground floor is called the first floor, and then you go upstairs to the second and third floors.

Oh, it is gorgeous! I do understand about the stairs getting harder and harder. I'm glad we can take the time to do them more slowly when we get older and don't have to hurry.

I love the look of that staircase, especially the red colour! I can understand that climbing the stairs takes more energy as we get older, a problem I also face (also I need to be in better shape).

Cheers, my friend!

@Roadkill_Spatula - Only if the home is anything other than a split-level home....Then it would be known as the basement, or ground floor, and the first floor would be on the second level, and called first floor....The third floor of a split-level would be called the second floor.....

The staircase is beautiful, Michel. I got your note and sent you one back, but thought I would come on into the library and check out Xanga. I have not left Xanga. Up until today, I would have said that things are very tight in our household and extra trips into town just don't happen anymore. However, today I have good news. One of my clients will be back on schedule soon. This will bring me back up to what I need as far as income goes. Also yesterday, Susannah and I were out looking for property to have a business. We found a little place for sale. It used to be an ice cream shop from the looks of it, but we could turn it into a tiny cafe/bakery with hardly any trouble at all. I am not going to say we are going to do it, but I would like to try. I do not know yet what they are asking for this property. I will look today while I am here at the library.
Please know, I would always tell you if I was going to be gone from Xanga. You have been a great friend to me. As I said in my note I have sent off a card to you. I just hope you get it in time.
Many (((Hugs))) In friendship, Rachel

What a beautiful home you have  your staircase reminds me of the one in Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. here is a link if you wish "http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_mysterious_staircase15.htm" :lookaround: it's very interesting that the wood at Loretto and yours are very similar and that some think the wood was imported from France, possibly even built in France and shipped :sunny: Yes, it is like the stairs of life, step by step, we must keep moving toward our destination, even though our breathing becomes labored :spinning: ilym :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat:

" Many people coming at our home are admiring, not me, but the ...stairs !

The upper portion does seem to be hanging there as if by magic! I also like the illusion of the staircase seeming to be on the level, and the doorway on the right askew. You have come to a time in your life to slow down, maybe it makes you appreciate the beauty of the wood even more?

That is some really nice woodwork! I am not a fan of taking the stairs but those look very nice. The color of the wood reminds me of the log cabin I stayed at in Maine, although it was not quite so red as this.
